Hands up - who thinks images of Jesus are actual historical photos of the real man?

Anyone?

That’s a beautiful picture. I agree that we don’t know what Jesus looked like.

One more I have no feeling of need for images such, but when I see someone who has a crucifix or image of Jesus, I feel fine with it. I see the person does not bow to it nor worship it, but it is simply a reminder constant of what and who they should always be.

Nothing wrong if the attitude is right, got it?:

Those verses were directed to Jews of Judaism, not Christians. There is nothing at all wrong with a picture of Jesus.
So, you do not believe the whole Bible? I agree, we are not to follow the Levitical laws. But a command from God that was followed by Jesus is certainly for us, too. Plus, even Jesus, Paul and the disciples talk about this, and it was identified as an issue in Acts 15, when the Jerusalem Council!

Paul the Apostle identifies the worship of created things (rather than the Creator) as the cause of the disintegration of sexual and social morality in his letter to the Romans 1:22-29

According to the book of Acts, Paul tells the Athenians that though their city is full of idols, the true God is represented by none of them and requires them to turn away from idols.
Acts 17:16

According to Acts of the Apostles, the apostles discussed the issue of what immediate behavioral changes would be required of gentiles who became followers of Jesus Christ at the Council of Jerusalem. They decided to instruct new converts: "You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality.

Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man's design and skill. In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him [Jesus] from the dead.

"Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man's design and skill. In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him [Jesus] from the dead."
— Acts 17:29-3 (NIV)

In Ephesus, Paul incurred the wrath of silversmiths (who were worried about losing income from decreased sales of idols) when people responded to his preaching and turned away from idol worship.[73] Paul taught that Christians should actively avoid participating in the worship of anything other than God. He considered it common sense that the worship of God and the worship of any other spiritual being are incompatible:

"Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry. I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say … Do I mean then that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord's jealousy? Are we stronger than he?"
— 1 Corinthians 10:14, 19-22 (NIV)

The New Testament also uses the term "idol" in reference to conceptual constructs, as in Paul's letter to the church in Colosse: "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed which is idolatry." This expands the scope of that which is included in idolatry to certain behaviors and priorities, which capture attention and regard at the expense of that which is owed to God. (See also Thou shalt have no other gods before me.) Paul warned the Galatians that those who live in idolatry "will not inherit the kingdom of God", and in the same passage associates witchcraft with idolatry. In his letter to the Philippians, he refers to those whose "god is their stomach". In several New Testament scriptures, including the Sermon on the Mount, the term idolatry is applied to the love of money. The apostle James rebukes those who focus on material things, using language similar to that of Old Testament prophets: "When you ask [in prayer], you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God" James 4:3-5

Paul commended the church in Thessalonica saying, "Your faith in God has become known everywhere … They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath." Paul identifies the worship of created things (rather than the Creator) as the cause of the disintegration of sexual and social morality in his letter to the Romans. The apostle Peter and the Book of Revelation also refer to the connection between the worship of other gods and sexual sins, whether metaphorically or literally. 1 Peter 4:3-4

The apostle John wrote simply, "Dear children, keep yourselves from idols". 1 John 5:20-21

That's lots of scriptures about no graven images in the NT. I personally don't have idols in my home. How about you?

why even draw attention it by posting fake pictures of Jesus.
I mean come on. Surely you got better things to do.

I think stick figures are fine. I cant draw that well anyway. Its probably easier to draw lambs or the fish symbol. If you want to have a picture.

Bonus, its like a secret code for Jesus, for people who cant read.

All our sins were future when Jesus died for them, He bore them, He was buried and they were buried with Him and when He arose He arose in newness of life.
Yes he did this for all whom would believe Him and trust that the Atonement He secured on the cross for the forgiveness of their sins..

He will not come and die again, you can't crucify Him afresh. If He did not deal with ALL our sins and finish the job once and for all then there is no further sacrifice, just a fearful expectation of judgement.
True, I agree..

