when i receive Christ as my personal saviour, am i supposed to get baptised in water for me to walk in the newness of life.
Welcome to CC and glad to meet you! You ask an important q and as stated above, we follow Jesus and He got baptized. The baptism signifies the washing away of the sin/carnal nature and emergence into the Holy Spirit. God bless you.

We all have heard the term, Baptism by Fire.

Baptism by fire is a phrase originating from Europe that describes an employee that is learning something the hard way through a challenge or difficulty.

I am curious what others take on this phrase is?
My take is the same as your in this regard.

Water baptism is a good public declaration but its more symbolic and not necessary for salvation.

The term is derived from Scripture:

"I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." Matthew 3:11

John answered all of them: "I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire." Luke 3:16

when the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains from the heart of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire. Isaiah 4:4

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.

The saints.

Isa 66:24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Mar 9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
Mar 9:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

The wicked, and rebellious, not accepting the truth.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

The earth, and heaven, which will pass away, and the saints will be at a new earth, and heaven, where sin has never been, and sin will never be.

All sin must be purged with fire.

The heaven has been tainted by the fallen angels, and the earth has been tainted by people, which all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
