When I was only 6 months old, I was given into a family who used the lord's name to express almost everything they said. That is how I learned English. I was five before I went to live in a family who did not do this. Now, whenever I become emotional, those first words come bubbling up. It is as if I am another person, it is hateful.

I prayed about this often, and failed to obey the Lord many times. What I have done about it has caused me much criticism. I read in scripture that the when the Lord was training the Hebrews to keep their minds on clean things he reminded them about that by telling them to be sure the food for their stomach was from animals that did not eat garbage as they were to keep their minds from garbage. I am using this discipline to keep reminding myself to keep it clean.

We are told that to use these rituals to teach us instead of listening to the Holy Spirit we have now all been given is wrong, but this constant reminder has helped me control my thoughts and tongue.

I have no question... but I believe that Cussing, cursing and swearing should have no place in the daily life of a believer. The bible is very clear about that... 😊

Ephesians 4:29
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
doesn't this verse define "unwholesome" as talk that tears people down and harms them rather than benefits them?
which, to me, doesn't seem to necessarily have anything to do with vocabulary so much as content & intent.

for example i might tell someone,
"hey @$##^ wow you did a %#@$ great-#$*& job back there, way to go @$^&*# !!"
using some 'vulgar' words but i'm building them up.
on the other hand i could say,

"how marvelous that your efforts achieved a moderately passable outcome"
using flowery words but i'm denigrating them.

IMO the first phrase is in keeping with Ephesians 4:29 even though it includes 'cussing' but the second phrase is contrary to it, regardless of the fact i said it with nice words.

this happens all the time in the BDF -- i am totally guilty of it myself -- that we bite & devour each other in the nicest way possible -- and often in less-than-nicest ways too!
we've really all got to learn to love each other better when we discuss/debate/argue over doctrine. we ((including me!!)) get downright mean, cruel & dismissive :(

i know it's out of passion and zeal for what we believe.

Thanks for being so honest, we definitely all need more fruit of the spirit in our communications at times.

I totally agree with the logic re vocab, a modern version. Of Titus 3 days To speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

(I fail to do this a lot sadly but when I manage it I sometimes find people can assume you are pretentious if you try to be like this, but better to have Gods smile than the approval of man :) )

Thanks for encouraging us all to walk and act in the right Spirit rather than concern ourselves with Ticking religious boxes :)
