What is modest dress? I mean some people say wearing bikinis swimming is horrible sin. I admit I do wear bikinis are they so bad. Some people are against short skirts but I say as long as the skirt isn't showing everything you are fine. Some people are against showing cleavage. What's wrong with a little cleavage as long as your breast aren't falling out of your top. What is everyone's opinion?

There's so much wrong,are u a christian?
1)is causes the guys to stumble,if they look at u with lust ,they have already commit adultery in God's eyes,come on do u want that to happen honestly
2)if u r looking for a christian man,trust me,ur not going to find one dressed like that
3)are bodies r a temple of God,we don't want to shame God,just for something,stupid like that.so cover up ur breast n wear long skirts,U will make God n the guys happy.
the swimsuit ,wear one piece n a t-shirt over it,I guess,I don't go swimming so i'm guessing ok

Yes, I am a Christian. I am kind of offended by your comment just because of my view you automatically ask me if I am a Christian. I do have a Christian boyfriend. I am not dressing slutty or anything. I mean my bikini isn't skimpy and my shirts aren't as short as you might think.
 
I can't even read people's opinions on things like this anymore because some of them are completely ridiculous. I'm tired of 'christians' focusing too much on the tiny details and not looking at the big picture. So what if someone wears shorts? I know tons of girls who wear frumpy clothes yet sleep around and have no faith in God at all. Guys will have dirty thoughts about a pretty girl no matter what. Whether you're wearing high heels, a one piece bathing suit, or have your hair done a different way. And in my opinion women shouldn't have to change the way they dress so that judgemental 'christians' will approve and so that guys will keep their thoughts clean. That's their problem. As long you aren't dressing like you want something and as long as you respect yourself and and make decisions with God in mind what you wear is the least of yours (and everyone else's) worries. Worry about your relationship with God and dress how you want to dress. Again, as long as you aren't dressing in some extreme fashion to get sexual attention I don't see the issue with wearing a bikini or shorts or a skirt.
 
Hi, I am not a teen, I am the mom of two girls who are just past being teens themselves. I just poked my head in on this thread, cuz I care about teens. I can give you my opinion..if you don't mind it coming from a parental point of view?? I'd say there are decent, pretty clothes out there available to buy and wear, that are modest and can make a girl feel pretty without showing off cleaveage, or more leg than is needed to be shown. I cannot tell what you are wearing as an example by what you are saying/asking, but if you use common sense I am sure you wont go too wrong. Anything that makes you feel uncomfortabley looked at, is prob a big no no. It is also in how you "carry yourself". but you should be covered decently. short skirts...depends on what each of us means by short skirts......shouldnt be a belt!!! ahhaha Low cut tops?? depends on what each thinks is low cut!! Hard sometimes to determine that on the net... but again, use some common sense and you should be fine. I love the way my daughters layer tops....it kinda makes for an interesting look, yet covers everything. I dnt know if anything I just said will help...but I do care..God Bless you....

if it's anything that makes you feel uncomfortably looked at or if you feel uncomfortable BEING looked at then it's probably not appropriate
 
If you can cause ur brother to sin,than I don't think u r dress right.But it's ur call,because u r the only one that will b judged on judgement day.If Jesus was standing in front of u right now,girls or women,what do u think He would say about How u r dressed?Just think about it OK
 
I believe that as with everything this topic will have many points of view. you ask what i think so here it goes.

personally, i am comfortable in jeans and a tank top. i still get that whistle while walking down the street and i look anything but inviting because everything is covered. as a previous post said, dirty thoughts come willingly or unwillingly to anyone christian or more commonly, those who are not. we may not want them but they do occur. the fact that we are women simply makes us easily noticed or desirable (if you will). no amount of coverage will change that, but how we dress helps make it or break it. just remember when you pick out your clothes that how you dress says alot about you. whether this immediate assumption is right or not is up to you. what i got out of princess debs post was that as a christian you want to portray a wholesome good image and short skirts and bikinis dont help your case. dress how you will as i have no room to judge your clothing choice. but as for me i will remain relativly modest in my dress as i want the world to know i respect my body and do immensley care about the image i portray. I am not knocking your dress at all. wear what you will but keep those things in mind.

I have a question.

What is modest dressing? What types of dressing will be considered immodest or modest before God or what does the bible say concerning dressing for women?
 
1 Timothy 2:9
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

so don't be too extravagant with worldly things

but then it also says:



1 Corinthians 6:19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

so one would assume you would respect the body (which is the temple of the Holy Ghost) to a certain extent. i.e no harmful substances, self inflicted harm, bed hopping, etc. but also dressing like a hooker would fall under that, but as I said earlier it's all in your own discretion. For example a bikini or a tank top with shorts isn't disrespecting anyone, but some people on here will disagree with that.

To be honest if Jesus saw me in a bikini it wouldn't bother me because I know Jesus looks at the heart not outside appearances. Just like people automatically think if you wear all bad you are a devil worshipper.

Thanks for replying its nice to hear everyones views. Yeah I understand why you are saying. my idea of a low cut is just showing a little cleavage and a short skirt is like the middle of the thigh no shorter. :)

For me I dress in a way that i feel comfortable and others around me also feel the same. There are times when i see girls wear very low cut shirts and it makes me feel uncomforable. Also i wear a one piece bathing suit because i am very modest. I just think when i wear something " If Jesus came back for his people right now would i be embaressed for him to see me this way." Just respect yourself is my best advice.
 
When we face God as our Judge i think more whether how much we loved Jesus not all the nitty gritty things that worry the church, our closeness with God will convict our personal standards and morals,

The first thing that came to my mind when i read the topic statment w/e you want to call it is when you are in a bikini you are wearing less than what you sleep in infront of a bunch of people and to me that is not an attractive thought as far as christians go.. i wouldnt think christians wouldn't go around in sleeping gear, As far as the dress goes however while clevage attracts attention to the body, a sharp wit and a good sence of humor attract to the more important part and that is the personality

I think you already know the answer to your question. ;) If you have intent, God knows and that is all that matters! You can't please everyone, so focus on what you can live with within yourself. If your intent is good and your using reasonable judgment supported by biblical principals, then there should be no reason why you can't enjoy what God has blessed you with.
 
like if i wear a short skirt/dress i wer leggings or tights with them like a women in my church complained to my mum about what i was wear and my mum was like she is wearing leggings so it not like she is shown off anything
