Still post it! I'll reply it all😀
Yes, sir! Here are my somewhat colorful notes...

Chapter 31

As I said recently, Laban has been a real bleep. Jacob spent 20 years with him and he changed his wages 10 times. Jacob tells him that he would have sent him away without anything, that's most certainly accurate. In verse 43 Laban says these daughters are mine, these children are mine, these cattle are mine. Mine, mine, mine. Thankfully, the Lord provided Jacob with much and guided him to leave Laban. And thankfully at the end of the chapter, Jacob and Laban parted in peace.

I thought it was good of Jacob to talk to Leah and Rachel before packing up and leaving. He didn't just domineer over them or leave them out of the loop, he discussed it with them. Of course, they too were tired of their own father.

---

Chapter 32

Jacob is greatly afraid due to Esau, who is on his way with 400 men. Jacob calls on the Lord for protection. A good example to us all. When we need guidance, when we are distressed, when there is much up against us, we do well to call upon the Lord. We do well to call upon him anyway.

Look at all the livestock Jacob sent ahead to give to Esau. Clearly, Jacob had a very large amount of livestock to be sending such a gift.

This is where we see Jacob wrestle with God. Jacob held onto God and would not let go! Inspiring. This is also where God changed Jacob's name to Israel. And we see that the Lord will not hesitate to wound us if it serves our good and His glory.

---

Chapter 33

This chapter shows a touching scene between Jacob and Esau when they meet after not seeing each other for 2 decades.

---

Chapter 34

This chapter is very interesting. Two people have premarital sex and all sorts of things follow. Their fathers meet and talk. Dinah's brother's plot against Shechem and his people, they make them get circumcised, while the men are sore from circumcision Jacob's sons slew the men and took their livestock and wives and children. Just imagine if we had half of that importance of not having premarital sex in our culture today! lol

---

Chapter 35

The people are told to get rid of their idols. Interesting that they had idols.

Rachel has Benjamin and dies during childbirth. She is buried in Bethlehem.

Reuben lays with Bilhah. This was a big mistake that he would regret, the goofball.

Isaac passes away at 180 years old. He lived longer than Abraham!

---

Chapter 36

The generations of Esau...the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families.
The land could not hold both Jacob and Esau, thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

---

Chapter 37

Jacob makes Joseph the coat of many colors and Joseph's brothers become very jealous.
Joseph has dreams of his parents and brothers pay homage to him, which eventually his brothers would have to do when he is over Egypt! Due to the dreams Joseph was having, his brothers hated him even more. They conspired against him, and wanted to kill him but Reuben intervened. So, they threw him into a pit and intended to sell him. Midianite merchantmen passed by and drew him up from the pit and they sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt and he was sold to Potiphar.
Meanwhile, Joseph's brothers put goat blood on the coat of many colors (there's those goats again!). Jacob believes that Joseph has been killed by an evil beast and he mourns for Joseph many days. He refused to be comforted, "and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning."

---

Chapter 38

Er, Judah's firstborn son, was a real bleep. So, the Lord knocked him off.
Judah's other son Onan, was a disappointment also. So, the Lord knocked him off too.
Judah thinks Tamar is a harlot (as she intended) and he lays with her without knowing it's his daughter in law. What is it with people in those days, they don't seem to know who they are sleeping with! Anyway, she gets pregnant. When he finds out she is pregnant, he wants to have her burned. He changed his mind about burning her though, after it was revealed to him that he is the one who got her pregnant. He was supposed to had given her to Shelah his son, so that she might get pregnant and carry on the seed. When he didn't do what he was supposed to do, she took matters into her own hands.

---

Chapter 39

The Lord is with Joseph and as a result the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favored. Unfortunately, his master's wife had the hots for him. What an unfaithful woman! Treacherous. When he won't lie with her, she tells a ghastly lie against him and causes big problems for Joseph. Joseph is thrown into prison. The Lord continues to be with him and gave him favor in the sight of the prison keeper "and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper."

---

Chapter 40

Two prisoners (the chief butler and the chief baker) dream dreams and Joseph correctly interprets their dreams. The chief butler is restored to his job, but the chief baker is hanged.
The chief butler was supposed to have mentioned Joseph to the Pharaoh, as Joseph requested. Unfortunately, in the glee of his freedom from prison, he forgot Joseph!

