I like what the guy is advising, however not everyone has close friends/mentors, etc. in their life that can really weigh in in those things.
But overall I would say it is definitely important to get a third-party opinion (and gather as many as possible, but from trusted sources) for:
Where there is no counsel, the people fall;​
But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.​

That ties in with some other advice I once heard.

"Think of your three closest friends and ask yourself, would I trust each of them with the key to my front door? If the answer is no, find some better friends. Everybody needs three close friends that can be trusted through anything life throws at you."

Im sure there are many singles are tired of all the dating advice that goes nowhere.

when someone says 'there are plenty of fish in the sea' they dont really know what they are on about I think, not in this world we live in.

Truth be told, I have found faith based dating coaches to have the most profund and practical advise when it comes to dating.
