Let's cover ourselves with the cleansing Word. Here’s another way of putting it, “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh” (Romans 13:14). We clothe ourselves with the WORD. Jesus is the Word that became flesh.

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” This can be literal and symbolic. Our journeys (feet), our hands (actions) and our 5 senses (head) should also be pure. I believe that here, we can’t cover these with Scripture alone. Jesus will do this for us in his own time.

We’re told to wash our hands and purify our hearts in chapter 4, but I realized that it’s not a literal thing because it’s the Word of God that purifies us. Not water. Water can be filthy too and we could wind up sinning if we keep leaving our safe positions to use the sink in the bathroom/kitchen. We are also told to give up our body parts to be used as holy instruments. We have a God that is capable of healing and capable of miraculous purification for water. If He can bless our food, can He also bless our water? I believe He can, but let’s stay in His Word for a little while first. If we do this, the below is what will happen.

“I will dwell among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord. “Do not touch what is unclean, and I will welcome you. I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.

Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. — 2 Corinthians 6:16-7:1
