Many sincere people within the Roman Catholic Church truly love God and seek to serve Him. But as followers of Christ, we must “prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). When we test Catholic doctrine against the King James Bible, several contradictions appear that cannot be ignored.

1. Authority
  • Catholic teaching: Church tradition and the Magisterium (Pope and bishops) hold equal or greater authority than Scripture.
  • KJV Scripture:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine…” (2 Timothy 3:16–17)
God’s Word alone is the final authority — not councils or papal decrees.
2. Salvation
  • Catholic teaching: Salvation comes through faith plus works, sacraments, and the Church.
  • KJV Scripture:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)
The Bible teaches salvation by grace alone through faith in Christ alone — not by rituals or church membership.
3. The Role of Mary
  • Catholic teaching: Mary is called “Mediatrix” and “Co-Redemptrix,” receiving prayers and intercession.
  • KJV Scripture:
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5)
Jesus Christ alone bridges the gap between God and humanity.
4. Confession to Priests
  • Catholic teaching: Sins must be confessed to a priest for absolution.
  • KJV Scripture:
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.” (1 John 1:9)
Only God forgives sin; no human mediator is needed.
5. Purgatory and Indulgences
  • Catholic teaching: A place of purification after death, where souls are cleansed before entering heaven.
  • KJV Scripture:
“Absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8)
There is no mention of purgatory — the believer’s soul goes immediately to be with Christ.
6. Idolatry
  • Catholic practice: Prayers before statues, relics, and images.
  • KJV Scripture:
“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image… thou shalt not bow down thyself to them.” (Exodus 20:4–5)
God forbids any form of veneration through images.

The Call to Return to God’s Word
The true Church is not a denomination or institution — it is the body of believers redeemed by the blood of Christ. Jesus said:

“Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)

Let us test every doctrine by Scripture alone — not tradition, not emotion, but the unchanging Word of God.
For the Word of God stands forever, and it alone reveals the way of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Yeah, I suppose so — but since I usually read and quote from the KJV, that’s just how I worded it.

I’ve read that ‘Calvinism Dictionary’ piece — it’s written more as satire than theology.
Mockery isn’t the same as exegesis.
If we’re serious about truth, let’s go to the Scriptures themselves rather than a parody list.
The Bereans were commended not for clever definitions but for searching the Scriptures daily to see whether those things were so (Acts 17:11 KJV).
The goal isn’t winning a label war — it’s rightly dividing the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV).

I don’t claim loyalty to Calvin, Luther, or any system — only to Christ and His Word.

If something I say aligns with Scripture, then the source isn’t Calvinism — it’s truth. And if it doesn’t align with Scripture, then it should be rejected, no matter who said it.

The issue isn’t whether an idea sounds “Calvinist,” “Catholic,” or “Arminian,” but whether it’s biblically true.

Acts 17:11 praises the Bereans because they “searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” That’s all I’m trying to do — to measure every teaching, mine included, by the Word of God.

I hope you do not mind if I add their quotes and how it differs from the Bible. As a disclaimer I think there are many Catholics who are good people living up to the light they have, so this is about their system not individuals

Catholic church
Tradition, not Scripture, is the rock on which the church of Jesus Christ is built.
—Adrien Nampon, Catholic Doctrine as Defined by the Council of Trent, p. 157

God's Word
Psa 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

Catholic church
The leader of the Catholic church is defined by the faith as the Vicar of Jesus Christ (and is accepted as such by believers). The Pope is considered the man on earth who "takes the place" of the Second Person of the omnipotent God of the Trinity.
—John Paul II, Crossing the Threshold of Hope, p. 3, 1994

God's Word
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

Deny the authority of the Church and you have no adequate or reasonable explanation or justification for the substitution of Sunday for Saturday in the Third - Protestant Fourth - Commandment of God... The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.'
—Catholic Record, September 1, 1923.

God's Word
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go [c]therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [d]Amen.

Catholic church
... you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify.

God's Word
Eze 20:12 Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.

Gen 2:3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Catholic church
It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.
—Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.

God's Word
Eze 20:20 hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’

The Pope is of so great authority and power that he can modify, explain, or interpret even divine law". The pope can modify divine law, since his power is not of man, but of God, and he acts a vicegerent of God upon earth
—Lucius Ferraris, Prompta Bibliotheca, art. Papa, II, Vol. VI, p. 29.

Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act. And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters.

God's Word

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

Well said. Not all catholics worship the pope. One I worked with I asked about Saturday afternoon mass to take care of Sunday. He laughed and said "the pope fixed it". A very nice lady I know was raised catholic, school, the whole enchilada. She doesnt believe "all of it" and IMO she lives a more christian life than most protestants I know.

Ooops I made a mistake and said this was from the Catholic church when it from the word of God (about the CC)

God's word
He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute[j] the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.

Q.Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?

A. Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her; —she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.
