We go back to Luke as a decree goes out from Caesar Augustus for all the inhabited earth to be registered. So people have to go to their own city and Joseph goes from Galilee from the city of Nazareth into Judea, to David’s city which is called Bethlehem. He goes with his wife Mary who is soon to give birth. And she gives birth and the child is put in a manger because there is no room for them in the lodging place. There are SHEPHERDS LIVING OUT OF DOORS AND KEEPING WATCH IN THE NIGHT OVER THEIR FLOCKS. God’s angel appears among them so everybody is fearful. And he speaks about the child as Christ the Lord and a savior. Suddenly there is a multitude of the heavenly army praising God. So the shepherds go to Bethlehem and find Mary and Joseph and the infant lying in the manger. After eight days, when it is time to circumcise him, the child is named Jesus. And they bring him up to Jerusalem to present him to God. And they offer a sacrifice a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. And Simeon is waiting for Jesus, he has been divinely inspired by the holy spirit that he won’t see death before seeing the Christ. And he takes the child in his arms and praises God. And Anna, a prophetess who is a widow and 84 years old also praises God. Then they go back into Galilee to their own city, Nazareth. And Jesus grows and gets stronger. Every year Joseph and Mary go to Jerusalem for the Passover. When Jesus is 12 they go again. After the Passover, they leave Jerusalem. After a day’s journey, they realize that Jesus is not with them. So they return to Jerusalem and they find him after three days. He is in the temple listening and asking questions to teachers. And people are amazed at his understanding and his answers. Answering to Joseph and Mary, he asks them: “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in the house of my Father?” And then he comes back with them.
