If the unbelieving spouse leaves, the believing spouse is free to marry again?
Yes. But remember, Paul also recommends remaining alone to better serve. However, If the believer cannot remain he or she is free to remarry, but only in the Lord.

Why would you want to break up marriages John. Of course they're married. It's for better or worse. You shouldn't be judging people's marriage. Sounds like you want married women which I noticed you're always posting about liking women in bad marriages and hating their husbands. Marriage always has ups and downs. My marriage included. But people who try to get too close to my wife are wicked. How could you even consider that God didn't marry some people? You're calling them single. That's dangerous. You can't fool God.

I find this interesting, because that is not what Jesus said. Paul is actually going back to the Old Testament. Jesus was much more strict.

even if there is abuse and a threat to the wife and children?
Obviously there shouldn't be abuse, but they should try to work it out and the abusive party should you know, stop the abuse. Though to just be real about it I believe most cases of this are just exaggerated or bald-faced lied about.

Nevertheless, though rare it be in actuality, let us take this hypothetical further and say that the husband be an unbeliever and therefore unwilling to settle this issue with his wife privately and civilly. Then the answer here would be for the wife to go to her father and make known this matter and show him solid proof of the wounds of her abuse since of course the father gave her away in marriage to begin with and is the guarantor of her side of the contract.

one of our daughters has an MSW and is now head of the agency she began working for over a dozen years ago when she was still in school.

domestic violence is, sadly, very real. she doesn't talk about it much, but when she still lived with us, there were days she came home with a tearstained face. it's terrifyingly real, and becoming more so.

Go to her father? We are not living in the 1st century.

You disagree with Paul? Paul said it was fine.
Paul did not say that the committing of adultery is correct. Paul explicitly states that remarriage is adultery. Furthermore Paul recommends to not associate with fornicators and adulterers since they be without the body of Christ (excommunication).

This is the sad part of a false divorce and remarriage doctrine. When folks like @BearerOfTheMorningStar sit in elders seats thinking abused women are liars and advising the couple to “work it out” as the abuse continues.

Young mothers left by the unbelieving husband are advised to remain alone for life, the children left fatherless.

New believers enter the church in their second marriage, advised they’re living in an adulterous relationship. (Actually know of this happening, the father moved out of the house on the advice of elders)

The list of damage this false doctrine causes goes on and on. In my opinion the most damaging (non salvific) false doctrine there is, not only to the believer(s) involved but to the gospel as the outsiders watch the carnage caused by the “church”.

Read the whole verse. But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

Exactly. This is what excommunication is. Therefore anyone that remarries after divorce while their spouse is still alive is an adulterer, they are excommunicated from the body of Christ and stand in jeopardy of damnation to the hellfire. No real Christian is to company with, facilitate, uphold, defend, or aid them in the commission of their grievous sin in any way whatsoever so that the name of God be not blasphemed and mocked heavily as it is today.

Anyone that adheres to Jezebel's doctrines that cause the churches to commit fornication and adultery, both they and their children will be fought against by Jesus Christ himself. But anyone who holds to the doctrines of God pertaining to sex and marriage shall be handsomely rewarded and become a Bearer of the Morning Star.

Revelation 2:18-29
18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
28 And I will give him the morning star.
29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

By your standard there are very few Christians in the world.

Not my standard, but yes, that would be true as we are near the end of this evil world and the darkness just grows darker before the dawn. Happily though our God will save us and annhilate the world. Forsake the world and take hold of the Morning Star. Consider that the Morning Star is surrounded by darkness, yet the darkness cannot overcome its light. The Morning Star is a herald of the dawn, when the light destroys the darkness.

Not sure about this. God doesn't approve of all marriages (many argue here remarriage may be sin). God also may not approve of marriage to nonChristians or non-born again Christians. Bible gives a long list of people we should stay away from...from drunks, liars, fools, etc. I think people put themselves together not God in these cases.
I fully agree with you. God does not join together all marriages. This was true for my disastrous first marriage that lasted 6 1/2 miserable years before ending in the summer of 1984. Worst mistake of my life and I paid the price.

What if the father is dead? An abused wife doesn't have to prove anything to anybody. The only one the abused wife needs to talk to is a divorce lawyer. The abusive husband needs to go to jail too. This is being real about it. Where do you come up with that the father is the guarantor of the contract? That is truly bizarre.

I'm not married yet, I can only say how I would handle, some problems, like stay wright with GOD, and ask him how should I handle these problems, start with forgiveness. then if you really love her, love her with the love of the lord, ask him for wisdom. love, and courage. then take your authority in pray time, tell the devil you can't have my wife, my family. in the name that is above all other names, JESUS, then speak peace over her and healing, and restoration, we can do all things though Christ Jesus who strengthens me.
