What made this funny to me was my own reaction...

That looks like a weimaraner, which makes it an even better analogy. That dog is probably smart enough to eventually put the stick down, grab one end and drag it across the bridge, and we also often spend a lot of time and energy trying to drag the things we don't want to let go.
