    The Galations incident.

I owe shittim, Scribe, GaryA and all of you others a humble apology. It took me long enough, but I finally got around to buying a King James Bible and dragging out my Strong's Concordance. Going by the original Greek, The words translated as "confidence" and "assurance" in the NIV have more...

    The Galations incident.

Well, just this. It's the sort of thing a Biblical scholar might have said about a word or phrase that had been mistranslated, in his or her opinion. Of course, you made no such claim, and now I feel silly. GaryA, I'm afraid that your experience and mine are quite different: the people that I...

    The Galations incident.

Thank you, Gary. I misunderstood. I thought that you were saying that the original Greek had been mistranslated. Returning to silence.

    The Galations incident.

No, I don't think that Jesus is a liar. He tells the truth always. What I fear is that He had never accepted me: that He didn't have to leave, because H was never with me to begin with. I should remain silent...all that I am doing is making people angry. I'm sorry. :(

GaryA, can you tell me the source of your info? Maybe I can learn from that, too.

    The Galations incident.

True, shittim. I try to practice the fruit of the Holy Spirit in my daily life, with varying degrees of success, and that requires focusing on others. It is pretty much impossible to honestly offer others healing, when you are virtually certain that the Holy Spirit isn't with you. It is hard...

    The Galations incident.

Alright, shittim! John Wimber! I spent a lot of time in a Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Didn't get a lot of help, though: I might as well have been speaking Trobriand Islander to my pastor about my problems.

    The Galations incident.

I pray for Bible translators. If a Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek word means one thing, then why translate it to a word that means something different? Why not use the word or phrase that best conveys the true meaning of the author's intent? Especially since we are talking about the Word of God...

    The Galations incident.

Shittim, could you please unpack this a little? I.e., the Holy Spirit gives confirmation of what? And how does He do that? And how does "it" line up with Galations 5? It's probably my literal mindedness, but I don't understand.

    The Galations incident.

The problem is that I am never sure whether what I "hear" is the Holy Spirit, my own wishful thinking, or the lies of the evil one. I have had my pastor in a Spirit filled church tell me to never trust that "still, small voice".

    The Galations incident.

Just so you don't think that I am ignoring your advice, shittim: I have to find some better sound equipment and some privacy to get the message. For some reason He isn't coming through very well on my computer's sound system, and people are always popping in and out of the office, anyway. My...

    The Galations incident.

In the video, she says to try it again, along with the video, three or four times, if it doesn't work the first time. Yes, I should have thought ahead a bit more when I chose my handle for this site. I am hoping to be forlorn no longer, with God's help, and yours. In that line, I am trying to...

I watched and participated once, but no change that I can detect. I'll try another couple of times and let you know.

    The Galations incident.

I don't know if I have the divine language or not. I have prayed in tongues, but since Mike said his piece, I am never sure whether it is the Holy Spirit, or my own imitation. No noticeable response when I ask in prayer. Aarrgghh!!
  16. Forlorn

    The Galations incident.

True, and thank you, shittim, but how do I do this? People keep giving me goals, but never techniques.
  17. Forlorn

    The Galations incident.

I don't want to forget what has happened in my life, but I do want to see it from God's perspective--as humanly possible, of course :) Can you tell me what to do instead? I am already doing what you have told me to do so far, and have done for years, but it doesn't seem to help.

    The Galations incident.

Hi, soberxp! I care that I do good, not evil I care that I am a blessing, not a curse I care that I tell the truth, including to myself How can I not care what I do to those around me, both the saved and the unsaved, because they are beloved of the Lord. How can I not examine myself, when they...

    The Galations incident.

Sigh! I seem to have trouble either way, Shittim. Whenever I try to help people outside of my work specialization, things go wrong. I spent the first 38 years of my life hearing my mother ask, every time she saw me, "Can't you do anything right?!"

Thank you, friends. Sorry that it has taken me so long to respond. It has been a mental battle over the past few days. If you are still willing to talk to me, then I would like to stay. Please understand that when I question what you folks say, or give my own experience, it isn't out of...
