I was hoping for a succint explanation of who the beast(s) are pictured in Revelation.

Did you know the book of Daniel is a close companion as other prophecy in many ways with the book of revelation ?
“Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.
And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.
And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear....
After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.”
Daniel 7:2-7
Daniel sees seven heads on four beasts one as a leopard with four heads one as a bear , one as a lion and then sees the final beast with ten horns seven heads and ten horns upon beasts rising from the sea .
“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.”
Revelation 13:1-3 KJV
when Daniel sees them it’s the beginning of the vision the first head ( Nebucahdnezzar ) had just been in power it’s the start of the Visio.
“And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.”
Daniel 12:6-7
when John sees the vision it’s during the reign of the sixth king ( Nero or Titus ) and the seventh is about to rise up
So the seven headed beast John sees consists of five kings who reigned in the past over Jerusalem beginning with Babylon and in johns day was Rome
“And there are seven kings: five are fallen,
and one is,
and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.”
Revelation 17:10 KJV
so johns reference to how long in his vision is near the end of its unfolding concerning the seven heads
“And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:”

But then there’s the other beast whomis the head that appears dead , and yet lives he is the eighth king that we know as the anti christ and has ten nations who will serve him before three are taken away but he is going to arise in the very end Before Christs return
“And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”
Revelation 17:11-14 KJV
the seven headed beast is about Israel’s desolation beginning with Babylon through the Roman Empire and thier harsh rule over Jerusalem and the Jewish people , but this is going to happen worldwide in the end
First beast = Antichrist, man of lawlessness, little horn, the ruler
Second beast = False prophet
The beast as a whole is described as having seven heads, seven crowns and ten horns.
"I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns."
Seven heads = The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. They are also seven kings (Rev.17:9-10)
Ten Horns = The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom (Rev.17:12)
The beast is also an individual:
"But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
In Revelation 12:9 Satan is also portrayed with the same description as the beast of Revelation 13 and 17. Since we know that the seven heads, ten crowns and ten horns represent a succession of seven kings during Johns time. And the ten horns represent ten future kings who will rule concurrently with the beast, then Satan as the dragon is the orchestrator behind all of this.
Then there is the beast who comes up from the Abyss. We know that the antichrist is also referred to as the man of lawlessness and will therefore be an actual human being. But this beast that comes up out of the Abyss is a fallen angel:
"They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer)."
"The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss and go to its destruction."
"The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come."
The beast from the Abyss is the same one who kills the two witnesses:
"Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them."
I believe that the antichrist/man of lawlessness to be an actual human being. When the beast/fallen angel comes up out of the Abyss at the sounding of the 5th trumpet, that he will be the spiritual power behind the antichrist, where by under the beasts power will cause the daily sacrifices and offerings to cease and will set up that abomination in the holy place within the temple.

Dragon (spiritually satan):

- Pagan Roman Empire
- Bears the image of "dragon" on their banner
- After Christ ascends, Rome pursues and persecutes Jews with "great wrath"
- Like a flood, Roman armies hunted Jews and destroyed Jerusalem
- The earth helped the Jews by warring with Roman forces
- Spirit of hatred spreads against anyone (Jew or Gentile) who keeps the commandments & has faith in the Messiah; practicing the faith of the Jews is outlawed.
Beast of the Sea:
- Revelation 13
- Roman emperor gives world-leading authority to Papacy
- (Papal) Holy Roman Empire is formed
- The known world sees Pope as "god on earth" and "god in the flesh"
- Pope installs kings in different lands, outlaws ownership of the bible and changes biblical laws and holidays
- Persecutes Jews & gentile believers of original faith from 538 AD to 1798 AD (1260 years) until Papacy ended.
- Authorized the world to take captive (i.e. enslave) any heretics, leading to worldwide slavery of humans
- Authorized the world to torture and kill heretics
- Was mortally wounded when Papacy ended in 1798
- Was Healed when Papacy was restored in 1929 (but has never reattained world-leading power)
Beast of the Earth:
- Revelation 13
- United States of America, created in a wilderness land in 1776, appears innocent & righteous but official policies and rhetoric are not biblical
- State of Israel, created in a wilderness land in 1948, appears innocent & righteous but official policies and rhetoric are not biblical
- Two horns of power. a Horn represents a kingdom or government in the bible. Two horns of the beast are the USA & Israel
- Assumed world-leading power, the same the Papacy lost
- USA Causes world to celebrate Papacy and follow its policies (Sunday sabbath, gregorian calendar, holidays established by Catholicism)
- Great wonders - firepower (atomic bomb), airplanes, science & technology, medicines come from USA or Israel
- Encourages those on the earth to "copy" the American image (which is someone who obeys Pope's laws).
- Developed the ability to animate (i.e. give life) to the picture (i.e. image) that it can speak; "motion pictures" to project any "image" (idea) to the audience that it wants (Hollywood) so that it can now propagandize through mainstream media and make anyone an "enemy" of the USA or Israel.

