You are right. Some people see "commitment" as a key ingredient to a person's salvation. But they are wong. When I see "commitment" as a pre-condition for salvation, I see ancient Israel's commitment. They told Moses,

You go near and hear all that the LORD our God may say, and tell us all that the LORD our God says to you, and we will hear and do it. (Dt 5:27)

This, my friend, is commitment. And when Moses told God what they said, He confirmed that what they told him was true,

I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They are right in all that they have spoken. (Dt 5:28)

But He also immediately confirmed that their "commitment" was not worth the paper it was written on,

Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever! (Dt 5:29)

He wanted them to have hearts like that, but He knew they did not. That's why He had to give us new hearts through Christ coming to live in us. It's only after salvation that real "commitment" to God occurs.
Very well said!

No one is saying don't commit.. but that it is a separate thing to receiving eternal life/conversion.
receiving eternal Life ?
God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.

But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭2:6-

we should commit to doing Gods Will , in other words doing good and not evil because according to Paul there repentance leads to eternal Life

same thing Jesus said

““Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:28-29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What I’m saying is our commitment needs to be solid and firm . We’ll stumble and fall make mistakes but Jesus is merciful and will help us when we can’t , but when we simply won’t that’s different . Or if we simply reject his word that’s also different from not being able commitment is definately part of salvation

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We should eventually come to this type of a view

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We don’t have to be perfect but Paul explains the right mind of commitment here if someone’s willing to listen to Paul anyways

“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:10-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

that’s commitment brother I don’t really have any more or an argument about it however we should be willing to commit fully to the one who commited to us

“And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Real sincere Commitment seems To be part of it but I digress
