Judges 10:14

14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!”

I thought to make a list of all the gods that I can think of that we like to chase after when we are depressed/stressed. I dont mean to say they are all evil , because we all need money to survive. We hate to be helpless…and romantic love is good for a marriage and looking and feeling our best is great! etc etc… but it’s too much when we depend only on these things to the extent that we will kill and tear our hair out when we cant live without them or what they do for us. I have my own idols I am working on.

Welcome to CC. :)

If you are serious about dealing with "idols" in your life, the best place to start is not with your own list (or suggestions from others) but with your heavenly Father, Who knows exactly what holds your "worship" other than Him.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

I would add I-dolatry both by atheists who view themselves as God and by Christians who claim to be Pope.
The antidote is humility/teachability.

I'd say the most dangerous idols are often internal, substituting trust in God with trust in ourselves, our abilities, or our own understanding.

The belief that one can achieve salvation or standing before God through personal merit or obedience rather than by Christs atoning work on the cross, is a "deadly" form of idolatry.
When people put their trust in wealth, possessions, or power for security and happiness, they have made them their "god".

The "worst" idolatry is that which is most subtle and sincere—where people, sometimes even in the church, think they are serving God but are actually worshipping a "god" of their own imagination.

Sometimes identifying the objects we desire can help us recognize that which we cultivate which is harmful. Sometimes identifying the type of desire itself can reveal to us what forces we are driven by. We might identify the wealth we seek as idolatry or we might recognize our desire as idolatry. Both object identification and motive identification can be useful

As we gaze internally, we may improve our recognition of that which is of the flesh.

Jas_4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

You made me realise I have been relying on others too much for guidance..
I am so concerned with not following Christ and hurting others that i sometimes don't even know what following Him should look like! I am even at the point of being afraid to just be myself and I think I am being overly paranoid. I have been overly critized in my life and think this is where it stems from because when I asked Heavenly Father he never answered. Which I take as a good enough sign. AND if I ever do get to the point where I am idolising I'm sure now He will let me know without stressing about it 😊

false free will would be my number 1 choice it, it leads to one creating many false idols, and one worshiping himself has an idol, where by he idolises himself, he takes all the glory, leading to people to glorying him, then them people self glorify themselves in many ways, like in radical policies

Dependency on God Father and Son as Won for us to love in the same mercy and truth given us through Son. John 13:34
Not working on this, myself anymore. Now, Trusting God to reveal this to me, what is best for me to accept the no as best for me.
I see what happened in the first Adam
Eve and Adam listened to that age old serpent and ate from that tree. Wanting to be like God, to not need God. Independency happened from them to God to lead and trust God, now having the knowledge of good and bad to decide what is better God or themselves to lead. man usually picks self and others here on earth in charge as well.

This caused them and all after them to be independent and not need God, yet see they need, God for a little time while going through troubles, then forgetting. and doing their own thing, that is usually not well for their soul, at least I found out not mine.
Notice: when a baby is about two, confrontation with authority begins
We are then taught to be Independent of self and others, not seeing the need for God to lead, through each. I see Jeremiah 29:11
God is [presented too many times as a tyrant and that is not the God I now know, after a lifetime of not quitting belief to God loves us all. 1 John 2:1-27

seeing this at first birth in flesh and blood. I, you and all babies at first birth are born dependent on mom. Nine months in the womb
The Baby ate, because mom ate. The baby breathed because mom breathed. The baby comes out from the womb, 100% dependent on mom
And then, I see to be inner-dependent on God Father and Son as won and new life in contentment begins to be content in all things good or bad that happen here, thank you Father
