Many look and say well this does away with Gods Law, that those who follow the Ten Commandments are 'legalistic'. That although they are 'under grace,' by walking in a path of obedience, that keeps 'the commandments' they are in danger of coming 'under law' again.

So is Paul saying that the Ten Commandments have any further claims upon the believer, that they no longer have to keep the Law. Well, Paul gives a answer to that as he knew that would be the question. So what does he say, lets look.

Romans 6:15
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Paul makes clear that this is not so we can sin, but that under grace, those who truly believe will not go into sin as he states 'God Forbid' to such a thought. So what is Paul talking about here in Romans, well we get a clue in his letter to Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 9:20-21
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

So what is Paul saying here, well obviously he is talking about the Jews versus the Gentiles, but notice he says a curious thing, 'being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ'. So what is Paul saying, well lets look directly at the words of Christ.

Matthew 5:20
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

This is clear, being under to law to Christ is beyond the level of the literal law, that it surpasses even what the Jews and their teachers thought it was and followed. The entire law, including both moral and ceremonial aspects, revealed by God, existed with a view to the coming of Christ at that point in history. The law was intended by God to keep before the minds of Israel and men everywhere that the real meaning and purpose of the law lay in the full and final revelation when Christ would come to this world. And what does Christ say, He says that ones righteousness would go beyond the law if one wanted to enter into eternal life. We see Christ laying it out to the rich young man.

Matthew 19:17

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

And we will be judge by this law of love that we are given which is the literal law, 'being not without law to God', and the level of love that surpasses even that, 'but under the law to Christ.'...

The term "under the Law" means; all, every last one of the human kind are "under" sentence of death for the transgression of the Torah.

All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God and are "under" the penalty of death.

It does NOT mean, as most want it to mean, we are no longer "Subject to the LAW". No obedience is required

If that were so, then repentance would no longer be something we must do..

With out law listing what sin IS THEN no sin is possible.

And if Christ had abolished the Torah, why then did He die? With out Torah and the Commandments how would sin be possible.

as Paul clearly stated: Romans7: 7 What shall we say then? [Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

The key is to use the law lawfully, ie. for instruction and edification

Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Romans 7:12
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. Matthew 5:17

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them."

People have thrown the baby out with the bath water. We haven't been freed from our responsibility to the law but the law isn't our salvation. Just going through the motions like the pharisees did won't help us. It's what me in our heart that matters
 
Christ obeyed the Law perfectly while on earth; He did not stumble in any point (James 2:10)

He is also our Sabbath rest (Hebrews 4:9-10).

Therefore our obedience is through Christ and His righteousness.

Paul wrote that the Law is established by our faith in Christ (Romans 3:31).

God is logical. 2 plus 2 always equals 4

and hundreds of words are not required to express God's Truth.

faith & love is the new covenant in all I understand, you can read it thru out the epistles and Gospels Paul is always saying I heard of your faith & love.

we are to be Led by G-D'S Spirit, putting JESUS 1st in HIS RightFull position something the flesh cannot do, for being led by the flesh is death

Rom 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh, you shall die. But if you through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.


have you ever really thought about what it means to love G-D with all your heart, with all your strength, with all your soul & your neighbour as JESUS has LOVED us? HE went to the cross for us

in another place it says to be carnally minded is death ( to be led by the flesh the devils domain) to be Spiritually minded is LIFE & peace.

under the law means during the old testament days, peoplewere "governed" by the law. in other words, "subject to the law". the moment after Jesus died on the cross, we are now, justifiably, under God's grace by His perfect omniscience.
 
For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Romans 5:13

Gal 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

if we walk (Led) in the fruits of the Spirit (not under the law)

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,

so being Led by G-D'S Spirit there is no LAW, having JESUS 1st in your life/walk..

it is being led by the flesh that a man will be under the law of sin & death..

We do not void out the law through faith but we live up to the law.

Which the law is spiritual which are the moral laws, laws of love, which must be always obeyed.

