Anyone here answer a survey regarding this?
I don't remember doing so, so I wonder how 9% can be accurate..Or is it our old enemy sowing discord again?
If there sampling was 1,000 out of 100,000,000 possibilities, the chance of you being polled would only be 1 out of 100,000.

Did you look at their website or links posted?
No I did not, for the simple reason that polls and surveys are TOTALLY MISLEADING. Barna has been at this for a long time, but that does not mean that their conclusions are reliable. And some of their questions are questionable.

Personally, I think these kind of research polls are not worth the time it took to conduct them. Too many possible variables to mess up/skew the results. Having been a Statistician at on time, a lifetime ago, I know that a person can take a mass of data and make it say whatever they want it to..............

So.............

im not a big supporter of missionary work. we should defiantly talk to others about the bible when the spirit moves us, but IMO many churches are over doing it. i dont get the point in raising millions to send missionaries across the sea to a land that already has churches, bible and preachers, why not let the preachers already there worry about the lost souls.
Please tell me that was a typo jaybird, surely you meant we should definitely talk to others about the Bible. I was a missionary to Oakland, California right during the crack epidemic in the mid-eighties. God does believe in missions whether we do or not. There are a group of Christian businessmen that believe in helping also: "The Full Gospel Businessmen's Association." They worked behind the scenes to expedite mission work.

Why do you think that is?
Considering both Protestants and Catholics, nearly 2 billion people in the world refer to themselves as "Christian." And yet, Jesus said, "And few there be who find it," speaking of Eternal Life (Matthew 7:14).

So, this means that hundreds of millions are in the church but not "in Christ." As well, it speaks of tremendous numbers of others who are truly "in Christ," but will ultimately be removed for lack of fruit bearing. In other words, they forsake the Cross for something else (John 15:2, 6).

All born again Christians place their Faith in Jesus Christ and the Cross of Calvary for salvation. But few Christians place and maintain their Faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross of Calvary for sanctification. In other words their Faith may be in Christ but not the Cross, i.e., "The Finished Work," i.e., "The Blood of Jesus." The Apostle Paul calls this "another Jesus" (2 Cor. 11:4). Christ must never be separated from the Work of the Cross; to do so is to produce "another Jesus" (2 Cor. 11:4).

For me, the exact truth in terms of statistical accuracy is not so relevant as the fact that less than 100% of those claiming to be Christians have a Biblical worldview. I am going to assume this means a theistic (definitely NOT to be confused with deistic) worldview. These results then imply that, as a Christian, there might be a discrepancy between what I say and do at any one time and, worse yet, what I, in faith, believe. In college I read a book called "The Universe Next Door" by James Sire. This was a profound experience and one that was deepened by my writing a review on the book. Sire defines a worldview as a commitment of sorts...something that comes from the HEART. Sounds pretty important for a Christian, eh? He says, "The essence of a worldview involves the mind, but it is first of all a commitment, a matter of the soul." The statistical claim about which I comment implores me to examine my own HEART. Fortunately, Paul reveals to me in Romans 8 that "He who searches HEARTS knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for the Saints according to the will of God." I may not have the perfect HEART and therefore the perfect story to tell but this is NOT about me and the only way my story is truly GOOD is for it to be His story creating mine. Rather, it is about the HS residing at my center...in my HEART. I struggle to move closer to Him but there is always that bit of distance...always something that separates us. He is the Potter and I am the clay. I am the broken vessel and He is the Light that WILLS and will shine out from within. This is about submission which is giving up MY worldview and asking God for His. This is about Him being at my center establishing His worldview in my HEART. If I can allow His mastery for even a moment, maybe someone that was blinded by darkness will see His light...see the glory of a worldview created by God for their life as His works His will in MY life! Finally, and fortunately, if I cannot find my own words in those moments, I can claim the glorious words declared in the old hymn, "Blessed Assurance" as my own.

Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and blessed.
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Thank you for your God-thought-provoking statistic! ...one living stone among many patiently waiting...watching and waiting...

Then how would you change to make the results to a point you would call reliable? @Nehemiah6

The first question we need to ask is whether these polls and surveys are even necessary. Who benefits? Any such effort could be limited to each local church if we need to get the actual picture.

Lets ask Barna why they do them...is someone paying them to do them if so who?

Is it church politicians? If theres such a thing. Cos politicians are always paying someone to conduct polls seeking approval ratings.

Market researchers?

The american governement? Maybe they want to know how many churchgoers actually believe what the Bible says. Or maybe its Bible societies wanting to push their own Bibles versions...if not many people actually believe what the Bible says they can bring out new ones. I dont know.

Why not just email them and ask them if you curious.
