This is a thread for all those things you do that you're not sure if anybody else does or if you're just ahead of the game. Or maybe crazy.

One time at my job there was this teenage girl really stressing out because she was stressing out. She was exhausted and stressed to the point that little wavy lines had appeared in her vision. That happens to me too, but I never knew before that it had happened to anybody else. First time it happened to me, I thought maybe I was having a stroke or something. But I got used to it. So I was able to tell her that it's just normal when you are tired and stressed.

Sometimes when somebody says something I will say "what?" when I actually heard what they said fine, I just didn't have a reaction cued up at the time. They repeat themselves and I can deliver the proper reaction the situation requires. Sometimes "what" doesn't mean "I didn't hear you." Sometimes it means, "I need a retake."

Does anybody else ever say "What?" when you heard them perfectly well the first time, just because you needed a second to get the proper reaction ready?

Anybody got anything else you do that you want to know if other people do it too?
"What now?" is my usual response, but I have the common husband affliction known as "ignoring my wife."

I didn't think you were being judgy either. Maybe I should have better grammatical structure to communicate more effectively. Sorry for the confusion. I've been up since 4pm yesterday.
I’m literally wearing prescription glasses and my vision is blurry. That’s how tired I am lol

My husband has three little words that he says to me every single day . The second word begins with the letter L . Those words r.......just leave it . He's so romantic 🙄 .
I have a nasty little trick that I do a lot to people who I think r trying to get a reaction out of me . U know , when someone tells u something in order to provoke a specific response from u ? Something shocking or dramatic , something they r saying because they want to provoke u ? I put on my poker face , take a deep breath and......never react how I think they want me to 🥴 . I hate to feel that someone is trying to manipulate my emotions so if I suspect for one second that they r , I don't let them , they r usually up to no good 🤨 . I have to confess that I take some pleasure in deflating them by staying cool and calm and trotting out some unprovocative glib response 😒 I think I might b evil 😞 .

Oh I dunno... I wouldn't call it evil.

See I do the same thing. I like to give people something they are not expecting. I'll say a cheerful "Good morning!" at 5pm, just to make people double-take.

One time I came home from w*rk and my father was standing in the kitchen. Dad lives up in Kentucky. So quickly does the human brain work that by the time I had walked into the kitchen I had already noted the following facts and made the following surmise:
- Dad has come to visit
- He parked his truck somewhere else because it was not in the driveway
- He did not tell me he was coming
- He wanted to surprise me
- Doggone if I'm going to act surprised
So I acted like it was the most commonplace thing to see him there, and said "Hey dad" in a distracted manner.

I have found a good face to put on it though. You can use this excuse if you want. See, experts say that if you use your brain more then (if you get it) Alzheimer's syndrome will take longer to affect you. Those experts also say that the brain automates the familiar whenever it can, in an effort to streamline life. So if I give people something they don't expect, I am actively counteracting the Alzheimer's they might get when they are old.

Yup. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'm an anti-Alzheimer's agent. ;)

I have to say that the few people I know who ended up getting Alzheimers , were very very clever people who used their brains an awful lot 😬 . Now what r u going to do ? 😜 .

interesting. yes, lot's of people say "what" out of habit. i say it because i'm busy & didn't quite concentrate on what i was doing & listening to him or her. sometimes when some is far away, i say it repeatedly as a joke! but this 1, i like the best; if someone can't speak with proper diction & clearity, i'll say what reputedly. makes them mad sometimes. i knew a guy so messed up on drugs that a speech therapist couldn't understand him!
