Hi. I am a gringo, according to my friend Angelito (a Filipino). I now live in the Phils. Have been welcomed by so many wonderful Filipinos, most of all my wife. Kumusta ka man all??
 
Haha I need to google what gringo means, anyway... welcome to CC and to the Filipino Forum! haha
 
White, non-Hispanic foreigners, most often from an English-speaking country or a French-speaking country are called gringos. It's actually a non-derogatory word (sort of like the word Pinoy) though some gringos don't know that and take exception to it.

I too have found the Filipino people, with a few notable exceptions lol, to be among the very best people I've met in my travels especially the ones I served with in the military.

I think it just refers to Americans to be honest... - Or was specifically Americans but has came to be applied more generally. (perhaps?)

It was refered to North Americans, particularly those using English as their native tongue (although I KNOW those who use it WILL BE CALLED gringos in the xenophobic system Venezuelan comunism has set in many peoples minds).

Those who are not creole, native Spanish speaking people are viewed as "gringos" in South America. In fact, they regret not being mentioned as "americans", but Latin American instead.
 
Cool. nice history lesson about the word Gringo! I just like how it sounds and the way it is said in many American Western movies
