Ok so to start out I'm not completely sure but here's my understanding of it plus what I was taught by one of my teachers but I personally don't agree with what she taught. So blasphemy to the Holy Spirit is the 1 unforgivable sin BUT if you become a Christian you're forgiven of all sins. (This is where what my teacher taught me gets to where I don't agree.) my teacher said that even if you do become a Christian after commiting blasphemy to the Holy Spirit you will still go to hell and she said something about how Paul might be in hell and so I completely disagree with her but that's just my personal opinion. I believe that the blasphemy is saying God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit aren't real and the reason it's unforgivable is if you die saying that (not literally but die believing that) because you obviously can't be forgiven of your sins after you die. Sorry this is so long but I hope this answers your question!

In order to understand what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is, we need to go to the source:

According to the scripture above, Jesus was casting out demons by the Spirit of God, but the Pharisees said that He was casting them out by Beelzebul and by doing so, they spoke against the Holy Spirit calling Him evil, which was the blasphemy against the Spirit that Jesus referred to. Consequently, a person would have to do the same thing in order to commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Blaspheme against is also equal to speaking against
- to speak reproachfully, rail at, revile, calumniate, blaspheme
- to be evil spoken of, reviled, railed at
When comparing between them they seem consistent in the same wording (whether of blaspheming or speaking against) both are used interchangeably below (See Matthew 12:31-32 use them in that manner)
Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you,
All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men:
but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Mat 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him:
but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him,
neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Luke12:10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him:
but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

Blaspheme is shown as something spoken, even as Jesus said, because of what they said, (and against Whom)

Paul said that he was before "a blasphemer", as he confesses so much to the same in 1 Ti1:13. He also said the same was forgiven him for doing so the ingnorance.
On that point, some say Paul was a blasphemer against the Holy Ghost (which would not be forgiven men) rather the Son of man (who was actually set for a sign "to be spoken" against) even as Simeon stated so much in Luke 2:34 after Jesus birth.
We see Saul yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord Jesus in Acts 9:1 or against the sect itself as it was called of these in Acts 28:22
So Saul can be shown to be both a persecutor and injuious, and confessed to being a blasphemer (1 Ti 1:13). There is also “all manner of sin and blasphemies” by which men blaspheme that would be forgiven them even as Jesus said, and likewise we see Saul/Paul being forgiven of the same.
And just as he that speaks a word against the Son of man would be forgiven I am not sure how Paul might have blaspheme against the Holy Ghost (having been forgiven in that blaspheme)
There is blaspheming (and in all manner of it) that men do where it shall be forgiven men and where it shall not be forgiven also.

Blaspheming similarly would be of that which can be forgiven men (in this age or the next) as was Paul's who was before a blasphemer, so I would conclude these to fall under all the blasphemies wherewith soever men shall blaspheme shall be forgiven them but not of against the Holy Ghost, since Jesus said,

It was by the Holy Ghost Jesus did so. He was anointed with the same and he went about healing all that were oppressed of the devil
Whereas they attributed the works done by the Holy Ghost (in and through) Jesus to him "having" a Beelzebub

They were not speaking a word against the Son of man (after the flesh) but rather they were speaking words against the Spirit of Christ (the Holy Ghost) by Whom Jesus did His good works through, even casting out devils

By the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
By the Spirit (with power) they are speaking to
Then he asked them,
How can Satan cast out Satan?

Every mention in the above is of the Spirit in Him (not of Him)

and (BY) the prince of devils (ie Satan) he doeth these things
Saying basically he (HATH) an unclean spirit
Nothing of the Son of man was being touched in any of that (Mat 12:32) but against the Holy Ghost that was in Him which was being referred to in those three ways. That was all against the Spirit in Jesus.
The definition of Blaspheme itself (as I am reading it) appears mouth/tongue related when it speaks of someones speech, slander, railing, and evil speaking in it. Jesus also seems to bring it down to the same when he points out in the context which they equate the works of the Holy Ghost (done by him) to Beelzebub (the prince of devils or Satan) and points out specifically because of what "they said" (and against who they said it) which was not about him himself, but that he had an unclean spirit as Jesus shows it.

We can discount this claim regarding Paul committing blasphemy against the Spirit has being completely false. For if Paul had done so, God would not have appointed him as an apostle of Jesus Christ, nor would Paul have been caught up to the third heaven nor would he have received revelations and visions directly from the Lord. Consequently, if Paul had committed blasphemy against the Spirit, neither would God have used him as the apostle to the Gentiles. Neither would Paul have been able to say, "I have finished the race. I have fought the good fight."

In Hebrews it states, in so many words that if you taste all the fullness of the Spirit and then turn against the gospel, there's no forgiveness. This is much worse than backsliding, it's being basically an apostle or prophet and then to call all the works of the Spirit a lie. The Lord told me that, if you have done this, you would never even seek forgiveness or repentance, because He leads us to it.
it is a borderline meaningless phrase, which comes from "newer" translations of the bible in a part that refers to the "unforgivable sin" and I f***ing hate it because the original text said that the "unforgivable sin" was to call someone ("he") who's clean unclean
Borderline? Jesus spoke this against the Pharisees and the teachers of the law. Jesus was casting out demons and they said that he was casting them out by the prince of demons. Since Jesus was casting them out through the power of the Holy Spirit, they were committing blasphemy against the Holy Spirit by calling him unclean/evil. I would hardly say that the only unforgivable sin as being a borderline, meaning phrase.

You should be careful when referring to scripture as borderline and meaningless. If it is in the word of God, then it is there because God wanted it to be there and he means what he says.
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
Finally we agree 100% on something. The unpardonable sin is exactly what you said, it is accusing Christ of being of, or having powers given by, the Devil. The Pharisees who accused Him of this committed blasphemy against the Spirit and they are condemned to hell, plain and simple. Christ told them where they were going in other places too, so not good to be one of them.
Some believe that is it impossible to commit this sin today because Christ is not here performing miracles. To be safe, I wouldn't go around accusing Christ of being of the devil or having powers from the devil.
