John 19

Roman soldiers mock Jesus and Pilate scourges him but he says he is not guilty but the chief priests and the officers want him to be killed and shout it so Pilate tell them to kill him themselves but they answer the law doesn’t permit them to do it. But Pilate is afraid because people say he is God’s son. Finally Pilate hands Jesus to the Jesus to be executed. After Jesus’s death he is put into a tomb.

John 20

Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb early in the morning and it is open so she goes to the other disciples to tell them that Jesus’ body has been taken away. So they go to the tomb and only find the linen cloths. But they still don’t understand that Jesus has been raised up so they go back to their homes. Mary stays by the tomb weeping and there she meets two angels in white then she sees Jesus without knowing it is him but she thinks it is the gardener. Finally she recognizes him and he tells her to go to his disciples and tell them. So Mary Magdalene brings the news to the disciples. Later when the disciples are together in a room Jesus appears to them. And he gives them holy spirit; Later they are together again but this time Thomas is also present and Jesus appears again and Thomas can check it is Jesus by putting his fingers in Jesus’ wounds. And he performs many signs for them to be sure he is the Christ.

John 21

Jesus appears again to his disciples. Once the disciples go fishing the whole night and they don’t catch any fish. When they come back they see a man on the beach but they don’t realize it is Jesus. He tells them where to fish and they get a lot of fish then Peter recognizes Jesus. And they eat together. It is the third time Jesus appears to his disciples. Three times Jesus tells Peter to look after his little sheep.

- John the Baptizer comes to prepare Jesus’ path
- He baptizes Jesus
- Andrew and peter are the first to follow Jesus as they listen to John speaking about him
- Jesus tells Philip to follow him
- Then Nathanael is next

John 2

- Jesus turns water into wine (first miracle)
- He goes to the temple and chases the sellers out of the temple
- Jesus tells the Jews that they will tear down the temple and he will raise it up in three days speaking about his death

- A pharisee called Nicodemus asks Jesus about being born again
- Jesus’ answer: being born of water and spirit
- Jesus speaks about his resurrection
- People must exercise faith in Jesus if they want to have everlasting life
- John keeps baptizing
- John must decrease and Jesus increase

John 4

- Jesus speaks to the Samaritan woman
- She brings people from her city to listen to Jesus
- He stays with them for two days
- and many more listen and believe to him
- Jesus cures a royal official’s son just when he says it without going to his home

- Jesus cures a lame man who has been ill for 38 years
- A resurrection of life and one of judgment

John 6

- Jesus feeds a crowd of 5,000 people by multiplying bread and fish
- He walks on the sea
- He is the bread of heaven that is the bread of life

John 7

- Jesus’ brothers don’t put faith in him
- Jesus teaches in the temple

John 8

- Jesus speaks against the Pharisees
- He opposes himself to the Pharisees

John 9

- Jesus cures a blind man
- The Pharisees don’t want to believe it
- They « investigate »

John 10

- The illustration of the shepherd and his sheep
- The other sheep
- Division among the Jews because of what Jesus says

- Lazarus is sick
- her sister poured perfumed oil on Jesus
- Her sisters sends a message to him about their brother
- Jesus waits for Lazarus’ death
- Lazarus has been in the tomb for four days
- He resurrects Lazarus
- Caiaphas the high priest that year prophesies that Jesus is going to die for the nation

John 12

- Jesus eats dinner with lazarus and his sisters
- Mary pours costly perfumed oil on Jesus’ feet
- Judas says the oil could habe been sold and the money given to the poor
- He says that because he has the money box and uses to steal money
- Jesus says it is in view of the day of his burial
- Jesus goes to Jerusalem on a donkey and the crowd cheers him
- Jesus is troubled because the time of his death is coming
- THEN GOD ENCOURAGES JESUS
- Jesus must live the earth and go back to heaven

John 13

- Jesus washes the feet of his disciples before eating the Passover with them
- Peter doesn’t want
- Then he asks Jesus to wash his feet and his hands and his head
- He explains them why he has just washed their feet for them to do the same that is minister the others
- He says that one of the disciples is going to betray him
- He gives a piece of bread he gives to Judas to indicate he is the betrayer
- He tells them to love one another
- He tells Peter he is going to disown him three times

John 14

- He tells once more his disciples that he speaks according to his Father’s will
- They will receive the help of the holy spirit as Jesus is going back to his Father
- He says that the ruler of the world is coming but he has no hold on him
- He encourages his disciples to stay faithful