Someone said "ah but we must repent" [and all sin is wilful] but read Hebrews again for it say it is impossible to repent again.
Let me ask you if i go around murdering people and declare and believe that all my murders where justified and therefore have no need for the Atonement of the LORD Jesus to cover them.. Am i sinning wilfully?

Question what is your defintion of wilfull sin?

But the scripture says Nobody who murders has eternal life in them, how would you be saved?

All sin is wilful, if someone nailed you in a coffin you couldn't do it.

But we have by faith been nailed to the cross with our Lord, we have died and been buried, and now we are risen up with Him to walk in newness of life. Glory.

It is when we get these facts firmly fixed in our mind that we simply stop doing sins ... there IS no other victory over sins.

When someone comes along and says you can lose your eternal life, your salvation, they are attacking the very truth by which we get the victory. The truth of our salvation by which we believed and in which we stand.

And pictures of Jesus hanging on the cross, which we usually see in homes and churches, as crucifixes and statues - any depiction of the Lord Jesus Christ, in any way, with whatever motive, INSULTS GOD. Furthermore, let me tell you: Our Lord Jesus is enthroned in heaven, having all power and authority! He is the Risen and Glorified Christ!
How dare any church have the temerity to still keep Him on the Cross???

So either you have been living a perfectly sinless life since the moment you became saved Or you are destined to the eternal lake of fire.. Hebrews 10: 26 makes it clear about wilful sin..

Hebrews 10: KJV
26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"

So after we have received the Gospel that saves and we sin ( you declare that all sin is wilful ) then we are no longer covered by the Atoning sacrifice of the LORD Jesus who was sacrificed as the Lamb of God on the cross to atone for our sins..

Now i do not believe for one moment that you are living a perfect life without sin.. So the teaching that you have given me ( That all sin is wilful ) condemns you to the eternal lake of fire..

It is when we get these facts firmly fixed in our mind that we simply stop doing sins ... there IS no other victory over sins.
The victory is over death not sins.. The Victory is over the penalty of the second death which is in the eternal lake of fire.. This preaching that one becomes a sinless human in their current flesh is simply false because no one ceases to sin bejond the moment of their salvation.. True sinlessness will only come after the resurrection when we will be transformed into perfect sinless beings..

I can only speak for myself

For what it is worth, this picture of Jesus seems to be the authentic one. it came about because a boy was taken up into heaven and saw Jesus. W|hen he came back to earth he painted a picture of him. At a later date, another boy was taken to heaven and saw Jesus. After he had come back donw to earth, he eventually met up with the original boy and saw his painting of Jesus. He was amazed and said "That is Jesus. I saw him."
I had problems with that boys story.. something changed and some other things were not written. This picture .. I remember watching them talk about all the money she made and how they were making her.. her own house... ok praise God. You can have one of these pictures for $199.

Also what about the countless other stories about seeing Jesus that didn't look like this guy. NOT saying its not true. There are more "stories" of Jesus longer hair then with this guy in this picture. So for me every picture or gold cross its not Jesus haha. Long hair short hair.. really? I don't think I will ever care to ask look wonder.. Knowing myself then Him infront of me in all His glory and power.. I will be face down.. THANKING Him forever!

Go and find some greenhorn to frighten, I been saved over 40 years.

If we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth is not if we sin wilfully after we have been saved.

Of course their remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, the salvation through the cross is a once for all time salvation Hebrews 10. 14 tells us
For by a single offering He has perfected for ALL TIME those who are sanctified.

What about when YOU sin? you are not going to say you have reached sinless perfection are you? why you flogging me when you are the same as me?

The deliberate sin spoken about is rejection of the cross, but we have not rejected the cross, we believe in the cross, the once for all time sacrifice for our sins. ALL our sins.

The only victory we can have is by knowing that Jesus paid it all.

You're not answering my challenge to your teachings at all..

