Well this is a hard question to answer I know but I want to hear your views.
If you have a view, do you have a bible verse to support it?

I know is not a sin to drink but it is to get drunk.
I will be in college soon and I'll be 17 and in Oct ill be going to a trip for vacation and meeting my family.
My family thinks its okay to have a few drinks by the pool. Not to get drunk or anything obviously. Some of my family are christians and they say its alright too if I have a gladd of wine and such.
What is you guys view? Is it okay or no?

The way it runs is submit to God,Parents then Society. If it is breaking God's law it is not okay. I don't think it is breaking that law. Is it breaking your parents will? Nope. Is it breaking society's rule...yes. Don't do it.

hmm i will tell you my honest point of view. In my experience, biblically it isn't a sin to drink, but to get drunk is so you're right on that. However, and this is my experience as i said, one day i prayed to God about this and asked Him to show me what he really thought and i honestly felt a big conviction at drinking beer that isn't Non alcoholic, well it has 0.5 alcohol but when people see it they don't think you're a drunkard due to the fact that it barely has any alcohol. So i decided i won't drink beer that isn't Non alcoholic because of what people think.

HERES THE THING.
Drinking is not a sin.
Corinthians 6:12
"Everything is permissible for me"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"--but I will not be mastered by anything.
Drinking is not a sin. But it is also not beneficial either. Drinking is not a sin, but it can come to a point where it rules your life. Drinking also effects everyone differently, lets say I can drink 4 beers and not get drunk and I live my entire life off this motto. Am I sinning? Well no. But lets say I have a kid and they grow up seeing daddy drink. Daddy can drink 4 beers. But then lets say they have no tolerance for drinking and they try what I did and get drunk. And lets say they can build a addiction off of it fast even though I can't.
Point of the story, who taught them how to drink? Where did they learn it from? WHO WAS THE EXAMPLE? Me. Be warned, this may not be a sin but if someone has a negative effect based off of your influence it is your fault hands down. You take the blame for being the example for it.
You may say well what if I don't show them or tell them? That's being deceitful, were suppose to live open and honest life's.
Drinking may not be a sin but it sure isn't smart. Even if you can handle a lot of drinking, lets say someone sees it and they can't. Your influence caused them to do it.
I would say Drinking is a weight. It holds down a Christians life.
People say Jesus turned water into "wine" so its ok to drink. That is foolish. Wine is the grapes. Jesus would not of gave people intoxicating drinks. When you read that it's more of saying he gave them great grape Juice.
Also the way they make alcoholic drinks now they mix it with other things to PRODUCE more of the intoxicating substance. They make it with the INTENT of people getting drunk.
But I will not tell you it's wrong to drink. I'm not going to make up Bible verses to convince you because there are none. Strong drink is a Sin and being drunk is a sin. In my opinion there is no purpose for a Christian to drink. It makes others look down on us and it could potentially harm others by getting the wrong idea by us doing it.
If you can live with what it could produce and how people would view you then go for it.
This is your choice.

Jesus cam eto save us from legalism. I agree with 1 corithians 6:12. but I say do it if you want. Sounds like a nice controlled atmosphere. We live in freedom. Jesus came to set us free. A few drinks with the family isnt going to hurt. But be careful.

I think you should start drinking as soon as you can. Get used to it and learn to enjoy it, in moderation and in good company.

I'm not going to share any scripture or facts but my testimony or experience with alcohol. After I got baptized I asked that same question and got to the conclusion that it was alright to drink but not get drunk. I started having a few drinks with friends, then the few drinks progressively increased. Because I wanted to drink and I hardly had any Christian friends, I started hanging out with more friends that weren't Christians. I then started finding myself in bars and nightclubs and drinking more than I should. This progressed until I lost all control and neglected God's word. Within a matter of months I was an alcoholic and it took me over a year to overcome and adapt an alcohol free life. I allowed the alcohol to take control and lead me astray and almost destroyed my life. After that experience my decision was to never consume anything with alcohol again and I am enjoying my alcohol free life in Christ. At the end of the day it's your decision but I warn you to be very careful and learn from my mistake. Don't find yourself in the same situation that I was in.

that is my point.
is it really worth it?