Out of the heart proceeds good or bad so if the law of God is written in our heart then that is how we would conduct ourselves.

2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

If we confess Christ we have to abstain from sin which is what seals us.

If a person hates sin, and does not want sin if they allow the Spirit to lead them they can abstain from sin.

So there is no excuse.

A Spirit led person is not under the law because their sins are forgiven and they are not sinning therefore the law cannot touch them for prosecution.

Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Those that endure temptation and does not sin shall receive the crown of life.

2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

These people do not come to the truth for they will not allow the Spirit to lead them and enjoy sin.

They say faith alone and they cannot abstain from sin enjoying sin on purpose acting like there is an excuse when they could of chose not to sin.

Forgiven by God through Son's done willing death once for all, Hebeews 10:10. Where through Father, we each in belief are given new life to love all the same as are first, loved by Son, who went to that cross to die once for us all. To get new life in Jesus's risen life given , the gift of Father, knowing who is who and what is what! God through Son. God gives new life of love and mercy to all, through the done work of Son, who is risen to live in and through each person that is sincere in belief to God, God approves. Do you not see to not accuse abuse or excuse anyone over doing wrong anymore? Are you, me and others neglecting you too are forgiven too? Romanns 2:1-4

I, so do not glory in anyone doing wrong. I rejoice in Love and mercy to all 1 Cor 13:4-7 to see verse 13 Love goes on forever, and God has been doing this love for us all through the done work of Son, who Forgave, reconciled us all first 2 Cor 5:17-20 done before new life could ever be given by God Father of Son for us each personally first. Born new in God's Spirit and Truth, not of flesh anymore
Can we not see it is done, John19:30 being under Law, to upholding Law Romans 3:31 in Love and mercy to see to respond to God and waiting on God to work God love and mercy through us. Psalm 82
This is reconciliation given by God to us all to be thankful and stop being better than others and claiming riches in, I am better, no thanks Luke 18:9-14

We are not under Law, we uphold Law, Christ's love to Love all as God does 1 Cor 13:13, so ask God for the imputation 1 Cor 13:4-7 of true Love,. thanks
 
Those that have repented of their sins, have been baptize and by the laying on of hands received the Father's Spirit in them, are no longer "under" the penalty of death, our death penalty has been paid by Christ.

but those who's sins have been paid, must live by the Commandments, our duty to our Master.

I like this "First, to be “under the law” is to attempt to secure God’s verdict of justification by the law. Paul says in Galatians 2:21, “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if justification were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.” The false teachers were teaching Christians that they had to keep the whole law of God for their justification, not only the Ten Commandments, but circumcision and the Jewish food laws and festivals. This was a false gospel (Gal 1:6-7"

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Many look and say well this does away with Gods Law, that those who follow the Ten Commandments are 'legalistic'. That although they are 'under grace,' by walking in a path of obedience, that keeps 'the commandments' they are in danger of coming 'under law' again.

So is Paul saying that the Ten Commandments have any further claims upon the believer, that they no longer have to keep the Law. Well, Paul gives a answer to that as he knew that would be the question. So what does he say, lets look.

Romans 6:15
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Paul makes clear that this is not so we can sin, but that under grace, those who truly believe will not go into sin as he states 'God Forbid' to such a thought. So what is Paul talking about here in Romans, well we get a clue in his letter to Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 9:20-21
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

So what is Paul saying here, well obviously he is talking about the Jews versus the Gentiles, but notice he says a curious thing, 'being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ'. So what is Paul saying, well lets look directly at the words of Christ.

Matthew 5:20
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

This is clear, being under to law to Christ is beyond the level of the literal law, that it surpasses even what the Jews and their teachers thought it was and followed. The entire law, including both moral and ceremonial aspects, revealed by God, existed with a view to the coming of Christ at that point in history. The law was intended by God to keep before the minds of Israel and men everywhere that the real meaning and purpose of the law lay in the full and final revelation when Christ would come to this world. And what does Christ say, He says that ones righteousness would go beyond the law if one wanted to enter into eternal life. We see Christ laying it out to the rich young man.

