Bread Crumbs “Hope for a Tree” August 17

Withered and dying. Doubt, fear, and unbelief can suffocate the heart and mind. Tears, sighing, crying, questions, anger, frustration, no promise of a happy ending, no way out, no way to win. Life can cause us to feel this way. But as a born-again believer there is something alive inside of us that we need to acknowledge. Something that can rise up against the present stifling darkness. Something that refuses to give in, to lie down, or to quit. It is the precious presence of God’s Spirit. Just one moment in His presence is all you will need to revive your heart, to get the fire rekindled, to enable you to stir up the gifts that now lay dormant. Just one moment in the soothing, calming, reassuring presence of Christ is sufficient. He may move upon your person through a human vessel, through the written word, or through the melodious strains of an anointed gospel song. Just one move of the Holy Ghost is all you will need. And then, no matter how low in life that you may have been brought to; hope springs upward giving strength. Hope brings new vitality; it secures faith and reassures us by supernatural grace and power. Touch me again, Oh Lord, today!

Job 14:7 & 9 - For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. (9) Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 4:8
Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

Paul reminds us that before we knew God, which was through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ whom He sent to Redeem us from our sins, we were serving those which by nature are not gods. Before one trusts in Christ and His Atoning work at the Cross, they are in bondage, and under the Rule of other things that are not gods, but are rather all influenced by Satan. There is only one God (Isaiah 44:6, 45:5, Jeremiah 16:20), for all other gods have always only been that of Satanic influence through men’s fleshly denial of the One True God!

The only way to know God is through Jesus Christ, and this knowledge of God is Eternal Life (John 17:3). When we place our faith in Christ and His work at the Cross, we are born again, The Spirit of God moves into our hearts, and we begin to follow Christ. When we misplace our faith, and trust in anything other than Christ and His work at the Cross, we have fallen from Grace (Galatians 5:1-4), and then the Sin Nature revives and we die (Romans 7:9), which means we are out of the fruit bearing place, because the Holy Spirit is only legally allowed to work in our lives through our faith in the legal work of Christ at the Cross which legally justified us! This is precisely why this letter was written to Christ’s Church in Galatia. Glory to God!

Bread Crumbs “Are You Ready?” August 18

There is no doubt that on a certain day, at a certain time (which no man knows), a trumpet will sound, the dead in Christ shall rise, and those who are still living and have placed their faith in Christ will be miraculously changed. The Bible states that in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, everything that we know and understand in this present life will be forever altered. The battle will be over, the struggle will be done, and the faithful will rest forever in the presence of their Savior. The Bible declares that this truth is to be known as the “blessed hope” of the believer. Therefore, the blessed hope is not money in the bank, it is not a new car, it is not a higher position in life. Neither is it a home that everyone will envy. It is the truth that one day we will look upon the face of the one we have placed our faith in; the one that we have chosen to love and serve, namely the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no question in my heart as to whether or not this event will occur. It is going to happen! The only question that remains to be answered is, "Are you ready?”

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 - Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, (52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 4:9
But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Notice here how that Paul, the great Apostle, points out that God knowing us has far more significance than us knowing Him. For sure, to know God is to have Eternal Life through the Lord Jesus Christ (John 17:3), and God knowing us is not anything different, just a deeper look at what it means for us to know Him. For one to know God, it means they have believed upon His Son, Jesus Christ which He sent to forgive them and to deliver them from their sins. In THIS faith, God knows His own, as the Word, “know” refers to an experiential knowledge. At the Great White Throne Judgement where only unsaved, lost people will be judged before being thrown into the Lake of Fire, they will hear the Lord Jesus Christ say to them, “I never KNEW you.”

The Lord here in this verse of Scripture is in an attempt to keep His people of the Galatian Church alive and upright, or to return to the liberty and freedom only found in Christ Jesus, which they have forsaken. There is something very revealing here, and that is that when one turns from faith in the cross to trust in anything other, their DESIRE, whether they realize it or not, is to be in bondage again. Deception means I don’t know that I don’t know. I for one know what this is speaking of, for the Lord found me here some years back. Thank God for the Gospel, The message of The Cross coming back into my life. This message changed me and everything about me, and gave me hope for ministry, that without I would have only been in bondage and preaching bondage to the people.

