I don't tithe. I believe that tithing is a concept from the Old Testament that was fulfilled in the Net Testament. Now, instead of giving 10% give your time/talents/treasures from the heart. 10% for the rich person is just a giving of the excess and it is not the same as 10% for a working person; in debt and living paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet and support a family. Take the lesson of the 'widow's mite' she gave more than the others who donated much more, because she gave out of love what she could and not of excess monies. Jesus said that her contribution was greater than all.
As I said, I don't tithe but I do give generously, from the heart. And the amount I give isn't determined by any 10% rule. Give generously from the heart. PS. Make sure you aren't giving at all to a multimillionaire pastor or a megachurch that's grubbing for your money for luxuries for themselves. Give nothing to the greedy, and there are so many greedy preachers, pretending to preach in the name of Jesus.
If your pastor/preacher is living the high life on the congregation's dime, not a penny from you.
I've always understood that the tithe was for the support of the temple and it's staff - Levites. The tithe wasn't about time or talents but provisions. Malachi 3:10 "Bring the whole tithe into the treasure-house, that there may be food in my house...".
In the New Testament it seems that its about giving, and not tithing by commandment as was correctly said already. From the beginning of the NT church we see that giving was not considered a tithe, but rather they simply gave to meet needs. From the beginning of the NT church we see that giving was out of love and about meeting needs (See the end of Acts 4). In acts chapter 5 Ananias and Saphira were punished not because they didn't tithe (or give) but because they lied about it. Paul took up offerings as he traveled for communities of saints that were ailing but he didn't "sell it" as tithing - or otherwise as an obligation. He didnt tell anyone they were cursed because they didn't give.
This is all to say that none of us technically - or Biblically should tithe (though 10% is a tidy little system to manage regular giving). We all should give as God leads whether it be to a church or ministry we believe in or directly to individuals who have a need - or both but know that we are under no such commandment except to love...

I don't think we are under the Old Testament command to tithe any longer. Under OT law, it was commanded, and it had to be a tenth I'm pretty sure. So the motivation under that system would be simple obedience to God. Though we do see in the case of the widow's farthing that some gave more than they were required to give out of love.
Since we are under New Testament grace, giving is no longer REQUIRED but instead should be an outpouring of charity: a love offering. Let everyone give as much as they are able. 10% is a good starting point because the church has financial needs. The motivation in this case is love and thanksgiving, not duty or obligation.

For me tithing is not a command ---it is a Biblical Principle ------Tithing services God's Kingdom ---Tithing is Spiritual--- it is about the Heart more than it is about finances ----- it is about faith and trust in God to provide for us -----
First off ----God doesn't need my Financial help --Tithing for me is about me showing God that I have Faith and Trust in Him to guide my life and finances ---
By sacrificing a portion of my income it reminds me that I must rely on God to provide all that i need as He states in His word -----
By tithing it keeps me aware that helping others is God's will for us -----
Tithing keeps me humble and encourages a grateful and generous Spirit ----and keeps me from the love of money which gives way to greed ----
The New Testament doesn't --really talk about tithing ---it talks about giving ----

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
You Cannot out give God Folks ----it says to give what is in your heart to give ------
So comparison here --Old Testament and New Testament ---both saying the same thing -----a blessing will be poured out with your giving ----and there is protocol for your giving to be recognized and blessed -----

I say --this is another subject that most churches avoid preaching the truth on ---as money is a taboo subject in most Churches today -----Satan has instilled fear into the Church ---afraid they will loose the people they have if they bring up money ---
Many have a fear of financial Lack if they give to their church each week -----Many give their money as they know they can claim it on their taxes ----but is that really giving from your heart and relying on God --NO --It is relying on the Government for their return not God ---which shows their lack of trust in Him - just my view on that -----

I dont tithe 10% but I do give to my church because God has blessed me with a nice paying job and I feel in my soul to give back to the Lord.
If you give 100% out of obligation for selfish reasons it means nothing... God owns everything, every cent in your bank is Gods and He does not need us to give Him money, God can achieve things 1000 different ways, He is not dependent on us.
It is a blessing for us to give. We are asked to give and if we are willing for the right motives we are blessed by giving.
Faith is tested when times are hard, but God has asked for 10% so i will continue to give 10%, trusting that He will provide all my needs.

the Love of God towards the poor. I’ve noticed today pastors make a paycheck as the ot priests didn’t and needed tithes for food and daily needs also a treasury for the hungry and poor
my belief is we give to the needy to
Honor God and witness the name of Jesus as our tithe pertaining to worldly things

We give of our selves whether money , food , compassion , our time ect. The motivation needs to be love for God and others in need. But it’s meant to be offered with Jesus name to his glory
at times I tithe to the church if we have a program That helps the poor in his name . mostly it’s when I can’t find someone who is in need that week, and it’s not ten percent for me it’s whatever I can afford to give more or less it varies.
As I have posted several times, No. Offerings are jusst fine and as is written a workman is worthy of his pay.
The Israel of Joshua and after was a theocracy headed by God, with the main mediator of that time being the High Priest. The tithe, if any would read about it, was for the upkeep of the priests, the Temple, and other necessities of the people of Israel, including the aid for the poor.
If you had no annual profit, you did not need to pay the ten per cent. Tithing in the Book is akin wo income tax as I see it.