Matthew 19:17
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

So Christ begins with the standard that had been given, to keep the Commandments, and the young man lays claim to doing that 'All these things have I kept from my youth up' but notice what he says next, 'what lack I yet?'

Jesus says to go beyond the law, so surpass it and give all 'and come and follow me.' Christ wants us to obey out a of love for God and neighbor that goes above the literal words given in the law, and that we know, we cannot claim ignorance...
Acts 17:30-31
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

And we will be judge by this law of love that we are given which is the literal law, 'being not without law to God', and the level of love that surpasses even that, 'but under the law to Christ.'...
In Roman 7-8, Paul said that the Law of God is good, that he wanted to do good, that he delighted in obeying it, and that he served it with his mind in contrast with the law of sin, which was working within his members to cause him not to do the good that he wanted to do, which was waging war against the law of his mind, which held him captive, and which he served with his flesh. Moreover, Paul contrasted those who walk in the Spirit with those who have minds set on the flesh who are enemies of God who refuse to submit to the Law of God (Romans 8:4-7). The Law of God leads us to do what is holy, righteous, and good (Romans 7:12) while the law of sin leads us in the opposite direction by stirring up sinful passions in order to bear fruit unto death (Romans 7:5). So verses that refer to something that would be absurd for Paul to delight in doing should not be interpreted as referring to the Law of God while verses that refer to a law that is sinful, that causes sin to increase, or that hinders us from obeying the Law of God should be interpreted as referring to the law of sin.

For example, Romans 6:14 describes the law that we are not under as being a law where sin had dominion over him, and it would be absurd for Paul to delight in sin having dominion over him, but rather that is the role of the law of sin. In Romans 6:15, being under grace does not mean that we are permitted to sin, and in Romans 7:7, the Law of God is not sinful but how we know what sin is, so we are still under it, but are now under the law of sin. In Romans 6:16, Paul contrasted these two directions by saying that we are slaves to the one that we obey, either the law of sin, which leads to death, or obedience to the Law of God, which leads to righteousness. Moreover, everything else in Romans 6 speaks in favor obedience to the Law of God and against sin.

In Psalms 119:29-30, he wanted to put false ways far from him, for God to be gracious to him by teaching him to obey His law, and he chose the way of faith by setting it before him, so this has always been the one and only way of salvation by grace through faith and why Romans 6:15 says that those who're under grace are not permitted to transgress it.

This should also inform how we interpret Galatians 5:16-23, where Paul contrasted the desires of the flesh with the desires of the Spirit and everything that he listed as works of the flesh that are against the Spirit are also against the Law of God while all of the fruits of the Spirit are in accordance with it. The desires of the flesh causing us not to do the good that we want to do is how Paul described his struggle with the law of sin in Romans 7-8, which the Law of the Spirit has freed us from, so that is the law that we are not under when we are led by the Spirit. The Law of God was given by God and the Spirit is God, so it would be contradictory to interpret Galatians 5:18 as referring to the Law of God as if we are not led by God when we are led by God. God has not commanded anything that is not in accordance with walking in the Spirit, but rather the example that Christ set for us to follow can equivalently be described either as walking in the Spirit or as walking in obedience to the Law of God.

Please read post #17. It would be absurd to interpret that as referring to the Law of God as if Paul delighted in the strength of sin, but rather that is the role of the law of sin. Likewise, a law that is the strength of sin is a law that is sinful, but Romans 7:7 says that the Law of God is not sinful but how we know what sin is.

Consider all the other things it says regarding it

We need to die to the law of sin in order to be free to obey the Law of God, not the other way around. The way to be unified with God's Word made flesh is not by dying to God's Word, but by dying to a law that was hindering us from obey it. Likewise, the way to bear fruit for God is not by dying to His instructions for how to bear fruit for him but to a law that was hindering us from doing that.

