The word Christian appears in the Scripture only three times.
Christian is a word formed not after the Greek, but after the Roman manner denoting attachment to or adherents of Christ.
Also defined as followers of Christ.
Many call themselves Christians who do not follow the Christ of the Scripture nor adhere to His teachings.
Most follow a Christ of their own design.
The true meaning of Christian has been totally corrupted by the religious and non-religious world.
It seems that those who call themselves Christians today can define the word any way they choose and most do so.
Most of those who are called Christians today are far from being a true follower of Christ.
If we are honest, we would all admit that none of us are following Christ totally and worthy to be called a Christian.
I have reached the point that I would rather be called a son of God instead of being called a Christian.
Maybe we should let Christ decide who is a Christian and who is not.

So you're not worthy enough to be called a Christian but you're worthy enough to be called a son of God?

You have expressed some pretty strong feelings, I can appreciate your concerns, I share many.

Something I have learned in dealing with these issues; try to keep "Christians" (the people) separate from "Christianity" (the church). For the most part I have found that people sitting in the pews on Sunday are sincerely trying to follow God to the best of their ability. Many go out and try to honestly witness their faith in the world. There are also minions of "Christians" who have tried the church and found it woeful, opting instead for others forms of worship and study.

That said, we must also acknowledge Yeshua's church spread out across history, often failing, frequently corrupt, but still giving sincere worshipers the opportunity for community service; building hospitals, teaching children, feeding the hungry and defending widows and orphans.

....and I do know how schizophrenic this sounds....

I think that we should proudly wear the title of Christian....
It means "follower of Christ".... and that is what we all CHOOSE to be. That is what makes us "Christian"

Don't back down, or apologise for being what you are... hypocritical self-flagellation is not a good look for a believer, a follower of Jesus Christ....

Precious friend, Great idea! We should "believe The Truth Of His Word"?:

1) Who He Really Is: 160 Reasons Jesus Christ Is TRULY Almighty God
[ ie: Do NOT "let anyone bring you" a 'Different Jesus' ]

2) Which Teachings we follow: I have decided to follow [ The TRUE ] Jesus?

3) Truly Christ, The True God, Knows "who Belong To Him!":

“Nevertheless The Foundation of God Standeth Sure, having This Seal,
The Lord Knoweth them that Are His. And, Let every one that nameth
The Name Of [ The True ] Christ depart from iniquity.”"
Amen.

In a Creation where He knows the end from the beginning, there can be no "luck".
No matter what it is, He already knows!:):coffee::giggle:(y)
blessings :)(y):unsure::coffee:

Christians are Christians for the same reason Epicureans were Epicureans. Epicureans believed Epicurus was right. They believed he had found the best way to live, the only way that made the most sense. So they patterned their lives after his. (Side note: He was wrong, and you should never be an Epicurean. But it's fun to be the modern definition of an epicurean.)

In the same way Christians believe Christ was right, and we believe we should live our lives the same way He lived His. That's the whole reason they started calling us Christians.

How do we tell who is a Christian and who is not? Well... That's not really my business. But if you want to know if YOU are a Christian, then look at how Christ lived and look at how you live, and see if they match up.
