I'm sorry, but that's exactly the responses an addict would LOVE to hear. Supportive people may not mean it as such, but an addicts brains hears this as pandering....and addicts LOVE pandering and things that help support their self-loathing and self-centered thinking. And believe it....the brain can trick itself into believe a lot...;p
They cause others to feel guilty with outbursts of anger to make others feel responsible for their actions - after getting angry and stomping off they engage in the addictive behavior and then blame the person/s that "made them angry", never taking responsibility for where they're at in life, how they deal with emotion/situations, and what they do.
That's the life of an addict.
The life of a Christ-follower, on the other hand, is in practicing self-control. And there's only One Spirit that can give that to us. We're going to suffer. And rightly so. We brought this on ourselves - we are the ones that CHOSE to follow the addictive path.
Getting out of it isn't going to be all birthday cake and kool-aid. It sucks to put it bluntly. All you want to do is just crawl into a hole somewhere hide from it.
But Jesus brought us out of holes, and dark places and into His light. But take heart, the same light that exposes our faults is the one that will comfort us. And falling to our knees before God is the answer every time to the things that undo us.
Anyhow. That's just food for thought from one who has been there, and IS there.
EDIT: Also. You're not an ADDICT. You're a human being with a Sin Nature. A sinner. And there's only ONE remedy for that. Ask around on the site, you'll find the answer to that question.
