I agree that our society tends to seek out medication much more than is should, esp. for our children. I think no matter what, there will always be a void in someones life if the do not have Jesus. That relationship is the most important thing, and without that I see many people struggle with anxiety, anger issues, etc. and may try to mask this pain with prescription medication or addictions. It is terrifying what satan's strongholds can do to a person

.
I am one that also tries to look at more natural ways (diet, supplements, etc). to help the body and the issues first, then if all else fails, medication may be needed. I think that tissue/body work is also important for people that have been thru trauma (i.e. car accident, falling down stairs, PTSD, pretty much anything). Muscle tissue and do all kinds of strange things when it's out of whack

.
But, I do believe that medication can be crucial for some. I didn't really know how I felt about medication (specifically in mental health), until I completed a Psych rotation for my clinical work. I spent a lot of time in the acute inpatient psych units where people would be admitted for holds in the locked unit for a certain amount of time. Many of these people where ones that for whatever reason, went their medication, and were unable to function normally. There was a man who, in a manic phase (bipolar disorder) emptied their checking account to buy as many bicycle tires that he could find. There was another lady who the cops brought in because she thought her husband was a CIA agent trying to kill her and her children were not really hers. And the people with schizophrenia, who my heart goes out too. A lady there suffered from auditory hallucinations and was so terrified she spent most of her time curled up in her dryer (yes, the dryer). She told me that was the only place she felt safe. After her medication was stable, she explained to me how she hears these voices exactly how she would hear a person talking to her and can be difficult to know what is real and what is a hallucination. Medication was an absolute necessity for these individuals. So when some people make a blanket statements about there is no real need for medication in mental health, I always think about the people.
Medication or not, Jesus is still key
