Im Aaron and Im an atheist looking for answers. my starting questions is why are you christian even tho there is no good evidence for the existence of God let alone the christian God. How do you know your religion is right? and how can you believe if the bible is full of errors and contradictions?
Welcome Aaron,
Your questions frame the answers as you see them. You may not believe that there is "good evidence" for the existence of God; but I do. I know that my "religion" (your word) is right, because I have found it to be consistent logically, historically, archaeologically, scientifically, evidentially, and experientially. I can believe the Bible because I know that it is not "full of errors and contradictions".

So... how about you? Why don't you believe as I do? What is your evidence for there being "no God"? What is your evidence for my "religion" being "wrong"? What "errors and contradictions" have you discovered that hinder your belief?

Atheism is a religion.
Man worship.
Its churches are the schools
Its congregation are the students
Its bible is darwins origin of life
Its preachers are the school teachers
Its innocent blood sacrifice is aborted babies.
Its spiritual guide is the devil
Its false prophet is the media.
Its communion supper is the blood and flesh of the unborn, which ironically never satisfies their insatiable appetite for more and more baby victims.

Atheism is a sick fools religion.

One way or another you are going to be a fool.
A " fool" for Jesus
Or a fool for the devil

I have had both.
One fact remains,if you shake hands with the devil,he WILL bite your arm off

"Precisely what has been stated...'to one who has faith, no explanation is necessary.
To one without faith, no explanation is possible. This also applies to having a spiritual 'enlightenment',
it has to be lived and no explanation would suffice. Let us consider the probability of a normal
human as we know today, possessing the profound wisdom of ALL THINGS as put forth in the Bible.
Testimony of miraculous events in human affairs over the ages have been winessed as life changing
happenings. A spiritual 'enlightenment', I came...I came to...I came to believe...Praise God.
It is not the mission to attempt to convince or prove what is, but to share God's glory for ones
love of just that, God's glory, and to contemplate...I Am That I Am. One God. Scripture and parables have

confounded mankind through the ages...they are not meant to be understood literally, but in a figuratively
expression of words. We are to be led into a relationship with God, for LIFE comes from GOD alone through Jesus Christ teachings...HE IS LIFE...ones own life in God...answering not our questions, but for leading us to LOVE and SERVE others. We must learn to 'insert' ourselves into the Divine Wisdom."

'Praise God'

Have you even honestly and without bias considered the bible........? I will point out one truth that is fair and honest and then give you something to read.....start there....You know....from the beginning, scoffers and those that would reject the validity of the bible have attempted to stamp it out, burn it out, kill it off, discredit it, cast doubt upon it and the interesting truth...all of those fools are dead and GONE, yet what is still here saving lives, changing lives and marching forward while ALL of those that reject it die and rot in the ground.....the BIBLE <----will you to go to the ground a rot while denying a book that has survived all attacks for thousands of years?

THE BIBLE
This book is not the work of one man and or a Shakespearian play.....It was written over a period of 1600 years by some 40 odd authors. It contains the verbiage of Kings, priests, slaves, Roman soldiers, tax collectors, fishermen, thieves, Pharaohs, the rich, the poor, lepers, demon possessed, angels, Satan and every other gambit of human background. It accurately predicts the rise and fall of world kingdoms and even names the leaders of some centuries or more in advance of their coming and exactly what they would do in their reign. It is full of overwhelming proof of divine influence and even speaks to modern flight, modern weapons, nuclear war, genetics, more than 4 dimensions, modern mathematics, medicine, astronomy, and has hundreds of prophetic utterances that have come to pass exactly as they were given without error.
Not only does it contain narrative, but it also contains allegory, metaphor, symbolic, prophecy, parables, poetry, acrostic psalms, prayers, and the words of a donkey while being written in four languages (some Chaldean in Daniel and Aramaic in Matthew) and containing language beyond human comprehension.

ABOVE all....It contains the divine words of the one true God concerning the human condition and the eternal destinies of men based upon said choices in this life I.E. a person's destiny is sealed based upon their acceptance and or rejection of the irrevocable gift of life found in Christ.

What I have said here does not even scratch the surface concerning the validity of the word and the value without price that can be placed upon the pages and pages of wisdom that can be gleaned from the truth found therein.....it is tragic that men devalue it to the mere works of men which states multitudes about their bias, reckless abandon and lack of honest evaluation.

