This is just a short 8 minute video clip of John MacArthur explaining why he believes(As I do) that certain gifts of the Spirit ceased with Apostles.

I know this is a touchy subject and I do expect some disagreement, but I am interested in what other Christians thoughts on the matter are.
It's a bit like the FE position. Theory is all very well, but the reality is that the gifts are still in operation. I remember having a heated (and stupid) discussion about whether or not the cat could get through the opening of a sliding door. While my friend and I were arguing, the cat had come through the gap and sat there looking up at us. QED.

well MacArthur also believes all those who speak in tongues do so through the power of demonic spirits

do you believe that also Aerials?
And that people can take the mark of the beast and still be saved.

Can you give an instance when he said that? I have heard him refer to Churches like Bethel which I also find to be not of the Spirit.
I do not care for Bethel or those similar either and neither should any discerning believer as they have left off following scripture a long time ago and consider the Bible simply a guide

but I said ALL believers...nothing to do with any particular church...however its' easy to point at Bethel and the like and use them for an example just like posting videos that illustrate extremism and behavior that suggests anything but the Holy Spirit

here is a video where he is 'preaching' on tongues

following, I'm posting a video by Michael Brown.

That’s not the kind of faith I am referring to.
THere is no other kind of faith and thr word of faith movement is not the same as the properity gospel. Most do this in error and associate the word of Faith with people and personaliies they see on TV or Youtube. Word of Faith is biblical even if those who have abused it with the properity message are not.

The word of God says:

Roman 12:3

3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

"Measure" in the Greek means a measuring rod, the rule or standard of judgment meaning the word of God

In some denominations “Word of Faith” has become a central doctrine. In that I mean they teach that unless one has the gift of tongues, healing, prophecy, etc they do not have the Holy Spirit. This of course is a fallacy and unbiblical. That misrepresentation of faith is what I am alluding to.

I think you are mixing up three different things friend 1. UPC believes if you don't speak in tongues you are not saved
2. "the prosperity gospel" that teaches if you are not prosperous you are in sin 3. Word of faith movement

the word of Faith movement was Evangelist E.W. Kenyon (1867-1948) who was a methodist later became pentacostel I think COG were K. Hagin Sr was in. in the late '70s early 80's those who were influenced by it like K. Copeland and others brought into it the name it and claim it prosperity gospel mixed with "word of faith".

'Word of faith " was founded on evangelism, and the healing ministries of those like Oral Roberts. TL Osborne, Lester Summerall, and many more.

those after them used them as a platform to launch Prosperity gospel which came sadly to say from a very good principle in the word of God sowing & reaping.

many used it to make money and boy howdy did they.

John McArthur is a liar and is in danger of judgment for speaking against the Holy Spirit.

You know I am not FAN of the man, however, I disagree he is speaking against the Holy Spirit. He is trying to show those on our side of the aisles :) to stop the foolishness. And he is doing it the wrong way.

Listen it's not as if Pentecostals & charismatics have not given him reason with the foolishness. There was time Chuck Smith felt the same way and then learned .

  • barking like a dog
  • seeking angels to sing in your choir
  • gold dust
  • shaking violently and saying I have the Holy Spirit
  • seeking angel visitations
  • prophesying what the word of God doesn't support
These are not little things they are serious.

i did not watch the video and am not referencing the video but McArthur's statements and standing on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and his 100% Lie which he refers as "cessation of Gifts".

McArthur is is grave danger of the same sin of the Pharisees in claiming that the Gift of Speaking in Tongues has ceased and therefore is of the devil.

Go tell McArthur to be a man, come on here at christianchat and present his case against the Holy Spirit.

Aerials:

I asked you if you believe anyone who speaks in tongues does so by a demonic spirit as does Mac Arthur

will I get an answer here?

Sure you can prove it. Look at Paula White and confirm that she is really speaking in tongues, Kenneth Copeland speaking things into existence. Anyone with even a hint of discernment would see they fabricate almost everything.

So what do you believe? Because we have been through this in two recent threads. So unless you have something new, why start another thread.
