I watched my neighbour grow up and have kids of her own, slowly the world got them.. three brothers, barely into their teenage years, all in prison for low tier shenanigans..
I see the youngest one day, he comes to visit infrequently, mostly with lite religious inquires..
He's explaining his interest in Islam, the Muslims have been at him in prison, to his credit he's slowly citing the five pillars.. trying.. "uhh, good deeds?", he says.. "yeah, I think that one's called zakat", I jibe..
He talks for a while..
Praying X amount of times P/day comes up..
"Oh yeah?", I'm yanking his chain a little about now..
To his credit, he thinks for a moment.. says to me, "well, the 5 times a day actually seems doable.."
Is that something like works again?
We laugh, I tell him to never stop looking for God, at least he seems to believe that much..
What I didn't tell him, is something like this..
Does his "parole officer", or whoever he has to report to daily, want him to 'be good' 1x or 5x or even 50x a day..?
Or does he want him to be good continually? (without ceasing, as the verse says)
Well.. it's a no-brainer, innit
And now Paul comes to mind
I wonder what the lad does now.. hopefully still searching..
God bless you out there

"The Bible says pray without ceasing, whaddaya think about that?"19Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
To his credit, he thinks for a moment.. says to me, "well, the 5 times a day actually seems doable.."