GENESIS CHAPTER 34 NOTES

v2 A Canaanite, Prince Shechem, defiled Dinah the daughter of Jacob and Leah

v3 Shechem loved Dinah

v4 Shechem wanted Dinah as a wife

v7 “And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter: which thing ought not to be done.” - Tough circumstance!

v8 Hamor, Prince Shechem’s father, asks Jacob for Dinah to be his son’s wife

v11-12 Shechem pleads to Dinah’s family to have her as a wife. Shechem and Hamor are offing all they can for Dinah to be Shechem’s wife

v13 Sons of Jacob answered deceitfully

v15-16 “But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised; Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.” - This must be the deception because we learned this ought not to be done

v24 The males were circumcised

v25🤯- Simeon and Levi slew all the males?! They are might warriors!

v26 “And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went out." - Wow, did not see this coming!

v30 “And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.” - I wonder if Jacob is saying this because he’s disappointed in his sons and want to show them the gravity of their actions or he really believes he will be destroyed

v31 Simeon and Levi question their father

Lol. How to prevent fornication in three easy steps? :p

Chapter 37

Jacob makes Joseph the coat of many colors and Joseph's brothers become very jealous.

Due to the dreams Joseph was having, his brothers hated him even more. They conspired against him, and wanted to kill him but Reuben intervened. Also similarities to Christ here. Jesus had 12 disciples, Joseph was one of 12 brothers. Jesus betrayed for silver, Joseph betrayed for silver (price of a slave). Jesus went into the Earth, Joseph went into a pit. Jesus rose again and his disciples came to an empty tomb, Reuben returned to the pit to rescue Joseph and Joseph was not in the pit.

v2 “And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God’s host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.” - not sure the meaning
I thought this from heartofdavidministries was a good bit about that verse...

Mahanaim hearkens back to the life of Jacob. Jacob was in deep trouble. He had stolen his brother Esau’s blessing and Esau was enraged. Jacob fled for his life. God appeared to Jacob and promised that His angelic messengers would be with him, even in foreign lands (Genesis 28:10-15). Jacob spent twenty years living far from the land promised to Abraham and Isaac. Finally Jacob found the courage to return. In doing so he had to face his greatest fear—meeting his brother Esau. So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. When Jacob saw them, he said, "This is God's camp." And he called the name of that place Mahanaim (Genesis 32:1-2). Mahanaim means the place of the double camp.

At Mahanaim God showed Jacob that he would meet Esau with two camps. The first camp was Jacob’s family, servants, livestock and possessions. The second camp was a heavenly entourage of angels. Jacob was forced to depend on the invisible camp for protection and preservation. Without this invisible camp Jacob’s destiny was in jeopardy. Miraculously when Jacob met Esau, Esau’s heart had changed. Rather than seeking revenge, Esau met Jacob as a brother. Jacob’s life was spared and he was back in position in the land promised to Abraham and Isaac. To walk in his full destiny, however, would require Jacob’s continued dependence on the invisible camp. From here on in Jacob had to walk in a new way.

v32 “Therefore the children of Isreal eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.” - First time seeing the “children of Israel” after Jacob was named Israel by God. Not sure of the meaning of the hollow of Jacob’s thigh and significance of “sinew that shrank”
I was reading a wonderful article about this this morning. The more you study and learn and grow, the more amazing God becomes in our minds and hearts. From birth until death, I believe we must always be learning.
The article said that God is a God "we can throw ourselves against with the full weight of our thoughts, questions, ideas, and feelings. A God who invites our rigor, our persistence, our intensity, and our strength. This is a God who doesn’t let go."

It goes on to say...
We live in a culture that celebrates success and scorns defeat. But sometimes, defeat is a mercy. Defeat is what saves us. What I carry away from the story of Jacob’s wounding is the troubling but rock solid truth that blessing and bruising are not mutually exclusive in the realm of God. We can limp and prevail at the same time. We can experience healing in brokenness. If I want to engage with God, then I must expect that I will be changed in the process — and not always in ways that are painless or comfortable or easy. I can’t dictate the terms of blessing. I can’t say, “I want the blessing but not the limp.” Sometimes, the blessing is the limp.
Did this answer your question? I don't think it did lol. But, I really enjoyed the article I found and read :giggle:

v19 Jacob bought land. God promised Abraham land in Canaan and Jacob is buying land in Canaan. Not clear if Abraham himself ever owned land in Canaan or his seeds would come to own it one day.
We found out earlier that Abraham had purchased land. It was the land that had the Cave of Machpelah where he buried Sarah.

Modern Israel and Palestine encompass the majority of Canaan.

