I see that a little differently. It does say two but what does the "two represent" .One?

Satan the apposing (Did God really say?) spirit of all lies. As a false messenger he as a liar sends men that have bodies as false prophets. God removed his (serpent) ability to put his lies on the lips to the other beast of the field Ssssssssss (Did God really say?). Cut its legs off .

Satan is the father of all lies. Deceiving all the nations of the world. Not just the Jewish nation.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

If the false prophet is cast out then the lying spirit Legion) must flee . to show the power of the gospel . The power to turn false to true.

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. Mark 5: 8-13

Its one times that the baby (Legion) must be thrown out with the polluted water. and wash with the water of the word.

Sir, please remember that at some point afterwards, three evil spirits will proceed out of the MOUTHS of the false prophet, the anti christ and the dragon to go and gather the ¨great kings" for the battle....just as Revelation 16 states.

It would make more sense to say Roman Emperor and the Papacy.

It clearly mentions two, but what are the two? Are they two men? It does not say this. In fact these two are thrown alive into the lake of fire. For man he must die once and then face judgement. The evidence is that they are not two men. For men do not bypass the first death to be thrown alive into lake of fire.
So what then are the beast and false prophet? They are manifestations of Satan. Tyrannical Government (state) in connection with a corrupted christian Church (church). Also known as "church and state"

Ah, but here is my point.

You had the beast (Roman Empire) and False prophet (Roman Catholic Church), where the Roman Emperor appointed the Pope for some 400 years.
Then Roman Empire dwindled and was succeeded by the Holy Roman Empire. Now the Pope ordained the Emeror Charlemagne. As one government or beast fell it was replaced by another government or beast. The false prophet also morphed and evolved over time.

For example The Church of England split from the Roman Catholic Church but maintained its 1st beast (Monarchy) and 2nd Beast (Archbishop of canterbury).

But then the beast (!st beast) is not today. For the monarchy and Holy Roman Empire have been replaced by constitutional democracy and republics. There is now, today, a separaton of church and state.

Today the False Prophet remains, but the Beast is NOT.

Today the Beast is not. And the 2nd beast has now morphed into the Whore of Babylon.
The Whore of Babylon is not just the Roman Catholic Church, but also constitutes all the denominations that are in ecumenical communication and communion with the Roman Catholic Church

The Anglican Church has an "imperfect communion" with the Roman Catholic Church today.
They both fall under the umbrella of "Whore of Babylon".

For Chapter 17 "Whore of Babylon" Many erroneously interpret "the beast is now not" to mean that the beast did not exist during John's lifetime (approx 95 AD). But this is erroneous.

A correct interpretation is to determine that "the beast is now not" when the Prophesy of the Whore of Babylon comes to fruition.

The Whore of Babylon has only just begun to be fulilled in the last 100 - 200 years. In this same time span the beast has disappeared and been replaced with western democracy. Thus today the beast is not.

Today, The Beast is NOT and fits with the modern fulfillment of the Whore of Babylon.

Now please understand that the full fulfillment of Chapter 17 may take 500 to 1000 yrs. We are only in the 100 to maybe 200 years of her existence.

Yes false prophets mankind prophets influence by the god of this world Satan (legion )

Satan whose name is legion is not a personally .He has no family . Lying spirts have no DNA needed to to procreate .He is the spirit of error that apposes God's Spirit of truth .Some call it the unholy trinity . Three spirits coming from the legion serpent frog

Satan the legion is many spirits that come out of the mouth of the one father of lies.

Three unclean spirits .Three through the bible in parables represents the end of the matter .

Three unclean spirits is from sixth bowl of wrath.
I strongly feel that the sixth bowl of wrath is the plague of Islam upon the world. If this is the case then the sixth bowl of wrath began in the 6th or 7th century AD, but has not yet ended. Interesting, right??

I thought that the three unclean spirits is a reference to the three caliphates in which early islam spread across globe.
Hmmm, but could the three unclean spirits carry this additional meaning like you suggest signifying "The end of the matter"

I world think it does not equal Islam or any kingdom of this world . It equals faithless mankind, unbelief, no faith . Mankind dying under the letter of the law. "death"

Satan as legion is many gods in the likeness of men. ( Acts14) He is the god of all the kingdom of this world. Natural unconverted mankind who walk by sight .They have no vision from God.

Satan the spirit of error is the god of the Islam or any nation, atheism, Buddhism etc. Mankind that are not found under the two witness of God (gospel) .The law and the prophets together making one perfect law. They will not rise on the last day and receive their new incorruptible bodies..

The letter of the law death will be here till the end of the world. Then it (death)will be cast into the fire of Gods judgment never to rise and condemn through corruption another entire creation .

Satan's name is not "Legion". "Legion" were many demons.

It's based on the Historic view of Revelation. All of the Reformers agreed the Papacy is the Antichrist. Also Wesley, and early English Baptists, and the Church of England. All of their creeds state this boldly.

As the Lord declares the end of things from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), I then understand the "Was" part as being the state of the beast after its future termination.

Yes An what I have gathered is the the Seventh-Day adventists (SDA) butchered and confonfounded the historicist view in the 19th century. And based on this human error done by the SDA other evangelicals moved away from the historicist.

I'm waiting for approval on a post about the Papal Antichrist I made today. It spells out the Dispensationalist connection with the Jesuits in their attempt to remove the Papacy from the charge of Antichrist.

But how does the whole narrative fit into the Papal antichrist? Rev12, Rev 13, Rev 16, Rev 17...? It is important to have a consistent narrative because a lot of believers are lost on this is that there are gaps, inconsistencies and a failure for agreement.

I'd like to compare notes if we may on these things.

If you read Revelation asking what the symbols mean, you can see it in history and today. If you look for the symbols to appear, it will never happen.
