Well I’ve tried most instrumental families.
Guitar - strings
Saxophone - brass
Tamboren/drums -clashing symbols
Flute - flute lol
Singing - every breathe. 😊

There is no doctrine of Christ that says we cannot use musical instruments in worship.
That's true.
Can you imagine? That Christian church musician arrives before God's judgment throne in Heaven, this scenario per those who argue musical instruments are forbidden in worship, and God says, YOU! OFF TO HELL WITH YOU! I SAID NO GUITARS!

since He created all things, would "His music" be the sound of wind in the fields and trees, birdsong, and the hum of thousands of insects and frogs in the evening?
If He was a "country boy".... :D....lol...

When I was 18 I got a few people from the younger youth together to
put on a few songs in the Christmas carol service.

I played the flute back then
a 14 year old played the trumpet
her 15 year old sister played the claranet
a few younger ones played the recorder and we had a tamborine I think.

I sorted out all the music and harmonies etc and we played a few carols.
We had a lot of older people in the church and they especially loved it.

But there was one lady who was not happy at all. She said it was completely
unbiblical and she would have preferred the pianist just play the carols.

I pointed out to her that while clashing symbols, flute and trumpet are
mentioned in the bible. I didn't recall a piano in the bible!

She went off in a huff!

Not sure if they had clarinets back then and no harp!!! Probably a bong so could be...lol....


You should come to my Synagogue....

I'm not a fan of the music, I prefer the music that "rocks".... gets to dance, shout, and be crazy.... just saying.....

Ages ago someone I know got hold of some tapes (yes that’s how long
ago it was). Which supposedly played the psalms in the traditional way
with traditional instruments. The info said the music and style had been
carefully researched to be as authentic as possible.

It rocked and was very twangy loud and rhythmic.

That’s probably correct when you think of all the percussion and
string instruments they had, not to mention the loudness of the shofar.
(Rams horn) which would have had a limited number of notes and probably
was nowhere near as melodic as modern trumpets.

LOL... I had to go back to Hebrew school just to know the songs on Shabbat...lol

I don't think G-d has a preference really as long it is in spirit and in truth...

I have to quench my excitement, in worship about G-d in church/synagogue and I don't think that is ok either...

I get "happy" praising Him; He fills me. I get His "tangible" presence and I get sometimes just praying but usually from praise in worship, alone together first, and I think it's sad when people do not have Him the way I/we do. Maybe I am wrong about that man from Bible study... But I don't think so.... when you worship and drawl into His presence something unnatural but supernatural does just happen!!!!

Ages ago (going back to the tape recorder days),
a group were practising for the Sunday service and recording their
efforts. They were singing a song and when they played it back
there was a sound like a huge choir singing along in the background
but at least an Octive higher.

You could hear the band members talking, then getting going etc and
restarting after a false start, but also this amazing sweet harmonious
singing in the background.

It was a new tape and hadn’t been recorded over. It was just amazing to hear.
There was a lot of speculation with people wondering if the angels had joined
in that day.

I heard the tape and I have no logical answer.

I think when we worship God the angels do join in.

Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

While a merry heart does good like a medicine it is not a cure, the atmosphere of a broken spirit and contrite heart would seem to work better in most cases.

Because God knows all the languages in any generation he is shown a the best singer. Some of the more modern can be do discourages to those who love the old hymns but its more in the spirt of worship that counts.


Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

I was talking today with some in Bible study about praise and worship. He does not believe in people "getting happy", shouting, dancing, and so on.... I asked him if he was at an Ohio State game and we scored that winning touchdown he would not shout.?. And people are shouting for the Creator of the Universe... G-d Himself and they are happy in Him!?!... (He never shouts according to him, not even at a game... I did not ask his wife...lol). I get different personalities like to worship different ways... I told him he needs to go to a Church of Christ that only uses a pitch-pipe....lol...

The question is, is there a "Biblical" way to worship, or is it just human preference?

Even you are not in the worship service; you can do these things as ways of worshiping God.

Romans 12 New International Version (NIV)

A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 6:19 (NIV) I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.

The examples are not cheating your neighbor; not selling illegal things according to the law; you do not offer yourself as assassin etc.

Yes, there is.
Scripture has this to say:
Deuteronomy 14
"1 These are the statutes and ordinances that you are to make sure to do in the land that Adonai, the G-D of your fathers, has given you to possess—all the days that you live on the earth. 2 You must utterly destroy all the places where the nations that you will dispossess served their gods—on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. 3 You are to tear down their altars, smash their pillars, burn their Asherah poles in the fire and cut down the carved images of their gods, and you are to obliterate their name from that place.
4 “You are not to worship Adonai your G-D in this way. 5 Rather you are to seek only the place Adonai your G-D chooses from all your tribes to put His Name to dwell—there you will come. 6 There you are to bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes, the offering of your hand, your vow and freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock. 7 There you and your households will eat before Adonai your G-D and rejoice in every undertaking of your hand, as Adonai your God has blessed you."

Matthew 6
" 7 And when you are praying, do not babble on and on like the pagans; for they think they will be heard because of their many words."

As scripture indicates we are not to worship by any way we see fit, but we are to worship as G-D has ordained. Obedience is worship, prayer is worship, singing is worship, etc.


Simply obey G-D in how HE has asked us to obey and worship HIM in HIS word, HIS Torah.

This is the best answer ever!!! I get it... It's not about the music, shouting, not shouting, but it is about obedience to the other things, the little things, people/I don't think about with the word "worship"...

I think you hit the nail on the head, sort of speak, the music and enthusiasm is the icing on the cake... if you have those "right" but miss the others .... we have missed the boat!!!

Yes, there are biblical ways to worship, and we must not go by human preferences.

"They worship Me in vain, their doctrine is merely human rules." "In vain" means He does not accept that kind of worship- just like He did not accept Cain offering. To worship Him in vain is the same as not worshipping Him at all. He only accepts biblical worship.

I know this question wasn't directed at me, but since this isn't a pm I will give my answer...

First off we are to rightly divide the Word- old testament and new testament. They worshipped physically, we worship spiritually. They had physical instruments, we have the fruit of our lips. They had physical rest on a physical day, we have the peace that surpasses understanding. They had being physically saved through water (parting of the sea, noahs ark) we have being spiritually saved through water (baptism). Upon the first day of the week we assemble together, pray, sing, take the Lords Supper, give to God, hear from God's Word, and fellowship.
