My son is got avenged sevenfold playing. When I was 6 my parents made me smash my KISS record. I feel like it stirred up an uprising of rebellion. There could be a softer way of giving knowledge, praying and letting him decide? For now I will tune this out for various reasons. Some obvious, some not.

Yeah, when i was young my dad was cool with music, i remember hearing Journey and Foreigner on the radio, from my bro/sis. Even having my parents let me get my face painted like KISS when i was 5, haha. But then my dad saw one of those 'metal is evil' programs. A few years later i got into rock and metal as a teen. Then got saved and started listening to Christian metal. He thought it was all satanic for the longest time, haha. But now he's realized how off that thinking is. He even likes some of the old hair metal bands i grew up on.

Yeah, when I was growing up my dad played Hendrix, Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Steve Miller Band...I guess Gene Simmons spitting blood was too much for them.

My Mom was cool too. Let me listen to my secular music even when her christian friends told her she should go in my room, throw it all out & tear down my posters. She said to them,"Now what possible good can come of that? Will that make him want to come to the Lord or will it push him farther away?" I'll never forget that about my Mom. Even if she didn't agree with the lyrics or images, she still had my back. I was her son & she sided with loving me to Jesus, rather than being all radical & condemning. I'm not saying all parents should follow suit, but I am just thankful she went about things in that way. I always respected her even more for that.

Avenged Sevenfold isnt actually that terrible of a band. While they certainly aren't christian, they do have some uplifting songs and are excellent musicians.

I know. What it did to me was start a rebellion.

Yeah, they are good musicians. I just don't like the style personally. Which means nothing about them, it's just my taste.