The goal of the law is to teach us how to know God and Jesus, which is His gift of eternal life (Exodus 33:13, Matthew 7:23, John 17:3. In Romans 9:30-10:4, they had a zeal for God but it was not based on knowing Him, so they failed to attain righteousness because they misunderstood the goal of the law by pursuing it as though righteousness were earned as the result of their works in order to establish their own rather than pursuing it as though righteousness were by faith in Christ, for knowing Christ is the goal of the law for righteousness for everyone who has faith. In Romans 10:5-10, Paul referred to Deuteronomy 30 as the word of faith that we proclaim in regard to proclaiming that the Law of God is not too difficult for us to obey, that obedience to it brings life and a blessing, in regard to what we are committing to obey by confessing that Jesus is Lord, and in regard to the way to believe that God raised him from the dead for salvation, so nothing in this passage has anything to do with Jesus ending the Law of God, but just the opposite. It doesn't even make sense to think that God's Word made flesh ended God's Word.

To have a character trait means to be a doer of that trait, so for God to be righteous means that He is a doer of righteous works and it would be absurd to interpret those verses as saying that being a doer of righteous works is only for the unrighteousness. Those who who say that the being a doer of righteous works is only for the unrighteous in order to justify their freedom to be a doer of unrighteous works thereby become someone that the Law of God is for. In Isaiah 51:7, the righteous are those on whose heart is the Law of God, and in 1 John 3:4-7, everyone who is a doer of righteous works in obedience to the Law of God are righteous even as they are righteous.

In Romans 3:27, Paul contrasted a law of works with a law of faith, in Galatians 3:10-12, he contrasted the Book of the Law with "works of the law", and in Romans 3:31 and Galatians 3:10-12 he said that our faith upholds the Law of God in contrast with saying that "works of the law" are not of faith, so that phrase does not refer to the Law of God. Those who do not continue to do everything in the Law of God come under its curse, which is why all those who rely on works of the law instead come under that curse.

God wanted His children to repent and to return to obedience to His law all throughout the Bible and even Christ began his ministry with that Gospel message (Matthew 4:15-23), so it would be absurd to interpret those verses as warning that we will be cut off from Christ if we repent and believe the Gospel of Christ.

If you agree that we should refer from doing what God has revealed to be sin, then you should be in favor of obeying the Law of God.

Christ did not come with the Gospel message to stop repenting because the Law of God has ended now that he has come and we are now free to become doers of what it reveals to be wickedness, but rather he came as the promised seed to bless us by turning us from our wickedness (Acts 3:25-26).

A priesthood that is led by God's word made flesh does not involve doing something other than or contrary to God's Word.
 
I like this "First, to be “under the law” is to attempt to secure God’s verdict of justification by the law. Paul says in Galatians 2:21, “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if justification were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.” The false teachers were teaching Christians that they had to keep the whole law of God for their justification, not only the Ten Commandments, but circumcision and the Jewish food laws and festivals. This was a false gospel (Gal 1:6-7"

It is important to recognize that the Bible can speak against obeying God for an incorrect reason without promoting rebellion against God. We can't earn our justification even as the result of having perfect obedience to the Law of God because it was never given as a way of doing that, but that doesn't mean that we aren't obligated to obey it for the reasons for why it was given.

In Matthew 4:15-23, Jesus began his ministry with the Gospel message to repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand, which was a light to the Gentiles, and the Law of God was how his audience knew what sin is (Romans 3:20), so repenting from our disobedience to it is a central part of the Gospel of the Kingdom/Grace, which Paul also taught by word and by example:

Acts 14:21-22 When they had preached the gospel to that city and had kmade many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

Acts 20:24-25 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again.

Acts 28:23 When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening he expounded to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.

So Galatians 1:6-7 should not be interpreted in a way that turns it against the Gospel that Jesus and Paul taught.