I have evidence from other atheist, who were Ancient Greek writers and philosophers, they wrote about the real person of Yeshua (you know Him as Jesus). They prove this man called JESUS was real BEFORE the Bible did.

Here they are and I'll clarify their intent:

LUCIAN writes about Jesus being real person and people are now his followers. So he proved that Jesus is a real human being and as God.

Evidence from Lucian

Lucian of Samosata was a second century Greek satirist. In one of his works, he wrote of the early Christians as follows:

The Christians ... worship a man to this day – the distinguished personage who introduced their novel rites, and was crucified on that account.... [It] was impressed on them by their original lawgiver that they are all brothers, from the moment that they are converted, and deny the gods of Greece, and worship the crucified sage, and live after his laws.[27]

Lucian of Samosata (A.D. 125 – after A.D. 180) wrote that early Christians worshiped Jesus and lived according to his teaching.

-- LUCIAN

Lucian, the Greek satirist, wrote this rather scathing attack in The Death of Peregrine circa AD 170:

The Christians, you know, worship a man to this day - the distinguished personage who introduced their novel rites, and was crucified on that account... You see, these misguided creatures start with the general conviction that they are immortal for all time, which explains the contempt of death and voluntary self-devotion which are so common among them; and then it was impressed upon them by their original lawgiver that they are all brothers, from the moment that they are converted, and deny the gods of Greece, and worship the crucified sage, and live after his laws. 9

  1. "The man who was crucified in Palestine because he introduced this new cult into the world. . . . Furthermore, their first lawgiver persuaded them that they were all brothers one of another after they have transgressed once for all by denying the Greek gods and by worshiping that crucified sophist himself and living under his laws"

6. Lucian of Samosata
Lucian of Samosata (115—200 AD) was a celebrated Greek satirist and traveling speaker. His book, The Death of Peregrinus (Περì τς Περεγρíνoυ Tελεύτης), (165 AD), is about a famed pagan who converted to Christianity. Lucian wrote,

This period [Peregrinus] associated himself with the priests and scribes of the Christians in Palestine, and learned their astonishing wisdom. Of course, in a short time he made them look like children; he was their prophet, leader, head of the synagogue, and everything, all by himself. He explained and commented on some of their sacred writings, and even wrote some himself. They looked up to him as a god, made him their lawgiver, and chose him as the official patron of their group, or at least the vice-patron. He was second only to that one whom they still worship today, the man in Palestine who was crucified because he brought this new form of initiation into the world [έκενoν ὅν ἔτ σέβoυσ, τòv ἄνθρωπoν τòν έν τ Παλαστíν άνασκoλoπσθέντα, ὅτ κανὴν ταύτην τελετὴν ές τòν βíoν].

Thallos writes about the day Jesus died/was killed on cross that suddenly the skies grew black just like the Old Testament Torah prophesied about.

1. Thallos
Thallos, an author from antiquity gives the earliest possible reference for Jesus, from approximately 55 AD. He’s quoted in his lost three-part history of the Mediterranean, mentioning an eclipse around the date of the crucifixion which some claim could be the darkness that supposedly fell the day Jesus died (Matthew 27:45):

When Julius Africanus writes about the darkness at the death of Jesus, he added: “In the third (book) of his histories, Thallos calls this darkness an eclipse of the sun, which seems to me to be wrong (Toῦτo τò σκóτoς ἔκλειΨιν τoῦ ἡλiou Θαλλoς ἀπoκoλεῖ ἐν τρiτητῶν ῶτoρῶν, ὡς ἐμoῖ δokεῖ ἀλoγώς).”

"Circa AD 52, Thallus wrote a history of the Eastern Mediterranean world from the Trojan War to his own time. This work itself has been lost and only fragments of it exist in the citations of others. One such scholar who knew and spoke of it was Julius Africanus, who wrote about AD 221. In speaking of Jesuscrucifixion and the darkness that covered the land during this event, Africanus found a reference in the writings of Thallus that dealt with this cosmic report. Africanus asserts: 'On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down. This darkness Thallus, in the third book of his History, calls, as appears to me without reason, an eclipse of the sun.'"1

7. Thallus (c. A.D. 52) was a Samaritan-born historian. Julius Africanus (c. A.D. 221) wrote:

"Thallus, in the third book of his histories, explains away this darkness [at the time of the crucifixion] as an eclipse of the sun-unreasonably, as it seems to me."

This was unreasonable, of course, because a solar eclipse could not take place at the time of the full moon, and it was the time of the paschal full moon when Christ died.