Bread Crumbs “He Will Make A Way” August 19

There is a way out of every stormy situation. There is a solution to each and every tempest, despite the darkening clouds that gather, the drenching rain that falls, or the hurricane winds that blow. Regardless of the ominous threat of a very present and prominent enemy, there is a way through the existing darkness. You and I do not know the way! We cannot see what lies around the corner! We do not fully comprehend ...the threats that lay ahead. But God has promised to walk this path with us. He will keep our feet from being taken. He is always the faithful one. He alone has wisdom and insight regarding every aspect of the current dilemma. I call on His name in prayer! I beseech Him to act on my behalf. I run to the Bible for guidance. His Word is a lamp onto my feet and a light unto my path. His Spirit knows the need. He knows the situation. He knows the correct steps to take to lead me safely through every storm. As I face the raging winds of adversity, I am glad that I can say with a surety that Jesus is with me. He will never leave me nor forsake me! And He will lead me out!

Matthew 7:25 - And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 4:10
Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
...
The Church in Galatia had drifted away from the faith, and were now once again observing days, months, certain times and years as something spiritually right before God. The Church has for the most part been spiritually paralyzed and devastated for centuries due to the subtle deception that creeps in among us and says it’s ok to add anything as an object of faith to our lives along with the Cross. Read Exodus 32 and you will see the example of what happens when there is a mixture. God has never allowed it, and when it takes place, those who are on the Lord’s side will come out from among them, as it is ALWAYS a return to faith in the sacrifice ALONE.

God does not honor one day over any other day, but only His Word in the context of His Son as the Living Word, and what He did at the Cross for all of humanity. The Cross of Jesus Christ was not just for initial salvation, but is the very Well of our Salvation that we with joy draw Living Waters from daily (Isaiah 12:3). God only honors what God does, and He works EXCLUSIVELY within the perimeters of faith in the Cross of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:2), and to disagree is to remain in the crowd of the golden calf builders (Idol worshipers). Today is another opportunity through the call by God through this letter to the Galatians to come out from among those who had fallen from Grace (Galatians 5:1-4), and who had removed themselves from the One who had called them into this Grace (Galatians 1:6). Today is the day of our salvation!

Bread Crumbs “Hard Times” August 20

Living the life of a Christian is the greatest life available to humanity. Christians live with the knowledge that their sins are forgiven and forgotten. Those who are in right relationship with God are experiencing great joy, peace, and contentment. The Christian life is a life of dependence upon God which produces a sense of assurance and an aura of well-being. But it is also true that many spiritual forces are arrayed against the believer. Christians do not wrestle or do battle against flesh and blood, but they are in an ongoing warfare with principalities, powers, wickedness in high places, and rulers of darkness. We also stand opposed by those who have rejected Christ. Our acceptance of the very one they have rejected raises the ire of the world against us. This anger is often expressed in many negative stances regarding the believer. Even friends and family may ridicule or walk out on those faithful to Christ. Believers do face tribulation. Christians will encounter many a trial. Being a Christian is not overly complicated, but at times (not always), it sure can be tremendously difficult. To never expect opposition is in unrealistic expectation. Still, I would never surrender this marvelous opportunity to live for Christ, no matter how many difficulties come.

John 16:33 - These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 4:11
I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
...
“I am afraid for you”, Paul was saying, as the Christians in Galatia began to depart from THE FAITH. He was afraid that he had labored in vain concerning their faith as they were now returning to the captivity and the curse found under The Law. This is the place where the Sin Nature dominates the believer (Romans 6:14, 7:9), as we fall from Grace (Galatians 5:1-4). Men really are in control of one thing only in this life and that is what they place their faith and trust in as it pertains to God. If we place our faith in Christ and His work at Calvary, The Holy Spirit leads and provides all that we need, but if we are trusting in anything other, The Sin Nature and the flesh guide and bring the corruption that will destroy us.

