Matthew 1:21 says, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."
I notice a lot of people on this site interpreting the phrase "his people" and "my people" as cultural Jews only. Jesus' people are so often seen as just cultural Jews rather than anyone he has saved from any background. Who are Jesus' people in the above verse?
Here are some other verses for comparison:
"Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again:" (Isa 51:22)
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin,and will heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14)
"From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance." (Psalm 78:71)
"Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." Psalm 100:3
"For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance." (Psalm 94:14)
"He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend ishis name." (Psalm 111:9)
"As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD isround about his people from henceforth even for ever." (Psalm 125:2)
"And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt." (Isaiah 11:16)
"So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand." (Daniel 11:15)