He's a Lutheran. I'm not. But I have much respect for this guy. I like him - he's not afraid to speak the truth, although some don't like this. I think he did a series on Types and Shadows of Christ (I could be wrong on the name), but it was way interesting - I should listen to it again. I think he might have even said something about the baker and the butler - the baker was the guy who died, and Christ's body is our bread, whereas the butler was restored (after 3 days also).

I'm already queuing some videos of him. I look forward to hearing what he has to say.
I'm not Lutheran either. I do respect that The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod embraces Biblical Creationism. Or, at least they did last I heard. That's rare, bless them.

You are welcome. I make errors too! I'll be making errors for the rest of my life. A lady I worked with told me something one night after I'd made an error (it was fixable, but I felt bad for the trouble it caused), "If you aren't making any mistakes, then I don't think you're working." That made a lot of sense to me.

I from reading thought he died at ge 130, yet I get from internet 175

Toward the end of his life, he sees to it that his son Isaac marries a girl from his own people back in Mesopotamia rather than a Canaanite woman. Abraham dies at the age of 175 and is buried next to Sarah in the cave of Machpelah.
Now see he had kids until age 130, yet I never saw him as dead at age 115, can you give exact script please

That made a lot of sense to me.
Therefore if it is you not working anymore, and it is God through you, not you, then you might be at rest, yet that old person flesh still tries to get use of us to work at it doesn't it, thus mistakes made, called being human an excuse today, to me anyways.
God makes no mistakes ever

Authorized (King James) Version

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

therefore it might be time to be wailing to stop self work and the work of any flesh to work through us, willingly between God and you personally too, the same as Jesus the prefect Son for us. And not fight anyone in awareness of truth you finally see as truth
Become wise as a serpent, remain harmless as a dove (Matthew 10:16-20)
Then see Luke 21:14-15 and trust Father of risen Son Jesus to teach you in his Holy Spirit for you too. Not that I know of how, only God knows, not me or anyone else, includes Jesus's confession, when was called good master in Matthew 19. he replied "Why call me good, only my Father is good"
Amazing distinction, and Jesus is Good, only because he only followed Father above everyone and everything else here on earth

The disciples saw in Matt 19, that rich man walk away sad, and then perplexed, confused, seeing that happened asked!
Who then can be saved?
Jesus answered "With man it is impossible" With his Father all things are possible, then the cross for the cross over for us the people to believe and be new and cross over too, in God's Spirit and truth.
And then watch out for the human cross coverers that do not abide in the resurrection, only the death a half-sham gospel, that I now see and did not see at first. Ask Father and see yet remain humble in it please

GENESIS CHAPTER 30 NOTES

v1 Rahcel envied Leah

v3 Rachel proposed the same thing as Sarah - makes me think of how often was this done

v5 Jacob had a son by Rachel’s handmaid Bilhah

v6 Rachel named this son Dan

v7 Second son was born from the handmaid

v8 Rachel name him Naphtali

v9 When left bearing she gave her maid Zilpah to Jacob to wife - this does seem to be common

v10 Zilpah, Leah’s maid, had a son from Jacob

v11 Leah named him Gad

v14 Leah named the second son from Zilpah Asher

v15 Leah has animosity towards Rachel

My only comment at this time is regarding 30:19.

DT 30:19. We have moral free will, which makes us accountable for our attitudes and actions, our belief and behavior, with ultimate logical or appropriate consequences, which are termed heaven or hell. It is this teaching that explains why this life has so much pain and hatred: Most of it results from human sinfulness/ungodliness. If humanity spent as much energy trying to solve problems as it has engaged in KOTH, earthly life would be almost heavenly.

v16 That was direct!😲

v17 Leah has a 5th son for Jacob

v18 Leah named him Issachar. Noticing that the mothers are naming children

v19 Leah had Jacob’s sixth son. This appears to be a miracle because she left bearing - I’m assuming that meant she no longer had menstruation, but not sure

v20 Leah named him Zebulun. Tough to hear Leah ask her husband to spend time with her

v21 Leah has a daughter named Dinah

v22 God opens up Rachel’s womb - noticed this happens after Leah shows Rachel animosity

v23 Rachel has a son

v24 Rachel names him Joseph. Joseph is Jacob and Rachel’s first biological child

v25 Jacob is still in the land of Haran with Rachel’s father Laban

v31-32 “And he said what shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me anything: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock. I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from then all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.” - it seems he is selecting the animals that are not usually desired? I’m not sure the significance of his selection

v37-43 Jacob was a great livestock farmer