Jesus died to destroy both the Sin Nature (Romans 6:6) and the flesh (Galatians 5:24), which are both rendered idle THROUGH FAITH in our Lord’s sacrifice at Calvary (Romans 6:14). The Cross of Christ is the well of our Salvation, and the only place from which Living Waters flow into our lives. This is called, “By Grace through faith.” We must daily be identified with Christ THROUGH FAITH in what He did on the Cross for us, as it was there that He came to be identified with us, and there alone will faith work by THAT love (Galatians 2:20). May the Light of Christ shine in our hearts today as we cling to that nail scarred hand and run this great race of victory!

God Meant It For Good!

The truth is that most times those who are esteemed of men are rejected by God, and those who are chosen by God are typically rejected by men. The patriarch Joseph was no exception to this truth, chosen and anointed of God, but ostracized and rejected by his brethren.

Joseph was seventeen years old and yet the Lord had his hands on his life. The scripture tells us that despite his age, he was a young man full of wisdom far beyond his years. Joseph was chosen by the Lord to receive the birthright, hence, his Father made him a coat of many colors. This caused great jealousy among his brothers, which lead to utter hatred for their brother, which ultimately lead them to plot Joseph's death. They threw him in a pit with no food or water, left him there, then sold him into slavery which was a life worse than death. He was then sold to Potiphar, falsely accused of attempted rape by Potiphar's wife, thrown into prison, and left there for a few years. BUT, through all of this, the scripture repeatedly says that God was with him.

As believers we must understand that the Lord has a plan for our lives, and despite the hardships and difficulties, we must realize that they are all either caused or allowed by the Lord. Although unseen to the natural eye, the hidden hand of God is orchestrating events in our lives and he's working everything out for our good! Despite all the negatives, Joseph ultimately became the second most powerful man in the world. From the pit to the palace, and that without one ounce of bitterness towards his brothers. And as well, he blessed his brothers and was the reason for their survival. So, this should be a lesson to us all. Be encouraged child of God, for what the devil meant for evil, God meant it for your good!

Genesis 50:20 But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Bread Crumbs “Fleas Come With the Dog” August 21

This devotion is meant as a simple word of encouragement to Pastors, employers, and ministry leaders. When a business or ministry increases, so does it's need for workers. If a landowner had a large amount of ground to till, plow, or harvest, (in Solomon’s day) the use of oxen became a necessity. When you had little or no land, the barn could easily be kept clean for there were fewer animals needed. However, when the demand for covering more ground came, the need for oxen increased. Guess what? The barn now takes longer to clean and can became a real issue. More oxen - greater work - greater mess! Bigger ministry - more people - more problems! You will not be able to do what you were called to do all by yourself. This means that a major part of making any ministry go depends upon the human factor. The human presence promises that “drama” of all types is sure to surface. So do not forget to love and be patient with the ones making the mess! Without them the task would be too large for you! And while you are learning how to receive grace to deal with others, bear in mind that others are learning how to receive grace to deal with you!

Proverbs 14:4 - Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 4:12
Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.

Paul here speaks to the Gentiles who had been forgiven and delivered from their sins, but who were now trusting in many things which had nothing to do with their Salvation. He is encouraging them to come back to the place, which is faith in the Cross of Christ alone, that made them like him, and him like them. Paul had been delivered from the bondage of the Law which is all that exists when we think we have to do anything to be Righteous before God instead of simply believing in Christ and His Righteous work at the Cross. The fruit of our faith will follow if our faith is truly in Christ!

Paul was free, and was calling them back to the experiential place of their freedom as well. It only exists and can only be experienced under Grace, which is through exclusive faith in the Cross of Christ (Galatians 2:21). Christ endured the Cross for the Joy that was set before Him (Hebrews 12:2), and THAT Joy is the Joy of the Lord which is our strength alone (Nehemiah 8:10), and again is ONLY experienced through THIS exclusive Faith in which He loved us and gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20). Why do we sit week after week listening to the Word of God in some other context? Because we’ve been seduced, not only to sit there, but to think God has us there. We must gather with those who are of one mind, one spirit, and striving TOGETHER for THE FAITH of THE GOSPEL (Philippians 1:27). He is calling you out!!