Celsus tried to prove the miracles done by Jesus was done like a magician trick:

Philosopher Celsus (2nd century)

The 2nd-century Greek philosopher Celsus, while arguing against Christianity, also accepted that Jesus existed. Here he writes that Jesus performed his miracles through sorcery:

O light and truth! He distinctly declares, with his own voice, as ye yourselves have recorded, that there will come to you even others, employing miracles of a similar kind, who are wicked men, and sorcerers; and Satan. So that Jesus himself does not deny that these works at least are not at all divine, but are the acts of wicked men; and being compelled by the force of truth, he at the same time not only laid open the doings of others, but convicted himself of the same acts. Is it not, then, a miserable inference, to conclude from the same works that the one is God and the other sorcerers? Why ought the others, because of these acts, to be accounted wicked rather than this man, seeing they have him as their witness against himself? For he has himself acknowledged that these are not the works of a divine nature, but the inventions of certain deceivers, and of thoroughly wicked men.

There's many more I could add. I chose these because they are all Greek, all non believers of what the person Jesus was proclaiming, and their writings would be more swayed to their opinion because they had their gods and goddesses. To them, Jesus was a joke and their writings are making fun of Jesus.

But what they did by writing jokes about this real person of Jesus, was they proved this Jesus person in the Bible was a real human being/God (or they claim that's what was said of Jesus).

These Ancient Writers proved there was an actual man named Jesus (Yeshua). And that people worship Him like He is a God.
These Ancient Writers were atheist in their views toward this Jesus character. But they proved Him to be a real person away from what we can read in the Bible.

There is God how do I know because hes revealed to me through his son Jesus Christ. The evidence is in scripture which is not made up, it was spoken through Gods prophets and written down as a testimony to God working his way in the lives of His people.

The Holy Bible is not inaccurate, if you do a bit of research, of how the Bible came about then you will see that its a whole library made up of 66 books written by different people at different times but totally inspired by the one author who revealed Himself to these prophets and apostles.

This God, who to us is unseen, actually sent His son in the flesh to a his chosen people over 2000 years ago. They testify that this man Jesus did miracles healed the sick, preached, made the blind see, the lame walk, and most importantly herald the coming kingdom of God. For this the relgious leaders of the day wanted to put him to death, and got him crucifed, yet amazingly he rose from the dead after 3 days. 500 people saw him (at the time the population of israel wasnt that big). The evidence is the empty tomb...to this day the bones and remains of Jesus are not to be found. He is alive now and forever more. He is taken up to heaven and interceding for all who believe in Him now. He sends his spirit to all who believe.

Another evidence is the changed lives of all those who believe because by Jesus death he put sin to death. What is sin, sin is wrong doing. Christians, those who believe, are no longer slaves to sin. It will be hard to explain to an atheist what sin is since many atheists dont understand and think themselves perfect, but you know in your heart when you do things wrong. Things that would offend a Holy God, like say lying, cheating, stealing, killing, adultery etc. things that hurt everyone around us, and hurt ourselves. Things that, if you keep practicing will result in death. GOd ultimately judges everyone on earth whether they have done good or evil. Because He created mankind in his image.

Now one can seemingly live a sheltered life and avoid all these things personally but I dont really know anyone who does except by the grace of God. And if one has sinned, we need to confess and be forgiven and thats what Jesus offers. Because in Heaven, the kingdom,God wants his people to live forever in, has absoltely NO SIN. Personally I have experienced Jesus healing, deliverance and love in my life and there is no doubt in my heart that there is God, who I now call Father and that Jesus is the son of God and the King of this heaven that is promised to us. And many believers will testify the same. Saved and delivered by Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour.

You can actually pray to him right now and say you want to know Him. He will answer when you call, you just need to change your mind and believe in Him. You are not here by accident.

Im Aaron and Im an atheist looking for answers. my starting questions is why are you christian even tho there is no good evidence for the existence of God let alone the christian God. How do you know your religion is right? and how can you believe if the bible is full of errors and contradictions?
Hey Aaron, welcome to Christianchat! For the existence of God, the way you worded the question indicates you are assuming there is not good evidence for God. One thing that speaks is nature itself. The complexity of the human body also, the order in the universe( laws such as gravity, distance between the sun and earth, how the moon works with the tides etc). Many also have stories to tell of miracles or seeing heavenly beings. Personally for myself I never have seen an angel but I have heard some stories of those of have seen them or may have seen one.

