‘THE WORD’

Reading a little Scripture absently or distractedly from time to time just to feel devoted to God won’t bring the satiation of God’s life to our spirits that He intended for us; but we can actually read a lot of the Bible – even distractedly or absently – for regular extended periods, and begin to be lifted up to God. We can’t lightly continue on in this lifestyle- because the Word of God is meant to change us.

Not only that, but that sense of distraction/absence of understanding of the Scriptures will clear up. Osmosis (taking something in without effort) is just as significant a way of reading it as any number of great men of God found in their reading i.e.; Billy Graham, George Mueller, Dietrich Bonhoeffer etc. I know of a pastor who even listens to it on audio version while he sleeps. Having years of reading the word regularly will provide for a greater capacity, appetite, and will strengthen your spiritual metabolism.

If we dive whole-heartedly into the Bible, we will become more mindful of God and His ways. We’ll go from a worldly way of thinking to a more heavenly paradigm. “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” John 6:68. It’s not about our understanding or even comprehension ability. As the Spirit of His word fills us we will see more of the beauty of Jesus.

Also the presence of God will touch us, and we will become creative outlets for God to speak and act through. Sin will be stifled. We’ll still need to face temptation from time to time; but the enemy can’t endure the ongoing atmosphere that reading the Bible builds in us. Inevitably there will be breakthrough! Every positive benefit we can think of will be bestowed upon us as we persist in this.

We have to believe that the Bible is God’s Holy Word- and desire Him above all other things- if we are to take the reading of His Word seriously. I’m not bragging – I’m just stating God’s faithfulness to use and sustain a hungry dependency on His Word; for about seventeen years I’ve read the bible every three or four months consistently; I know that at least one other among you does this also. Here is a key adjective that will help to release more of the benefits of reading the Scriptures for us: ‘HUNGRILY’! The very nature of the Bible (God’s greatest temporal gift) is that it is His pure grace to us.

As we read on into the Bible, the Holy Spirit is speaking to us continually – whether we sense this or not. This is why we become so fulfilled by persistent time spent in it, and how our hunger for it is cultivated. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter; His Word is the spirit of prophesy, because it is the testimony of Jesus. When we read it we are really reading Him in a sense, and connecting to Him. By doing so we are being touched by Father’s love.

All that’s left, which is the essential follow-up to this necessary daily (and even nightly) reading of the Bible – is just to live naturally out of that infilling. This will increase our intentionality in serving God in His will, plan, and purpose. There is more to life than just reading the Bible; there’s living it.

But only doing the uncommitted sparse readings of the Word will leave us dry – and unable to soak in the wonderful benefits of the pages. Believing in the power of the Word of God indicates a hunger for God Himself. A whole-hearted embrace of the Bible is actually the grace of God embracing us as the Word of Life. “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:” 2 Pet. 1:3 There is a great and abundant level of the glory of God in the Scriptures that we have hardly tapped into!

The Bible is going to be the primary source of life and godliness – I guess I’m prophesying – in this American culture in the times right ahead. We have grossly forsaken God’s Word as a nation, and none of us have taken it seriously enough. “For our God is a consuming fire.” Heb. 12:29. His Word is also a consuming fire.”: and we have been systematically watering it down. The Church is going to experience more and more of Is. 43:2, and Ps. 66:12, right up until Heb. 12:22.

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Isaiah 43:2

“Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.” Psalm 66:12

“But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.” Hebrews 12:22

Many of you are aware of some of the darkness that has been part of my life… even until just before 2025 New Years. Could someone keep reading the Bible consistently through all that if they were not finding it to be a very real light? In a very real sense, the bible saved my life many times. “Thy word is a light unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105. I want to also mention that it will bring us to our knees in repeated opportunity to recommit our lives to Christ at new levels.

Hence, that intense experience of dependency upon it is also why I remain so hungry for it (and for the Lord) to this day. 2025 New Years was not only the start of a life of repentance from partial obedience to Christ, but a fresh chapter of commitment to Him. I have found that this is incrementally refreshed and increased every so often as we try to seek only the Lord, and persist in the reading of His Word. For continuing to read His Word will serve to effectively convict us. This gentle yet firm conviction of His Spirit is the safest place to be… and this will become increasingly true in these changing end-times… as will be the need for the body of Christ to fast.

I intend to put something together to send out regarding that very practical lifestyle soon. The very nature of the Word (see Psalm 1, Jeremiah 17, and Revelation 22) of God is that it is spiritual food and drink. There is currently both a famine and drought concerning real hunger and desire for the Word in the land… in as much as the lifestyle of reading it and promoting the eating and drinking of it is diligently practiced!

“My people perish for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6. This is not talking about fleshly knowledge: but about knowing The Fountain of Living Waters first-hand. A theoretical knowledge of a stream far away is no good if we are dying of thirst in a desert wilderness. And this is a desert wilderness, people; a very plush, calorie filled – entertainment-driven, frantic-paced culture of selfish ambition and adherence to worldly ways. “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.” Is. 5:13. We are a people of dismembered – very dry bones that the Spirit of the Lord must soon move upon. (See Ezekiel 37).

This world and its ways are passing away. We don’t know why we are so weak or even that we are weak, poor, blind, and naked in the sight of the Lord. The Bible is gold tried in the fire of God’s love. It is heavenly food and drink unto a true life of fellowship, healing, and kingdom work with Christ.

Hi Jason glad you are joining us, welcome to CC! That's an in-depth Intro for sure and with me, you're speaking to the choir, lol. I realize too, we can't get enough word in us and take breaks during the day to put on headphones and listen to the gospel Since we 'live by faith' that's crucial to keep studying Him/the Word. God bless you and your endeavors!🙏
