I meant to say I do not assume to be sinless. To understand the texts I posted, you must understand that tenses in the language John wrote in as of first importance were in reference to type of action, not time

Present tense in Greek has to do with continual or repetetive action in present time.

I wrestled with works vs grace issues for a number of years. In my experience debates easily become circular with some yelling about grace verses and others yelling about pro works verses.

What I found is that when you reconcile all verses on the subject of works you end up with two conclusion.

1) You are saved by grace not works

2) Your words and works become your evidence that the grace salvation has taken place.

The Apostle James believed it and the Apostle Paul believed it. Most of the scripture on works comes from these two.

I think the thing that makes it confusing to some born again children of God is that they do not understand the salvation scriptures good enough to harmonize them. Salvation, according to the Greek interpretation is = "a deliverance" We are delivered to eternal heaven, and we are delivered as we sojourn here in this world. After we are born again, we do still sin at times. When we fall into sin we are not abiding in Christ and are not in good fellowship with God. We do not lose our eternal salvation when we are not abiding in Christ, but we do lose our fellowship with God, until we repent and regain our fellowship with God and are again abiding in Christ. When we repent and God forgives us he has saved (delivered) us from the results of that sin. The way you are understanding scripture, I would think that you will have a lot of questions for me, if so, let me have them and I will try to explain to you the way that I think they harmonize.
