Is faith the same as believing? That's where I'm trying to understand. I'm not quite sure. Faith requires substance, evidence.
As I have said a few times,

I can believe in something, and not have faith in something (mental agreement with no trust)

I can not have faiht in something without first believing.

Belief is the first step in faith. You do not just go from unbelief to faith, there is a time God works on us to get us to go from unbelief, to understanding to believing to actual faith.

I am saved by faith, I am not saved by mental agreement..

In the hope of eternal life. Which God, Who can not lie, promised before time began.

I write these things so you may KNOW you HAVE ETERNAL LIFE (our hope) and by it continue to believe (trust, have faith, blessed assurance) in his name
Very sad that people define the Gospel as doing rather than being.
Focus on being who we are will lead to doing.

To reverse it is tragic.

Doing in order to be.
To be what?

Loved, saved, acceptable and earn salvation?

In Jesus and Jesus in us we are kids of the Father.

Jesus is greater than it all.
He alone will judge those who are his and those who are not.

Why does Scripture state over and over and over about believing with no mention of faith? If I'm saved by faith, then I must show evidence to justify my faith. That's a works based salvation. Scripture states that the believer is justified by the faith of Jesus Christ.

Again, it has been explained many times, You do not say if you faith in jesus, the word does not fit. The word belief is the only word in english that fits.

Again,

I can believe and have faith

I can believe yet NOT have faith.

Interpre the word together, and you will know only the first example of the word belief (faith) fits

If I'm saved by faith, then I must show evidence to justify my faith. That's a works based salvation. Scripture states that the believer is justified by the faith of Jesus Christ.
Now your being legalistic. You do not have to prove your faith. Your faith will prove itself.

A person who just believes will have no work

A person who has faith (assurance, trust) will have work.

There is no MUST about it, A person who has faith WILL have works. Period.

Paul said we are saved by grace through the means of faith

Paul also said abraham was made righteous because he had faith (belief)

Maybe you could clarify "Believing with no mention of faith"

What's the difference to you?
To me if I'm saved by faith then the evidence will follow.
That's the reality, yet I do acknowledge each person will bear fruit but at different rates.

Yes we are justified by faith alone.

Do you not think that if we are justified by the faith of Jesus then we have to believe in Jesus to be justified?

Hi all...Lets all speak in truth...Lets all walk in His Light...There is only ONE way...The NARROW way is hard, not easy...It is full of bumps, stones on the ground, but praise God He smooths our path IF we walk in His ways...
For we have been saved by God`s GRACE alone, nothing more, nothing less...
Technology can be the playground for the deceiver to draw us in, but God`s Light will always shine over this darkness...

Are we not ALL in one spirit, should we not obey the Word according to our LORD...My question is, how can anyone not understand that [h=1]Ephesians 2:8-9Amplified Bible (AMP)[/h][FONT=&quot]8 For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; 9 not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation]...

Yes I used AMP, because some need the help to understand...Now after this understanding, we ALL know that works follow, we are children of God...Those who do not know need to know that works do not save us, surely we all know this, but when Jesus comes back, if someone is sitting on their couch stuffing popcorn and being idol, will He know them, for Jesus said He will know us by our fruits...
We can all debate, but at the end of the the day, if one is not walking on the skinny narrow path, then one has to ask oneself and check if they are in the faith, are you saved...xox...

Exactly where I'm coming from. The evidence of Christ's faith is the cross. He was in complete obedience to the Father. Believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ brings salvation. What does that mean? I'm trusting in the cross for the forgiveness of sins.

12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

I can see where trust and believe are the same.

Faith fāTH
noun

  • 1. complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
  • 2. strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

AMPC is the original Amplified version. It many times has more information in it. The current AMP had a lot of information edited out and modified.
[FONT=&quot]8 For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved ([c]delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. [FONT=&quot]9 Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.][/FONT]

So you/we are saved as a result of the faith of Jesus and his obedience?

Just so you know I'm not trying to trip you up. I did read the verse you quoted and I found it, if memory serves me in YLT.
So a few pages back I asked questions concerning this and I can't recall any replies.

Can I ask you what do you think is the faith that Jesus had? I understand his obedience.

But your thoughts on his faith?

its getting easier rose

before i had not seen the evidence of being a new creature
but since He changed me

there are times i am faced with the choice

flesh

or spirit

but now that i have assurance in His promises

and i am confident He has started in me

i have never felt so much joy and peace even though i often face adversity

27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light

Philippians 1:6
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

I have truly felt this today NNM...I have truly felt His peace on my burdens, I have truly felt him carrying me as I layed having my scan on my neck as they looked for the blockage in my artery...

As I laid there I had Scriptures reminding me I was not alone, that He was with me, in me, for Hhe has has promised NEVER to leave me, In God alone I trust...It has been a good day in the LORD, he carried me as I went on trains in the rush hour ( He knows I hate crowds ) He just amazed me today in more ways than I can even describe, why ? because today I was so weak going through that 40 minute scan, wondering what they will find, the evil one trying to drown me, BUT God, kept me still before Him...\o/...xox...

4100. pisteuó ►
Strong's Concordance

Transliteration: pisteuó
Phonetic Spelling: (pist-yoo'-o)
Short Definition: I believe, have faith in
Definition: I believe, have faith in, trust in; pass: I am entrusted with.

believe

__________
faith
4102. pistis ►
Strong's Concordance

Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: pistis
Phonetic Spelling: (pis'-tis)

Simplistically put from the perspective of the Greek words: they are the same: except "faith" is the noun and "believe" is the verb.

pistis = faith
pisteuo = to believe

One is an action and the other is a "thing" (a noun).

But then there can be different kinds of "believing" in the NT: that is - the Greek word pisteuo does not always mean the same thing. When the devils "believe and tremble" - this is not a saving believing!

Which is exactly the same fake "believing" James is exposing among professing believers. That's why he used that bit of information.
