I'm having a hard time giving up some bands that I am obsessed with, it is so bad it makes me cry not listening to them, and I failed at not listening to them, because i just listened to one of the bands just a little bit ago.

My Chemical Romance
Green Day
All-American Rejects
Lady Gaga
Ozzy Osbourne
bandslike that r hard for me to give up, my parents dont like me listening to them, and I need prayer to not want to listen to them so bad.

I have the same prob with the twilight series, and it does not help that they r advertising it EVERYWHERE!
 
I have the exact same problem. Until just recently, I listened to all of those bands. What you should do is find some good christian music that you really like and just listen to it nonstop. then, instead of getting all of those unGodly songs stuck in your head, you'll be thinking about all f the good songs. It worked for me! I hope this helped. I'll be praying for you. :)
 
i guess this issue happen to all ppl..maybe mostly to us teens.but hey dont worry theres is plenty of Christian music dat will help yu and yu wuld enjoy too.. by the kinda music or bad i read yu like yu migth wana try:

Why are you trying to stop listening to them? I know you mentioned that your parents don't like you listening to them, but why?

As for practical advice, I don't know, have you tried selling or giving away your records?
 
Just find replacement bands. You don't have to listen to EVERY song in the world, especially since you know a lot of them are trashy ~_o

It doesn't even have to be purely Christian music, either! You can find some stuff that's good and clean and nice to listen to, that doesn't necessarily give a Godly message, but DOESN'T give a bad one. Main examples I can think of are comedy, like Weird Al lol.

As far as some Christian stuff goes, there are plenty of bands out there that would probably fit your taste in music. I'm sure you think "Uuugghhh, PRAISE music, it's soooo repetitive and boring and slow" and stuffs. I feel the same way! I think Casting Crowns is a good band, and (this is from my childhood, so idk) a group called "Geoffe Moore and the Distance" was a cool rock bank to listen to lol.

Just don't go into it with the attitude of "I'm limiting myself," and think of it as "I'm keeping myself from listening to junk, and as a result I'm going to explore as far as I can into more positive music" ~_o
 
Dude I totally know how you feel about wanting to give up certain music but not wanting to at the same time. I've been thinking about this a lot lately actually, and I finally realized that when I'm listening to that kind of music I'm encouraging "my" own desires. I've realized I tend to put God second when it comes to unclean music. I need to put God first. I've realized lately that I'm making music my idol if I put God second... It's sooo hard to stop listening to that kind of music because, at least for me, there are so many GREAT melodies that appeal to the ears, but unfortunately really crappy lyrics/messages.. But yeah what's helped me is the realization that I'm making music my idol and I'm not putting God first, which needs work. BUT thankfully there are some great clean bands/ musicians out there!!! xD lol
 
Wow, a teenage girl who is trying not to read/watch twilight. That's kinda rare.

Get some bluegrass. Yummm. Johnny Cash is good too, and Johnny Horton, Buck Owens, Marty Robbins, The Kingston Trio, The Seekers.... I could keep going but won't.
 
The only secular music I was obsessed with was Eminem. Then I realized how many times he dropped the F-bomb in one song. I went to the folder named Eminem and clicked delete without any problems.
 
I have the same problem...I can't bring myself to delete it off my ipod even though I don't listen to it.
 
i suggest relient k, newsboys, audio adrenaline and superchick for you. as for me, the kinda music i gave up, it's demon hunter and living sacrifice. righteous RAWK OUT!!!