- God is the cultivator, Jesus is the vine and his disciples are the branches and the branches bear fruit
- He encourages his disciples to stay faithful
- He gives them the commandment to love one another
- But the world hates them and will persecute them
- They will receive the help of the helper, the spirit of the truth

John 16

- Jesus prepares his disciples for the events to come after his death
- He won’t be able to talk to them anymore
- But they will receive the help of the helper, the spirit of the truth
- They will see Jesus again after his death

- Everlasting life
- Jesus has finished his work on earthquake
- He made God’s name manifest to the men
- He asks God for taking care of his disciples

John 18

- Judas and a crowd goes to Jesus to get him
- Simon peter cuts the ear of the slave of the high priest and jesus puts it back
- They bring Jesus to Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest
- Annas sends jesus to Caiaphas
- Peter disownd Jesus three times
- Jesus is sent to Pilate
- Barabbas proposes to free Barabbas or Jesus

John 19

- Pilate scourges Jesus and mocks him
- finally jesus is brought to the Golgotha to be executed
- Mary and Mary’s sister and Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene are near Jesus
- Joseph asks Jesus’ body to Pilate and puts it in a tomb

John 20

- Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb early but it is opened so she goes to Simon peter and another apostle to tell them
- The two run to the tomb and there is no more body
- So now they see and believe but they still don’t understand the scripture that he must rise from the dead
- They go back home
- Mary stays ans she sees two angels in white and then she sees Jesus not knowing it is Jesus but the gardener
- He calls her and she recognizes him
- He tells her to tell the disciples so she goes to them
- The disciples are locked inside a room when jesus appears to them and shows them his hands and gives them holy spirit
- Thomas is not with them so they tell him but he wants to see him and his hands
- Later Thomas is with the other disciples and the doors are locked and Jesus appears to them and Thomas can check it is Jesus

John 21

- Jesus appears another time to the disciples when they are fishing
- But during the night they catch nothin
- Jesus arrives at the beach and he tells them to cast the net and they catch a huge quantity of fish
- Then they realize it is Jesus
- Jesus asks Peter three times the same question before telling him to feed his little sheep
- He gives indication about peter’s death

John is the only one to speak about Jesus’ prehuman life and the fact that he participated in the whole creation without exception.

-John adds that John baptizes in Bethany by the Jordan.
- The reason John gives to baptize in water is that Jesus is made manifest to Israel.
- And he gives witness that Jesus is the Son of God.
- When John speaks about Jesus as God’s Lamb, two of his disciples follow him.
- Andrew, Simon’s brother, is one of the two.
- He goes and tells his brother they have found the Messiah or Christ and he leads him to Jesus.
- Jesus tells Simon that he will be called Cephas meaning Peter.
- the next day, Jesus finds Philip and tells him to follow him. He is from Bethsaida, Andrew and peter’s city.
- Philip finds Nathanael and tells him about Jesus but nathanael is dubious so philip tellshim to come and see.
- Jesus tells Nathanael he sees him before Philip calls him when he was under the fig tree.
- Then Nathanael recognizes he is the Son of God.
- But Jesus tells him he will see greater things and the angels of God ascending and descending to the Son of man.

John tells us about a marriage feast in Cana of Galilee. There is no more wine and Mary, Jesus’ mother, tells it to Jesus. It is strange! Mary is waiting for Jesus to do a miracle, she knows he can turn the water into wine, she knows her son, but he hasn’t come to Earth to turn the water into wine. Even if she knows because she was told by God’s angel before Jesus’ birth, but in fact she only knows superficially. Like the Jews, like Jesus’ disciples. That’s human! Is there any difference today?

Not only Jesus turns the water into wine but in good wine! When we are told about Jesus curing people, nobody complains, they always see well, hear well, speak well, walk well, everything well, it is not 50%, it is 100%! That’s the difference between Jesus and man!

John is the only one to speak about Jesus' first miracle when he turns water into wine during a marriage in Cana. And he gives details about what happens and the fact it is good wine!

- John gives a different version about those who became Jesus’ disciples: when they hear John the Baptist speaking of Jesus, two of his disciples start to follow Jesus and one of them is Andrew and he goes to his brother Simon and tells him about having found the Messiah and then he leads him to Jesus who calls him Cephas or Peter. Then Jesus chooses Philip who goes to Nathanael who is at first dubious but finally recognizes him as Jesus tells him he saw him under the fig tree.

John is the only one to give details especially about the first miracle of Jesus maybe because he was impressed and about the choice of the disciples to show their particularities. Thus, we see variations corresponding to each one’s personality.
