There is only one major company (De Berrs) that in effect, has a monopoly on the diamond market. There is no shortage of diamonds whatsoever, but rather, the supply is strictly controlled in a supply and demand market.

I'm pretty sure this applies to everything. Fuel, water, energy, land, air, sunlight... You name it, the evil people who aspire to control the world create artificial shortages to increase the price. Their aim is not profits - they have more than they could ever need or use. Their aim is control. Diamonds is one of the just another item on their resource control list.

(This is also the reason they want international trade, and no country to be the producer of all of its people's needs. If a country produces all the needs of its people, the country becomes much harder to control).

I imagine that when a sniper aims to shoot, he doesn’t adjust the rifle to account for the Earth’s curvature trajectory.
