Acts 7
Then said the high priest, Are these things so?
2 And he(Stephen) said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,.....................................
51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

What is irresistible is:
No one can be perfect, no one. the Law of Moses given the people and us also proves that. We all are born imperfect and each needs perfection, that is in the risen Son for us all to believe God Father or not.
Therefore: God by Son offers this to everyone to beleive God or not. Consciously aware of each persons choice. So, at the time of Judgement no one will have any legitimate excuse
God gives perfected Son as risen where new life begins in anyone that chooses God and stands steadfast in trusting God to learn from God and not self or any other anymore 1 John 2:1-27, Col 1:21-22, 23
John 19:30. it is finished, under Law, Jesus completed it on that cross, 2 Cor 5:17-20. Is now risen where new life form Father is a gift,. So turn to Father as in John4:23-24 tells you and be new in Father's Spirit and Truth as Son was the entire walk here on earth first. For us all to have an equal chance by God to be saved by God in truth, thank you Father
Father never lies, It is done for us all in Son, thank you Father, PaPa, Daddy wow!

Irresistible grace means if you're chosen by God you have no choice in the matter; God's will prevails no matter what.

They "resisted" because they were not chosen? Ok.....So God(the Holy Ghost) was just toying with them I guess?(sarcasm intended)

Stephen was one of the disciples of the lord chosen after the death of Jesus, when he spoke these words it was only believed to be roughly 5 years after the death of Jesus. And many of his own did not receive him.

Stephen was proclaiming his word in a very confrontational argument by the looks of it in acts 7 irresistible grace is for people who trust in him and believing in him. Such grace in a person from God becomes irresistible.

Act_13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

They chose not to be chosen, because God's desire for them to be chosen (1Tim. 2:3-4) is resistible.