It does not matter to me if you have been religous for 60 years or for 6 minutes if your teaching what is wrong then it is wrong..

Why ask me if i have achieve sinless perfection when it is clear i am preaching that no human being reaches sinless perfection this side of the grave..

You are the one that claimed all sin was wilful sin and i pointed out to you using scripture that if we sin willfully we are no longer covered by the Blood of the LORD Jesus.. Therefore your statement that all sin is wilful is wrong..

So now the deliberate sin is only rejection of the cross? So you shifted your teachings from one to another because your teaching is coming under scrutiny..

So what all the other sins we sin apart from ""rejecting the cross"" are now no longer sin.. Nope all sins are still sins and no body ceases to sin on this side of the grave..

Salvation is had by being completely forgiven all ones sins.. Sins of the past Sins of today and sins of tomorrow as long as we acknowledge all the Will of God as truth and good and trust that His Atonement has paid the penalty for our sins we shall be completely forgiven all our transgressions..

Wow some interesting views here. Had to scroll through 6 pages to find if anyone had posted the the Prince of Peace Painting by Akiana Kramarik. I am glad someone did. Akiana´s story is amazing as are her other paintings (many of which are of her visions of heaven, as a very young girl. Her parents were atheists, so she had no formal introduction to Christianity or Religion. She painted Prince of Peace when she was 8 yrs old, and it is not a simple 1 ft by 1 ft painting. The original is a huge museum size painting. Below is a link to it and the very interesting story of Akiana. Those not familiar, may find it all very interesting. The story (Book and Movie on netflix) "Heaven is for Real" is also something worth looking into if you are not familiar with it.

https://www.gospelherald.com/articl...l-painted-by-god-taught-young-girl-akiane.htm

Acts2:17
“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
(Akiana and Colton)
your old men will dream dreams. (I´m hoping)

I saw here in a video interview once explain how she felt the need to paint a portriat of Jesus, but she needed a model. Months went by, then a man knocked at her door, and said he understood from neighbor down the road that she was looking for someone to sit for a painting. He was doing some carpentry work for the neighbor, but would be willing to make some time for the sitting. So I don´t think Jesus has a problem with paintings of him

As for all these graven image comments, everyone is entitled to believe what want, but I think it is important to remember we are in the Age of Grace (not under OT laws), and it is what is in your heart and your relationship with the that matters. We have pictures of our family around our houses and on our desks at work, to remind us of them, and how much we love them. You are betrothed to Christ, you are a bride in waiting, you are his family already. He probably has a picture of you on his desk already.

For those who may still be concerned about graven images, you may wish to also consider doing something about that cross you may be wearing. (After all Cancel Culture appears to be Vogue these days, and with all the Binary references in the Bible, that book will be going the way of Dr Sesus, soon enough - please ignore my sick sense of humor).

Full disclosure: A copy of the Prince of Peace Painting hangs in the front entry way of our home, so all who enter can see it, and we can be sure they know the story of Jesus Christ. Maranatha

somewhere in here I also notice something posted about the requirement of asking for attonement for each and everone of your sins or you you were destine for the lake of Fire. Interesting, I don´t recall the theif on one of the other Crosses asking for attonenment. If I recall correctly, he simply asked that Jesus remember him when he was in Heaven. A simple act of Belief and Faith, from his heart. Why is it so hard for us to accept the simplity of the Good News. Why do we so often want to continue to carry that yoke around our necks. This is a carryover of the poor teachings of Catholicism.

Full disclosure: I am a reformed Catholic who still attends Mass. You don´t have to throw the Baby Jesus, out with the bath water, just the bath water.

As for being thrown in the Lake of Fire, here is something to think about or possibly a thread, what does it mean "to be thrown into the Outer Darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth¨, as opposed to "Being Caste into The lake of Fire". Please note that the reference to the wicked being driven or caste into darkness, is found multiple times in the new and old testament. I don´t believe darkness and fire can coexist. Maranatha
