So, I visited a Baptist church recently, and had a little bit of discussion. I need to work on my tactfulness, since I might of offended someone, but my intent wasn't to do so. Anyways....

Baptists do what Baptists do, I get that, but some people who visit the church, already know John 3:16 and Romans 10:9. Let me try, to make this short here. So, basically what I'm getting at, is sort of a little bit of reasoning.

What's your take on sin and salvation? Are we still sinners when believe in Jesus, or does the law have no effect on us, once we trust in the LORD, or something else? The reason why I ask, because it doesn't make sense, what the Baptist said to me.

He said, once you are saved, you won't keep making the same sinful mistake. So, I said, if we sin the same way twice, we are in jeopardy? He then said, I wasn't taking it serious. Well, if what he said was true, than how many would make it to heaven?!?!

I'm not sure, if I made this clear enough, so I will try to explain it another way.

Do believers in Jesus still sin, if so can we sin the same way, like have an on going practice of sin, or something else? I think heard Creflo Dollar once quoted a scripture that said, the law has no penalty on believers, since we are a new creation. Maybe I miss quoted him, let try to find the scripture.

  • Romans 8:1: "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death".

So, hopefully I explained this clear enough, so people can understand. Are we without sin, once we are in faith in Jesus? If so, if we sin while in faith, are we not saved, or the sin doesn't count, because we are in faith? Basically what I'm getting at, once we are in faith in Jesus, what about sinning while in faith, is that possible? I ask this to hear your opinion on the subject, it does seem a little messy, for I thought the Baptist answer seemed unlearned, but maybe I was thinking not as a child in faith, but more of logical reasoning.

Anyways, lets hear your answers, so to speak. Hopefully, I made this clear.

I don't think CreFlow Dollar$ and Baptist belong in the same post. 😆

Anyhow, I was led to Christ by an independent Baptist. Since then, I found that there are way too many varieties of belief amongst even independent Baptist pastors to give a blanket statement.
The main thing they have in common is the assurance of everlasting Life aka once you are saved, you are always saved.

One more commonality is that after salvation everyone continues to sin. Some however believe that they don't "practice sin." (Misinterpretation of first John.) KJV is correct, not those who claim to be holier than thou.

The epistle of first John chapter one settles this question.

As with all the epistles, they are written in context to believers.....after salvation app.

"If WE say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

I was led to Christ in a Baptist church as well. I also believe that the first epistle of John settles the question whether everyone sins or not, whether before or after salvation. Unconfessed sin over and over again would make me question whether I was ever really saved and would cause me a great deal of reflection and time in prayer. Conclusion: I 100% agree with HealthAndHappiness.

I studied Galatians 3 this morning. It really encouraged me
and was on topic too, because it addressed this issue.
It had a number of basics yet was very profound, dense in clear doctrines.

Glad to meet you Nirgal.
Hope you are blessed too.

1 John ch 1 v 8-10~ If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the Truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His Word is not in us.

Becoming a Christian does not stop sin, it frees us from the compulsive power of sin. We are able to decrease sin as we transition from walking by the flesh to walking by the Spirit. The contrast between Romans 7 (Paul's frustration in trying to keep the law by the power of his flesh) with the freedom of the Spirit in chapter 8 is pretty clear,.

There can be a spectrum of views in Baptist circles.

1 John 1:8 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

1 John 2:1 - My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

SO MUCH FOR SINLESS PERFECTION

Hmm. Seems like a silly thread now, just got hung up why a Baptist told me, once you are in faith, you don't make the same sin twice. Than I thought about what Creflo Dollar said, and thought maybe I'm missing something here. O.k., if we are all sinners here, can I get an Amen? lol

There are those that believe they no longer sin now that they have become a Christian.

I would say a small, but not insignificant number of Christians.
True. No longer sin after becoming a Christian (in contradiction to 1 John 1:8) is mainly what I hear from those folks. On a different Christian forum, I was just recently in a discussion with someone who believes that.

Someone asked him point blank: "Do you claim to be 100% without any sin, like Christ, from moment-to-moment 24/7?" He said YES.

  • Christian Perfection/Entire Sanctification: Some Wesleyan-Holiness denominations, including Methodists, Wesleyans, and Nazarenes, teach that it is possible for a believer to achieve a state of "Christian perfection" or "entire sanctification," where they are able to live a moment without sin.

Who is sinless?
I
Only Father of risen Son. Son the exact representation of Father, gave his physical life for us all. Died once willingly in the flesh. To save us in his resurrection. He did it for us to believe it and be set free to learn new and love all regardless in truth with mercy
I see, I need God, I am no better than anyone else ever. I am saved in God’s love and mercy. I see to take no more thought of it. I can rest
‘Hebrews 4:9-13 belief that continues through anyone still sinning learns new and leaves sin behind them, maybe does it again, maybe not. Yet no matter God by Son took away sin for us to rest and not take being forgiven for granted. To actually appreciate this amazing grace given, able to not ponder over sin anymore. Taking all thought captive to the same obedience as Christ
no more under law to have to do it, is taken out of the way by Son. To now be able to enter the throne of grace and talk to Father freely. Being honest, not hiding anymore. Thank you Lord, I know. Not how, I just trust you will teach me how

Everything you just said, can only get done by God through them in risen Son for them. Now if anyone boasts about this, then these do not know truth that sets people free the gift of Father given by Son.
Luke 18:9-14, to whom gets justified? I see my need. Now, those verses were stated before the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Today is after the fact we are reconciled by Christ in that one time willing death once for us all 2 Cor 5:17-20. All are now forgiven, no one is saved in the death, only reconciled. We, I am saved in the risen life, that is given to me, you as well by God, once anyone believes God raise Son from the dead. God starts the new life given you to be able to do it, and never of self taking any credit in doing it or ever boasting as you got it and others do not as if you are better than others. God does not rejoice in that, thanks
Sealed by God to see over a lifetime of mistakes made, EPH. 1;13
God just loves us all, otherwise that cross would not have ever taken place. Son otherwise, would have just destroyed evil by the natural way of flesh that will not ever please God, to do it that way. Thank you Lord for your mercy

I can only speak for me, in my experience with God loving us all as per 1 Joh 2:1-27 learning to reckon me my first birth of flesh as dead, seeing that in ROMANS 6;1-12
trusting God Father in risen Son, not myself or others as in Phil 3:1-20 talks to me about this truth
