Most wife beaters are also adulterers, but there are exceptions. In case the monster is "faithful" what would be the biblical basis for divorce?

Why do you ask? Are you going to intervene and take the wife beater out and beat him?

For the cause of Christ

A husband that is 'faithful' in battering his wife is on the same level as a husband that is unfaithful to his wife. Absolute biblical grounds for divorce.

Would you rather she stay and get her head bashed in while she sleeps? :/ I get alot of flack for it, but I will ALWAYS tell a physically abused woman to leave her man. Better to divorce rather than get murdered.. JMO

No, Jesus gives only one reason for divorce. If she feels she and / or her children are unsafe, she doesn’t have to live with him, but she may not divorce him or marry another until death parts them.

I'm glad God is more merciful than I would be if a man were beating my daughter....

Malachi 2:14-16 is talking about treachery in marriage. In verse 16 God says, "I hate divorce, and him who covers his garment with violence." I can't prove it, so I hold it lightly, but I believe this verse is addressing spousal abuse, implying that God hates it as much as He hates divorce.

does anyone know what a vow is?

if a man beats his wife, he has broken his vows

he is a liar, a cheat and not a husband

wife beaters seldom change and will lie till the second coming to get what they want

and I am not being sacrilegious in saying that

leave while you can

Don't understand this kind of hard hearted legalistic answer!

The bible says husbands are to love their wives as the Christ love the church and gave His life for it. Husbands are to love their wives, not beat them. If he's continually beating her, he's broken the marriage covenant.

Regardless of whether he has a certificate of marriage or not, a man who physically harms his wife is not in a Godly marriage, and there in nothing wrong with a civil divorce. If you are the spouse of one who physically harms you, flee now. Seek shelter, and don't look back. God does not expect any Christian to submit to physical abuse.

The Bible says a lot of sins he must not do, yet Christ only lists one of them that may grant divorce. According to this line of thinking, she can divorce him for any sin at all. Sin breaks the spiritual covenant with God, but marriage is a physical covenant- he has to cheat in order to break it. I know, I was in this situation and did much studying on it. You made a vow also to God to be married to this person- which He lets you out of for one reason, and one reason only. Because germ-wise, you have sex with everyone that he does if you have sex with him- that is no longer two people in the marriage.

She doesn’t have to divorce him in order to leave him, she can move out. But she must not marry another until death parts them.

What does the Bible say about being married to a Non Christian? A man who physically harms his spouse is not a Christian.

I am fairly confident that Jesus would not expect a defenseless woman to stay with a man or married to a man that beats her....and where is her dad....If my daughter he would get a beat down and If I was too old or weak to do it would hire someone to clean his clock and give him a dose of his own medicine....I have no use for cowardly faux men who beat and abuse women or children....as a matter of fact....my mercy goes out the window with such losers........

It says to stay in the marriage, but if your spouse chooses to leave, that you are not bound in that circumstance.

This just gives satan more energy, all this rage and hate. His actions shouldn't be condoned, but that shouldn't mean that he should be treated the way he is treating his wife. We are called to be peacemakers, not warmongers.

People are always talking about battered wives, but there's a good number of battered men as well.

Men that has been raised to treat women respectfully, and can't get themselves to stop their wife from physically attacking them, even though they could stop her with their one hand if they were not so mentally abused and worn out by her.

I guess society isn't ready for this knowledge yet.
