I've been the bassist in my church worship team for almost 2 years now, however when I'm in the congregation I don't have the confidence to fully commit to the worship, like putting hands up etc, however when I'm playing my bass if feel much more connected to God, and it's my way of expressing myself and my way of glorifying God, is it wrong to be this way? I just don't feel confident when amongst my youth leaders and peers, any advice?

Hey Ethan, i have also been in your shoes, as i have been singing on my youth worship team for about 4 years now. I woukd go through the same problem, I would be able to worship freely while on stage but then when i was in the congregation i found it diffucult. This then started to mess with my role. Being on the worship team makes you a leader, no matter what role you play and people will watch you on and off the stage and they will see how you worship. So if you can connect with God only on stage and not in the congregation, unfortunately people will see that. I would just encourage you to pray about it and remember its not a concert or a talent show, its worship and God deserevs our praise. So for me it was just a matter of getting out of my own head and putting my own worries aside and realizing that I needed to focus on God, and not what anyone else was thinking or doing because worship isnt about us its about God. And when you can truly connect with God not on stage, people will see that and it will help lead your peers into worship as well. Thank you for using yor talents for the kingdom!