I will be attending College in the fall semester. I will not be participating in any drinking. I would rather spend my time in the different Christian clubs (I've already got a few in mind) and study, than make my life any harder. That, and it's not worth it in college. College costs too much as it is.

My personal goal is to never let alcohol touch my lips, except what comes in cough medicine and mouth wash.

I'm an extremist. I can understand never drinking or indulging in drinking. But I don't know why you would drink if not to get drunk. It doesnt taste good. It's just empty calories. But it's the same reason why I don't understand cigarettes. They do nothing for you. They are just bad for you. Atleast with other smoked substances, you get a feeling or a buzz from it. Not that I do that stuff. But I can understand that atleast your getting something from it. But yeah I think it's a waste of alcohol if your not gonna get drunk with it. I'd rather just not drink then. But yeah thats just me.

I beg to differ. I like the taste, so much so that I rarely use mixers with my spirits. I also like the effect alcohol has on me (relaxing, makes me more sociable etc) but I don't like getting drunk.

Again, I think a good tobacco tastes nice, and I enjoy the effect of nicotine. Oh, and drinking and smoking compliment each other like fish and chips and salt and vinegar.

Just a clarification here. Jesus turned the water into wine, not grape juice. It was understood that people weren't going to be getting drunk off it.

Am 16 and have drunk since 15 I dont see anything wrong with it tbh. It would only be bad like sinwise I guess if u like get so drunk u turn violent or something

Proverbs 20

1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler;
whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Proverbs 23:19-21 (New International Version, ©2010)

19 Listen, my son, and be wise,
and set your heart on the right path:
20 Do not join those who drink too much wine
or gorge themselves on meat,
21 for drunkards and gluttons become poor,
and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

Proverbs 23:29-35 (New International Version, ©2010)

29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has strife? Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 Those who linger over wine,
who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.
31 Do not gaze at wine when it is red,
when it sparkles in the cup,
when it goes down smoothly!
32 In the end it bites like a snake
and poisons like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange sights,
and your mind will imagine confusing things.
34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas,
lying on top of the rigging.
35 “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt!
They beat me, but I don’t feel it!
When will I wake up
so I can find another drink?”

Ephesians 5:18 (New International Version, ©2010)

18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,

Plenty of info in the Bible about getting drunk, They all say it's not wise to do so.
But if you really aren't sure, just pray about it and ask God!

ahh theres nothing like a glass of scotch while smoking my pipe good times

Well this is the way I see it, first study the bible about it Just like Doctors study in school or Lawers. You can't just read one or two verses You need to know. Our bodys are given to us by God. He can do whatever he wants to them, think about that! Be glad he has not sent sickness or injury down on you. If you take GOOD care of everything God has given you including your body he will bless you this I know from personal experience. Plus drinking will make you look older. What I mean is if you want to look Great at 40 then drink lots of water an stay far from smoking an drinking. An I think it's wrong that your parents say it's okay for you to drink they are suppose to protect you from that. I also know that People who love there kids keep them from anything that might harm them. You don't waste your time worrying on people or things you dont care about. TIME is very precious. Some verses that might help.
Proverbs 20:1 , Isaiah 51:17, Hosea 7:5, Isaiah 28:1-8, 2 Corinthians 5:4, 1 Corinthians 15:35-44 an 1 Corinthians3:16-17
Another thing I've learned is to accept advice whether good or bad an then I decide is there any truth in that, could this advice help me in any way? Don't ask for the truth or advice unless you believe your mature enough to accept it whether good or bad. I mean your not gonna blow up if you don't like what you hear you take in all in an pray about it an then decide. Always pray first. God loves talking to you and hearing from you!
