I am 20 years old and haven't been to church in about 8 or 9 years. I was baptized as a catholic which means I am still a catholic. I am a bit distant right now from God. I am in college right now. What is something super easy I should start with to help feel a bit more connected again? The idea of going to church makes me very uncomfortable and nervous. I am almost scared of church at this point.

Being baptised does not make you catholic or anything else. It is God who saves, not a priest, a sacrament or ritual.

John 1:12

"But to all who did receive Him (Jesus), to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God............."

If you will receive Jesus as Saviour and Lord, you will be born again and you will become part of God's family. Then you will no longer be distant from God. You will want fellowship with the brethren.

Before I was born again, I hated church. I was compelled to go for 3 years. When my circumstances changed, I quit. As soon as i was born again, I realised that I needed to go. So I found a Baptist church that was accepting and allowed me to be myself. I was in the military (Navy) and traveled a great deal. I found churches in many of the countries I went to. That included Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and many cities in Australia. I discovered that the label did not mean much. Believers are believers, in spite of some doctrinal differences.

Ask God to lead you in the way that you should go. He loves you enough to send Jesus to die for you. His will is the best we can have.

How about you get you a King James Bible and begin reading it, asking God to increase your knowledge and understanding. You don't have to go to a church to become close to God. Just talk to him and let him know that you love him and tell him what is on your mind. He is your heavenly Father and loves you very much and wants to hear from you. I would also recommend you check out Shepherd's Chapel on Youtube or on line for a chapter by chapter, verse by verse bible study on many different books and subjects.. God bless you as you reunite with your Father. Don't let those college professors corrupt your views of the world.

Hello,

It's good to see your need to get close to the Lord, especially at an age when its common to forget about Him. He wants to help and guide you as the Father. Seek Him early and He will help in every area of life.

Here's a Free Bible to bookmark and start each day. Start with prayer for help to understand it.
I would also get a paper KJV Bible. This is important because the use of the word "believe" in the gospel of St John comes up a significant number of times in this traditional text. Underline it and all tenses of believe. Add it up at the end and let me know what you get. I'll let you know 🙂 if you got the correct answer.

For good sermons, I like James Knox< bookmark and listen for a blessing. 📖🙂👍

"The idea of going to church makes me very uncomfortable and nervous."

The reason for feeling like this is you are hearing the Church of God call to you in Spirit, and this call to your Spirit is what "makes you very uncomfortable and nervous"

The Church of God = the Call from God to come out of 'her'. 'Her' is Babylon.

What many call 'church' is really a religious temple, a building , house, home, sanctuary, made from hands of man.

And well.... this is what God states :

Acts 7:48

English Standard Version
Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,

King James Bible
Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

Christian Standard Bible
but the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says:

International Standard Version
However, the Most High does not live in buildings made by human hands. As the prophet says,

Aramaic Bible in Plain English
And The Exalted One does not dwell in the product of hands as The Prophet says:

Start by mediate and asking God to lead you in discerning his Living Word, soon you will be sent the Holy Spirit in Jesus's name and be in Spiritual fellowship with the Holy Spirit with Jesus in the midst.

Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Every Knowledge from God comes when God wills it appropriate for you to KNOW. This is a Life time walk with God Spirit.

forsake looking for something easy to get started. human history shows & proves when involved in easy tasks all the time, we take things for granted & move on, not concentrate like we should & abandon the effort. become a born again Christian immediately, by a Nelson King James Study Bible. when b.a., you are living with the Holy Spirit for life. he will help you understand the bible. that's the absolute best you can do. the devil has a grip on you about attending church. cast him out: 1st Peter 5;7 & Psalm 55:22.
