I just watched a documentary on how smoked salmon is made. It looks yummy and I simply have to try it. Has anyone here tried it?

Does anyone here have ideas for items that compliment a smoked salmon dinner?

Thoughts?

i don't think i've ever had smoked salmon any other way than
placed on top of a bagel smothered with cream cheese. :)

i usually bake salmon fillets with good quality honey, grainy mustard,
worcestershire sauce and chopped walnuts.

it's good...but now i wonder if i'm in a rut? :)

I've never tried smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese (bagels and lox?), I'll have to put that on my "things to try" list.

Yeah, I bake salmon fillets and add lemon juice and tahini at meal time. I have come to love sockeye salmon.

we're really blessed to have a specialty grocery store nearby...
they sell local fruits and veg, in season, and top quality meat and fish...

i like to go on the day i know they're having fresh Alaskan/Pacific sockeye flown in.
now i'm gonna have to try it with tahini! thanks. :)

You might see if that specialty store sells tahini dressing, it's delicious on most fish and makes an excellent addition to salads.

Come to think of it.. I should try making my own hummus using tahini dressing.

you should share the results of your salmon smoking when you have a chance ardchoille

smoked salmon ideas:

- on toast with avocado, pepper flakes, and drizzle olive oil over it. maybe even poach an egg on top.
- over toast with just butter
- salmon tacos: corn tortilla, chopped cilantro or red cabbage, diced avocado, and a dash of lime juice and hot sauce
- or mimic the flavor of a salmon sushi roll by making a chopped salad: smoked salmon, seaweed, avocado, cucumber, toasted sesame seeds
- a little more effort but maybe some kind of salmon and ricotta filled ravioli/shells with a buttery/lemony/garlicy sauce
- stuff a split baked sweet potato with your salmon and cooked greens like chard or watercress
- accompany with a boiled plantain and cooked leafy greens

Oh, I won't be smoking the salmon myself, I don't think I have graduated to that level of expertise yet. However, your ideas sound great! I'll have to try them as soon as I am able.

haha, it happens. maybe salmon savory pancakes then?

I tried my hand at rolling my own sushi over the weekend and failed pretty hard. (That's actually why i recommended the salad above - mostly the same flavor, and difficult to mess up!)

you can also add butter, gorgonzola cheese and cream...
risotto with salmon sounds nice too...