The true Beast is the governing and technological System controlled by the Antichrist. When you understand today's modern technology and the progress into quantum technologies, it will be able to control all identifications, social security numbers, your banking, your shopping, how to pay bills, control of the grid to know where you are at all times, medical, and much much more.
To place a person as the Beast makes no sense, because Satan is not All Knowing [Omniscient]. But they will use a SYSTEM that can control and spy on you literally 24/7/365. The Number of the Beast is the number of the System that will control everything.
Look at what is happening in Silicon Valley. They are competing to be the first to get Quantum Technologies up and running because the first one to introduce the Technology will gain the biggest chunk of world wide business infrastructure and then can go from there to control everything else.

I think the beasts refer to men who receive dominion over the earth such as kings like nebucadnezzar he had a dream just before God changes him and made him dwell As a wild beast for seven years
and it suggests that men go have the basest nature re sometimes given a position of power to carry forth Gods judgements pertaining to wrath. When man is given dominion we become like beasts without judgement
Nebucadnezzar was given dominion over all the earth men later saw this dream and Daniel interpreted it for him
“Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.
This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
...It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.
And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king: That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.”
Daniel 4:16-17, 22-
This actually happened to nebucadnezzar king of Babylon in the beginning of the Babylonian exile of the Jews. And then after Babylon’s rule came the media Persia rule , then Greece later which split and became the Roman Empire which was near the end of this succession of dominion over Jerusalem it was never free from 600 bc and then in Jesus day was romes dominion over them the endings of the vision of the seven headed beast that ruled over the ancient world
but in the end another will be given dominion and ten nations with him he will be a re appearing of one of the seven before one of those nations will rise again

The first beast is said in Revelation 17 to be 10 kingdoms within 7 areas of land. The second beast is said to be the false prophet, who will be the leader of that ten kingdom Empire. Both are yet to appear although many types and shadows of them have come and gone throughout history.
As far as I understand, the treaty of 1801 was temporary and only allowed the church to exist under French authority as an almost vassal state (with Church lands confiscated and bishops appointed by the French government). This treaty ended in 1905.
1929 treaty reestablished the independent state of the Papacy and financially compensated them for all the papal states they lost. It was once again a sovereign entity with its own army and territory, but has yet to rise to the level of world-leading power as it once had.
Right 4 beast with seven heads ,
the eight king is one of the original seven , he goes into the pit after the seventh head returns again with the ten horns
“The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

the eight king rises a second time he’s the head that appears to be killed but then lives again
So this guy the eighth king with ten horns

Daniel 7:7-8, 11
Daniels fourth beast ended with times destruction of Jerusalem but then one will rise again and wield the power of ten kingdoms in the end , but theee of those kingdoms will fall before the beast leaving him as the eighth king who would be the man of sin which Paul discusses,
the final ruler of men on earth before Christs kingdom comes and reigns forever like in nebucadnezzar vision in chapter 2 of Daniel
we see that since Eden God gave man dominion and man turned away from him and followed the enemy , later Egypt was the kingdom on earth , later Babylon , later media Persia later Greece and eventually splitting into the Roman Empire , on and on till today America losing its position and China rising Tom power in the world it’s a repetitive thing but one day
this kingdom will be set up over all the earth and the cycle will