I know that some say that the bible has contradictions and some of these things that seem that contradiction may not actually be that. For one the bible says we are saved " by grace through faith" and not of ourselves but it is a gift of God and not by works( see Esphesians 2:8,9) But James says faith without works is dead( see James 2:20). It goes on to explain about Abraham in verses 21-23: Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he had offered Issac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God."

Back in Genesis, God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, Issac, as a burnt offering. Issac was the child of promise. Abraham was going to be made a Father of many nations through Issac. Abraham listened to God and an angel from heaven stopped him before he could sacrifice his son. Abraham saw the ram caught in the thicket and sacrificed the ram instead. You can read more about this in Genesis 22: 1-19.

The way I see it is that Abraham by being willing to obey God even if it meant offering his son Issac, that act of williness demostrated how strong his faith in God was. This is also a picture of what Christ did for us. God gave his Son, Jesus, to be sacrificed on the cross that we may be forgiven of our sins and spend eternity with him. Many people have died for faith in Christ as well as the early Christians and certain disciples of Jesus. Paul who opposed Christians and persecuted Christians at first converted as well and Paul had suffered hardships for being a follower of Jesus and yet he rejoiced in these trials.

for 1 the very ground u walk on is evidence of creation, 2 Jesus is a real historical person with plenty of evidence that he existed and did amazing things, 3 personal experience, once Jesus spoke to me as a loving father to his son
Your first point evidence of creation, why do you need a creator to explain reality? I don't see why you need to postulate a creator of the universe to explain the universe and reality. why can't reality just be as it is why does it need to be explained? 2 I will admit jesus was a real historical person with some historical evidence of his life however the idea of miracles seems exaggerated especially when considering different interpretations of who Jesus was. Miracles are impossible according to the laws of science, contradictions of the bible are evident for example
Herod & John the Baptist & Jesus (Herod thought Jesus was the John the Baptist)
  1. Matthew 14:2 and Mark 6:16 = YES
  2. Luke 9:9 = NO
Gospel of John
"If i bear witness to myself, my testimony is not true" (John 5:31)
“even if i do bear witness to myself, my testimony is true” (John 8:14)
Who was the Father of Joseph?
Matthew 1:16 = Jacob
Luke 3:23 = Helia
These different interpretations of the bible are self evident in the different christian denominations protestant catholic. The catholic bible has 7 more books than protestant bibles. So you not only need to explain the verses i provided but also where you get the authority to explain the bible in the first place.
Finally personal experience seems like a cope out I can easily say my personal experience has made it self evident to me that God does not exist

Hello Aaron and welcome aboard CC..

You're assuming that Christians have received no good evidence for the existence of God.. What if God caused you to have dreams of the future.. Dreams that came true time and time again? what if God gave you a dream about a place you had never heard about and when you woke up you went on the internet and put the name in google and that place existed as the dream revealed? You see Aaron One human being cannot prove or disprove the existence of God to another person.. But God Himself can prove His existence to whom so ever He wills to reveal himself to..

Religion is about the teachings you believe God has given.. If one agrees with those teachings, then that set of teachings will be right for you.. Until such a time as someone comes up and shows you convincingly that those teachings are bad or wrong..

Well i believe if someone is seeing contradictions and errors in the Bible it is because of their lack of total awareness.. There are parts of the Bible that even Christians have problems with that's why we need a little bit of Faith.. We don't need Faith for everything.. Just somethings.. depending on how much understanding God has given us..

I invite you to reply to my post and give me an example of one of these things you have decided is a error or a contradiction.. Maybe i can clear up a misconception.. Maybe not.. It's worth a try. :)

Im going to respond to this by saying I am genuine in seeking answers but to postulate you know absolutely for sure God exists because of your faith makes you seem close minded to evidence as well. Especially when you use circular reasoning to explain the bible is true because its Gods word and it disproves other religions its circular reasoning because i can say how do you know its God's word because it says it in the bible and you might use 2 timothy 3:16

This quote by Thomas Aquinas pretty well sums things up. "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible."
Stuart Chase said it this way. "For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.’"
This sounds like a lazy respond to suggest you just need faith. Im not in the business to have blind faith in anything. I dont think you have blind faith either i think you have reasons to believe in the first place probably because everyone likes to believe people are going to heaven so your faith isnt blind you percieve lots of things as evident to you. maybe even your own experience of faith itself as your evidence for it. I can have faith in the flying spaghetti monster doesn't make it true or justifed. I want justification for believing in christianity.

