That was so obvious until Peter himself seem to have missed the memo. In Acts, Peter never wanted to preach to the Gentiles, Cornelius was a special case and even for that, the Holy Spirit had to give him several visions in order to "convince" him to go to his house. And when Peter reached the house, he had no idea what he was doing there.
Acts 10:28
And he said to them, "You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean. 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”
How is Peter, a Jew, suppose to think the Gospel is for all, when it was unlawful for a Jew to even visit a Gentile?

WoW man! Reading from verse 44 to the end of the chapter? I see where this Cornelius,. and many that were with him? Started speaking in tongues, and weren't baptized until afterwards!
I reckon that was the God and Father of Jesus affirming to Peter, that even uncircumcised "gentiles", were now to be included.
Didn't mean to "throw a curve" into the discussion. Just wanted to make a note of something I hadn't noticed before.

it would be common to conclude this --
He bore our griefs and sorrows - but - we considered Him afflicted by God.
it seems to me this verse is saying that we believed He was receiving the wrath of God, but we were wrong.
He was taking our affliction & malady and carrying it on His own shoulder.
am i wrong?
Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows:
yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
(Isaiah 53:4)

Just like a Jew in the old covenant who laid his hand on an animal to pass the sin onto it before the Priest sacrificed it?
So did our our Creator, put his His hand upon Christ at the cross, when Jesus was "sacrificed." The "Last time onced and for all" sacrifice/s" for all sin (except one), past present, or future, for all who would believe in Jesus.

No. The gospel is that Jesus endured and overcame unjust suffering and death at the hands of wicked men.
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. Phil.3:10

Oh a meaty question.
Once a person gets to know the bible properly and God properly.
They realise the gospel messag started at Genesis and ends with the book
of revelation and dare I say it also continues after that as God continues to
deal with each one of us.
New Christians and those seeking God won’t understand the above and the entire
bible is too much to explain in one siting! So they get the bulls eye story. When
really it involves the entire dartboard.
The real gospel starts with the creation and how God wanted a people created in
His own image to have a relationship with Him. How Satan wasn’t having any of that
and so tempted Adam and Eve and subsequently they experienced eternal separation
from God and eternal death, also they no longer could enjoy that face to face fellowship. Sin
separated a holy God from unholy human beings.
The rest of the Old Testament is God’s story, History of how God brought about a
plan to reconcile mankind to Himself. How he strived to draw people to Himself,
how He kept a remnant of people willing to trust and obey. How people kept
letting God down again and again. But yet He still loved them with an everlasting
love nd never deviated from His plan.
Then in the New Testament God the Son put aside His Kingdom and Divine nature and
became a man, to die as a man and pay the price for mankind on the cross. His
resurrection showed the grave could not hold Him, it had no power over Him.
His resurrection, is our surety of our resurrection.
Then the rest of the New Testament is the setting up and developing of the
church of new created, washed in the blood of the lamb, born again people.
Then Revelatons, the promise of new life to come and wow all that symbolism.
A picture of Eternal life and where every tear will be wiped away, no death, no
disease, everlasting life with our Saviour God as it was always intended to be.
