Hey Everyone,

This thread is the result of listening to a YouTube video where two grown adults were arguing over the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is -- and it was getting heated!

It's been a while since we've had a stirring, CONTROVERSIAL thread in this part of the forum, so this seemed like a good topic!

I have to confess though that I've never watched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -- I remember when they first came out, and I laughed out loud when I first heard the title because it just seemed too strange to be an actual show.

But as many know, these 4 sewer-dwelling, pizza-eating, bad-guy stomping turtles have become cultural icons.

* And so, at the risk of starting virtual fist fights on this forum, Who Do YOU Think Is the Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and WHY?

Just for fun, I'm going to include a poll where we'll be able to see everyone's answers, and, if you have a hard time deciding, you can choose more than just one turtle!

* And for all of us who weren't Ninja Turtle viewers, what were some of YOUR favorite childhood characters, and why?

For obvious reasons to those who know me, one of my favorites is Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. How could anyone not love an adorable blue furry monster with googly eyes, and a mission to promote eating cookies?!

I found it interesting to learn that Cookie Monster was originally designed simply to be a monster in commercials who would eat virtually anything... But eventually, he was transformed into the lovable cookie-gobbling bandit we know and love today:

(Do you think they made the right decision to remove his jaggedy teeth?! I'm trying to imagine whether Cookie Monster would have been as adored by children if he'd have been coming at them with rows of teeth that resembled a great white shark...)

And so, just for a bit of Saturday morning fun:

1. Use the poll to vote for YOUR favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (or of someone you know, such as a sibling, cousin, your child, etc.), then come back and tell us WHY that particular turtle is just so cowabunga awesome!

2. Tell us about YOUR favorite childhood characters, whether from books, movies, shows, or maybe a made-up character from someone who loved to tell their own stories.

Share a bit about what you loved about that character and why you identified with him, her, or it!

Pictures aren't required but are very much welcome! :D

I chose Leonardo because apparently he prefers pepperoni pizzas, and so do I. Obviously a preference for pepperoni is a very positive trait that speaks to a persons good sense.

It's been a long time since I watched a teenage mutant ninja turtles movie, but it was fun watching those with my kids. My kids are all grown up now.

Something interesting a CC member told me about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is that they were all given specific weapons to temper both their personal strengths and weaknesses. In particular, their weapons were chosen to give them no choice but to work on their own personal shortcomings.

For example, Michelangelo (so I'm told,) is the fun-loving brother who sometimes doesn't take things seriously enough, so his weapon -- dual nanchuku -- makes him have to focus.

I really liked this concept because it makes me think about all the "opposites" God puts in our lives to make us work on our own weaknesses -- the person (maybe a family member) who gets on our last nerve when God is teaching us patience; my own natural clumsiness because God often humbles me with it; the things we want that elude us -- because God wants us to work for them, etc.

I can't recall ever seeing TNMT but I DO enjoy pizza! A nice slice with cheese, peperoni, and mushrooms. Go hog wild and throw on some ham or bacon crumbles and we are having a par-tay!!

I think, after considering all the reasons for each of them, I liked Rafeal because he wore a red mask, but his Sais bewildered me. I liked Leonardo's katanas and Michaelangelo's nunchakus, but their personalities annoyed me and so I think I related to Donatello who needed no steel in a weapon because all the sharpness was in his mind.