The first prokaryote bacterium shows up in the fossil record circa 4 billion years ago.
A single bacterium which has a single strand of DNA consists of billions of bits of information, greater than the amount of information in the National library of Congress.
If only a few of these bits of information were incorrect, the life form would cease to exist.

So even though one may believe in some sort of chemical evolution; information as that in DNA does not evolve from non information. There had to be a source.
Information is just a concept humans have created using our brains like color to percieve the world. you seem to suggest that because DNA and life is so complex how could it happen by random. Well i think it could and i dont see any reason to suggest why you need to say its not random that it needs a creator why do u need to give that purpose the sharp stone is just sharp its not ment to be use as a scratcher. Im not suprised of the complexity of the universe because if it werent we wouldnt be hear.

There were many people who knew Jesus and saw him after he had risen from the dead and who watched him ascend into heaven. Men and women. First hand witnesses who all saw with their own eyes.
Most of the disciples, save John I think, were tortured and killed for their belief in Jesus because they knew what they knew to be true and would not deny Him. They scattered out to form the first churches, church planting everywhere despite the fear of death they faced in doing so. Innocent men willing to die that terrible death of crucifixion or stoning and clubbing pierced with spears, stabbed and burnt alive for Jesus, most just unschooled ordinary men, mostly fishermen, willing to die for Jesus because they were absolutely sure of who Jesus is , his love for them and of their future with him. Everything Jesus had said to them had come true. Because these men knew Jesus, had heard all he taught them and so they were able to pray to him and hear his voice and so pass on the message.
Many of those first believers probably knew Jesus when he walked on earth. Thousands followed him.

It is difficult for someone who has not heard Gods voice to understand him. However Jesus died for everyone, for all. All are welcome.
It says if you seek, you will find. Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Most of us think along with our brains. We are conditioned at a very young age, even before birth through schooling and adult hood to think academically about things. We need the facts. Jesus however looks into and speaks to our hearts. It is something new for us. He knows if you are sincere or not. And you don't need to be at a great meeting, you can be alone with just you and Him, the great I am, the one who made you, the one who died for you. ( Church will help you to grow because God still gives messages to people today through the work of the Holy Spirit. )

Everything that is good comes from God. It is either from God or not and because God can only do good, everything that is good is from Him. So every beautiful thing, be it creation or an act of pure love, is from God. Even in people who do not know him.
John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Jesus reveals himself first. It is up to us how we react.. Jesus will never force you, it is up to you . There are rules like every good father. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit who reveals Jesus to us and helps us to understand the Word. To feel the Holy Spirit is so wonderful and complete. It brings the truth and healing. (Many people are healed today.) You can not explain it. But after you have experienced it you know it is the truth.
again i responded to this knowing God in my heart thing well the muslim can say I know in my heart that allah is my God that allah speaks to me and these people who saw and witness jesus well we dont hear from them they are just quoted and then copied and copied of the copies that recorded what they saw clearly there is room for inaccuracy even exaggeration for who jesus was. People back in those times some believe jesus was just a prophet some believe he was God incarnate contradictions and christians today combine the two into illogical concepts how can he be both God and man at the same time there is no good reason to accept that as an atheist its illogical and . the illogical cant exist

Then you are wasting your time here if you want justification by the rationalising of the human mind.
That's not christianity
I just want good reasons to be a christian I can't consciously go to church with these questions i want to believe it sounds . great but if its illogical maybe your right it is . a waste of time

Christianity is illogical to the rational mind. The best I can come up with is, why not ask God if he exists to reveal his son to you.

I sincerely hope none of you are just blindly following your faith with no reason at all as to why your doing it in the first place. I want to say this because I really do mean it I want to be a christian but i cant in good rational conscious do it if these questions arent resolved. I cant just blindly follow the faith even thomas who doubted didnt have blind faith till he saw the resurrected jesus

why do i need to pray if God knows what im going to ask him if God is so loving why haven't i got the answers yet?
If you are going to say christianity is illogical to the rational mind what if the rational mind yours is the illogical one to accept something illogical like christianity to use your own words as true a married bachelor can't exist its illogical clearly why should I believe in somehting illogical in your words likes christianity if thats the best you can do. Maybe you need to reevaluate your beliefs. Im not saying christianity is illogical i hope it isnt. And i hope there is good grounds to believe in it.
