Ah yes! Petra!
A fave in our household.
I LOVE hearing my kiddos randomly start singing Petra songs
One day things were crazy and chaotic, and no one would settle down. I pulled up a Petra concert on youtube (just to play the continuous music) they were GLUED (unfortunately, it was VERY LOUD in my back room as they sang along and jumped/danced around....... but I'll take that kind of noise/chaos over whining/screaming ANY DAY)
Petra... heh. Back in my day kids listened to it because their parents hated it, but it was Christian so their parents figured it was better than worldly alternatives with the same sound.
"Where'd you get this Petra CD?"
"Grandma bought me it."
*phone rings
"Mom, how COULD you?!"
"It's called payback, dear."
"But the music I drove you nuts with when I was a kid was GOOD music!"

I mostly just know Petra from Washes Whiter Than (1979) to On Fire! (1988). The Back to the Street and This Means War! albums were a bit of a "miss" for me. And haven't heard any of the albums after On Fire.
Petra was life changing for me, The "More power to Ya" Album inspired me to most

That is the ONLY song I recall that they did (ty for confirming). This was when I was 6 but I definitely reacted to that song quite a bit lol.
Idk why it comes back to my memory from time to time but then I think of the word Petra and I get off on what that even means and I think I recall it meaning rock in Greek? I suppose now would be a good time to look it up though

If it has something to say, it doesn't get old. The earliest LeFevres albums are still good for me.
You know what the problem with modern music is? The fact that it all sounds the same. Quite aside from the fact that there are too many cover tunes, derivative artists and formulaic songwriters, not to mention actual aural terrorists in this business, even the honest professionals who are of or strive to be of good character are making hideous records. It's a function of the way the world is, the temper of the times, just the fact that all true art actually imitates life. Even bands that aren't all that bad are that bad.
Chicken and egg........ Satan uses entertainment to lead people further and further away from God. Other entertainers jump on the bandwagon (ho ho) and soon you have even Christian music caught up in worldly music.
Young people are incredibly impressionable. I had a teenage step daughter. She had to wear Stussi clothes, she followed the same band as everyone else and the thought of being different never entered her mind. Celebrities really are role models, whether they like it or not. Mostly they lead people astray along the broad path that leads to destruction.
Well, that's too bad. If you really need art or music or film in your life, you do always have the option of practicing moral aesthetic judgement and trying to find good people who are really trying to communicate with you. Some of them are, you know. in spite of the fact that much entertainment is crude and immoral, there's still the fact that people are couch potatoes and just sit absorbing any old thing. Markets do respond to buyers, you know. there's a give and take to it, or rather, it's all trade, barter and sales, but there are both bull and bear markets.
