Will we know our parents?

Children?

Friends?

Ex wives

I recently listened to a short video of a rabbi's meditations in which he posited that if it weren't for God's continuous sustaining of creation, it would all revert back the nothing from which He had created it. And that prompted me to question whether if even our history were actually 'eternal' apart from God.

I believe so. King David said that his son was not coming to him but that he would go to his son. I believe that God will leave us with memories of this life, but take away any sting or regret. We will spend eternity in great appreciation of the salvation that Jesus bought for us at such a cost.

Psalm102-25-26-Isaiah65-17-Revelation21-5a-Isaiah43-18.png

Psalm 102 verses 25-26, Isaiah 65 verse 17, Revelation 21 verse 5a, Isaiah 43 verse 18 ~ In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them, and they will be passed on. For I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. And the One seated on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Do not call to mind the former things; pay no attention to the things of old.

Good question, not answered in the NT very clearly.
Surely nothing will be remembered that would ruin heavenly happiness,
but if nothing is remembered of learning God's Word during our earthly sojourn,
then what would be the point of this problematic and sometimes painful existence?!

King David knows his son now but at the New Jerusalem he will not know him.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

This heaven and earth shall pass away and there will be a new heaven and earth.

And the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

The saints and angels will remember nothing prior to the New Jerusalem and it will not come to their mind.

That means you will not remember the earth and the people and anything that happened.

It is a place where sin has never been and sin will never be.

The saints will not remember the former earth because it is associated with sin and rebellion.

But the New Jerusalem is after the millennial reign of Christ so make sure you say goodbye to your loved ones, family and friends, for one day you will not know them.

King David knows his son now but at the New Jerusalem he will not know him.

I believe we will know our friends and family in heaven. The thing I look forward to the most after being with God is the fact that sin is gone no longer will we have satan and his demons trying to tempt us to do wrong we won't be battling internally we will just be inclined to do what is right.

We will know true love and God's way of love. I'm sure we won't want to dwell on past sinful pains that we had on earth but I believe we will be so happy to be in heaven there will be so much for us to think about and do that this current earth won't be what we even want to think about.

To start in Genesis when the Lord made Adam from the earth, Adam made from the soil had no life till the Lord breathed into him, And what was this life IMO was a living soul, not a breath of air.

Same when our parents come together to have a child, our parents make us from the earth but the soul comes from the Lord

You make it sound like the movie "50 first dates".

EVERY morning Jesus will have to somehow explain to us why He has holes in His Hands and Feet.

I hear, God as the only one good, I know, not how yet I trust all will be well in the new Heavens, Even here now in God's spirit and Trutht only. seeing contentment know in all things good or bad happening. A growth process to trust Father alone in Risen Son for me at least and all others in thier own times with God too Father knows best! Jeremiah 29:11

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I also have been fully known.

So the answer is yes.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Nothing has to be explained to us because we will not remember the earth and the people and what happened there.

God does not want us to know for it is associated with sin and rebellion.

Joh 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
Joh 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Thomas seen Jesus in the flesh.

So there were nail prints and His pierced side.

Thomas did not see Jesus as spiritual but as physical.

Act 1:3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

Jesus was in the flesh.

Act 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Now Jesus has a spiritual body which does not have nail prints, and the side pierce so there is nothing to explain.

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

We will not remember anything from the earth.

Re "Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind."

Oh boy! Another prooftext that needs to be understood in context.

Says who?

When Jesus appeared after His Resurrection, He was in His Resurrected Body.

Where’d you get the idea He is floating all around like sort of a mist?

Jesus showed a resurrected body which was His resurrected human body for how can He show He resurrected from the dead unless it is His human body.

Jesus has a glorified body now so there is no nail prints or pierced side to show.

Why would He be floating around like some sort of a mist.

i think were all are assuming you mean when in heaven, will we remember life on earth. Isaiah 65:17 speaks of a new heaven & earth. some interpret that as, "no, you can't remember anything. further, it says, past troubles will be forgotten & hidden. the Bible also teaches all tears will be wiped out. i heard a pastor teach that you will not be able to remember anything & that earthly matters no longer pertain too anything. since all is perfect in heaven, i think we will remember great times & memories from earth.

I think we will recognise those we knew here, as another poster mentioned David expected to see his son. However, I do think how we remember them may not be quite like how we remember them now.

Ultimately though, we must consider that the resurrection will change everything and what lies ahead we cannot imagine so, while it is a pleasant pastime to think on from time to time, it is never something we must get too caught up in.

1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

So the answer is yes.

I see we each grow in grace from God Father in risen Son the two as Won (One)
And as we know, Moreland more, I see tasty humble thankfulness and not be anyone better than anyone else ever

I think the point of this earthly experience is to learn GW, thereby being sanctified by the HS,
and in heaven we will have perfect memories, so that we will never be tempted to repeat the fall of Satan.

Also, amen to what homwardbound just posted re what Edify posted (1Cor. 13:12).