“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
Daniel 7:13-14 ( revelation 5) ( revelation 12) ( revelation 21)
in spiritual and naturally driven having the basest instincts
I would say of the world men who love the world and serve it by thier sinful worldly nature
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

so those beasts with seven heads and ten horns serving the world are actually serving
“And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.”

it’s men who serve the devil rather than God with thier dominion and power . Satan has corrupted completely the earth it’s how all that evil not from God in the world got here. Base nature is going to be a worldly nature driven by lust , greed ,pride , ect satans will for us

And daniels interpretation , and then see if the vision of the beasts is a re telling of daniels interpretation on a vision that is then further explained later in Daniel by the angel who comes to give him understanding of all these things
“Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
..Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them:
and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. A
Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.”

that’s another telling of the four beasts , and the ram and goat , and Johns beasts all Of it speaks together to show us what is coming on the world , and that Gods kingdom will prevail in the end over all the kingdoms and rulers of the earth when Christ comes everyone will fall to thier knees in submission and any who war against him will be utterly laid waste not matter how powerful man imagines himself it’s sure that he will return and set up his kingdom forever
like revelation Daniel sees visions that overlap and tell the same story , from a different perspective offering added details what I mean is this vision , offers understanding for the vision of the beasts , and then there’s also more involving another re telling of the same thkngs in the vision of the ram and goat in Daniel that offers more detail
sort of overlap them like transparencies one on another and it makes a clearer picture d offers more understanding of the meaning of the visions then it also offers understanding of the revelation of his yet another overlapping vision offering more revealed detail being near the end of daniels vision , but in the middle of johns which offers more of the end times prophecies regarding the final war and beast with ten horns

I wouldn't mind sharing my understanding of Revelation in a similar way OldHermit did. What's interesting is I must've posted a lot of it already, here and there, and would probably only need to copy those posts. I roughly follow a historicist view of eschatology (though not exactly), as history seems to confirm multiple events predicted.
I believe that the Almighty does nothing unless He first reveals it to His servants (Amos 3:7). I also believe that the Almighty is sovereign in the affairs of man, making nations rise and fall at His will (Job 12:23). Putting these together, it must be the case that the last approx. 2000 years have been given to us in the pages of Revelation and elsewhere.
Using "relative" terms, I can say that I'm most secure about the seals, relatively secure about the trumpets, and less secure about the bowls/vials (as we approach the present day in Revelation's timeline). I believe we're currently in the bowl/vial judgments.
Those are the rath of God and Revelation 11 says the wrath of God comes after the 7th trump and that's the second comibng so, no, we are not in the times of the vials yet.
We are in the 5th trump IMO, just prior to the Great Tribulation of the 6th trump.

If you believe in a historical view and that we are currently in the bowl judgements, you can stop right there! These literal events are going to be the worst events that the world has ever experienced. So much so that by the time the 7th bowl is poured out which completes God's wrath, the majority of the earths population will have been decimated and all human government dismantled (Daniel 2:26-45).
The historical view gets rid of all of the literal events of God's wrath. However, make no mistake, these events will take place just as they are written and after the church has been removed. As an example of these being literal events, we already have the mark of the beast technology where people in Sweden are receiving RFID chips under the skin between the index finger and thumb. They are now using those chips to make purchases with the scan of their hands, such as the purchasing of train tickets. This technology will continue to evolve leading up to the revealing of that antichrist/beast.
Above, you say that we are currently in the bowl judgments, which means that we would have already gone through all of the seals and trumpets. Well, when did a third of the earth and trees get burned up? When did we see that huge mountain (asteroid) hit in one of the oceans killing a third of the creatures in the sea and destroying a third of the ships? When did we see demonic locusts come up out of the Abyss to torment the inhabitants with stings like that of scorpions? The answer is that since these events of wrath are to be taken literally and none of them have taken place, then they are still literal future events. The historical view dilutes the fulfillment of God's coming wrath, which is the purpose of the coming seals, trumpets and bowl judgments.
Those who hold to a historical view have no idea of the severity of what is coming!
