Hello

My Church offers an annual grant to families that attend the Christian school on their property.

It’s just a financial gift to families of the church/school.
“We want to support families in raising their children in the Christian faith.”

Each year I decline the grant because we are fairly blessed financially and I don’t tithe. I do help in some ways like volunteering etc.

I have a Christian friend who is in some financial strain right now and I’m thinking to accept the grant this year and gifting it to her. Would doing such a thing be morally wrong? I would like to help her financially out of our family funds but my husband is fairly restrictive in giving money. He’s not a born again believer (yet🙏) so we see Christian charity differently of course. I asked if he would agree to help them with the grant money and he agreed.
What should I do.

Ultimately it isn't up to either you or your husband, it is up to the originator of the grant. Technically to use the money for anything other than what it was given for would be considered fraud in a court.

maybe I should clarify “grant”

there’s no strings attached or specifications. It’s not for low income families or anything it’s just an annual gift.
But I understand what your saying and I agree if it was a grant with expectations the money would be used for something specific

Any grant from the church to you reduces the amount of your donations that you can claim on your taxes.

The process is known as money laundering.

The safest way for a church to handle this is to pay the school student scholarship fund directly.

There’s no scholarship fund
It’s a very small elementary school like 150 kids
The church just gives back to the families that attend their school
I don’t know about the money laundering thing but maybe that’s just over my head
…anyways if it’s wrong then it’s wrong I won’t do it. I won’t “regift a gift” lol.
I just know my friend could use the money right now things are not going well and I thought of this as a way to help her.

Ask the pastor of that church this question. If this were done, it were best done open and honest. Explain to the pastor exactly what you have explained to us, and ask if he's cool with that.

You would be representing the Body of Christ in sharing with others.
